So yeah, I just realized Ken’s :mk: or :hk: Tastu gets you a free jump in combo of your choice on tag cancel… he’s my new lead in for King.
sux that Ken doesn’t have a reliable way to force standing on crouchers to land the hk.tatsu tho
EDIT: just realized his target combination forces standing. if you have reactions you cab probably use that as hit confirm off jump-in or cross-up to land hk.tatsu
No, his Tatsu forces standing, the first hit that is. You can just poke with cr:mk: and then go to Tatsu on a hit
the cr.mk has to hit hella deep for the hk.tatsu to connect tho so you can’t just poke with it and buffer tatsu if they arent standing

Yeah, I had been using that team, but her launch height isn’t optimal for his follow ups and I couldn’t really work out a good mixup for bringing her in. She is killer with footsies though. Might make a lame ass team with her and Sagat lol.
Currently trying Heihachi and King, and not just because The Mossad Man is a fountain of knowledge lol. Higher chain launch makes normal to knees easy and Heihachi has some nice meterless damage.
I am trying to avoid all SF characters essentially; because I want to keep them in SF4 mode in my head.
I’ve been using a lot of Jin/King lately. Some decent stuff going on there as Jin has easy tag cancels into King’s knee juggles. Will have to test Poison/King as well.
I am actually having some problems with Poison King. Outisde of EX rekka, she has nothing you can switch cancel out of for damage, so at higher level play the team is kind of crippled since you can’t maximize King’s great damage output. Going to try some Julia King and Jin Kong tonight hopefully.
Trying to pick up King in place of Asuka. I run Ogre Asuka right now, trying to go to Ogre King.
Problem… I can’t get Up knee to combo after a tag combo from Ogre. Am I just bad or can anyone else confirm this with me? Other characters I can get the up knee to work, but not Ogre.
Try cr. lp ~ knee ~ st. Hp (or cr.hp) instead. Way more consistent and easier to hit
Thanks. Yeah, I discovered a s.LP works just the same. I hope the damage is still good enough overall compared to straight knees.
This was my biggest worry with Poison/King. Shame that the two characters I was most excited about don’t really gel together, haha.
if you’re using poison to zone, I think Guile works a lot better with King since any cancelled flashkick leads easily into knee cheese

more using her for her intense pressure game, but know that makes me want to try and use guile
ah. if ur looking for pressure then Guile isn’t the guy haha - its all about space control with him, but 400+ dmg off a flashkick cancel is hella sexy.

See sig. Marduk/King. They complement each other well. Yes i know they both have issues with wakeup but Ive played a character with weak wakeup since vanilla sf4 so that doesnt bother me much.
Honestly with rolento’s straight up ridiculous ability to gain meter he’s fantastic with king, i honestly can’t think of a better partner.
The thing with Rolento is that his standard tag in tends to scale combos pretty harshly because you need 3 Rekkas in order tag in the first place.
Not that deep. cr.MK from about half of the poke’s range away into heavy tatsu stands them up. Canceling a move in this game moves you forward so much, tatsu is so much more useful than it was in SSF4. You can also hit confirm from lights into a tatsu combo or SRK combo depending on if they’re standing/crouching. People stand a lot in this game, because of the overheads, and they want to walk away, so you’re going to get a lot of tatsu opportunities. Also, cr.MK xx tatsu is a standard and easy whiff punish.
I’m finding Ken and King with either one on point to be amazing. Tatsu, tag cancel, j.HP, knee, knee, knee st.HP xx powerbomb is such immense damage for 1 meter. If you have all damage+ gems on both Ken and King you only need to land that combo 2 or 3 times to win. I’m also playing Ryu/King, Sim/King, Raven/King and Juri/King. Sim is his worst partner but with his zoning capabilities he only needs King for combos, Sim’s got to be on point with those two. Launch with Sim, st.LP, knee, knee, tag sim back in for st.HP xx flame and go back to playing keep away.
Trying to learn Hwoarang to use him with King too
I completely agree with this, which is why I never bother wasting meter on a switch unless Rolento needs to get out to heal. Even then, it’s still usually better to Alpha Counter first since you’ll at least be doing some damage and can raw tag in safely for the most part. Rolento can already do easy hit confirms from a very far range into 350+ (out of corner) combos. When I want to bring in King, I either go for standing jab ~ fierce x2 or standing forward ~ fierce x 2. Even though the magic series combos have a lot more recovery on block, Rolento can mostly bypass this since the range on his is so ridiculous.
The patriot circle scales your damage so much that it’s not even worth meter to bring in a partner for straight up damage to extend a combo. The main purpose with this team to use meter to switch is if Rolento needs to heal, or King is just much better against the opponents current character.
I don’t really see them as a team that has any good synergy combo/tag wise going on aside from the fact that when you want to bring King in, you can get one of the easiest, high damaging, meterless tag combos with very little effort. Rolento is just very annoying and solid by himself, meant to harrass and control space, while King is the actual mixup and big damage character.
The meter gain has already been mentioned, and Rolento really does feed King’s need for meter.
Call me crazy, but i have been starting off cole into king. I swear that electric bastard builds way too much meter…
