Of course I remember you. I remember damn near everyone who posted there. We still need to meet up sometime if you’re still local (LA). Any chance of you making it to SCR?
Button config isn’t push button
shakes fist
Damn you Japan!
At the least, Button Config is on Character Select. Hopefully there wouldn’t be a need for button check. Hopefully.
Mmm those load times are fucking hot in matches.
I’m really interested in this game guys. It’d be my first KOF. It looks fantastic, but I think I’m going to hold out to hear about the netcode first.
Is there any word from testing and/or SNK on what the netcode will be like? I hear KOF 12’s was HORRENDOUS. That’s pretty much the deciding factor for whether or not I get the game.
Thanks.
It should be better than 12 to say the least. But as far as how good it is, nobody will know until launch. SNKP said at a panel that they did get a hold of GGPO and tried integrating it into the game, but said it didn’t work optimally (mainly latency during HD combos/activation) and that they’re adjusting their netcode so it will work specifically well for KOF XIII. Will this be a derivative of GGPO or a derivative of their inhouse code? We don’t know. We’ll just have to see.
I think SNK knows that the netcode has to be flawless because KoF13 is really kinda like their last grasp to fans of this series and to new fighting game fans. They need to get some of the people who just got into fighting games because of Capcom’s recent flood of fighting games to pay attention to this game.
If this is the same netcode they used’d in 12, and 2k2 UM, both were literally unplayable on XBL.
It better be a retuned version of the existing netcode, or this is a slap in the pass with a bucket or hot piss to people looking forward to this game.
I canceled my pre-order just now, and will wait to see if the netcode is actually good. No one plays KoF near me, so training mode and online will be 95% of my time with the game. If online is complete ass (yet again) I’ll pass till this is 20 bucks or less to dick around on.
This are no news, we all saw that logo at EVO when they were starting the DEMO setups, this was really unnecessary from SRK and SiliconEra. Does anybody know what netcode does NGBC uses?
If you really did, I’d have to say you’re being a sheep right now. Not only are you placing the preorder bonus you get in jeopardy, but you’re basing your preorder purchase on a two paragraph article on siliconera and posted on SRK with no reliable sources. Whereas, there have been multiple sources from IGN and Gamespot with ACTUAL live video of people playing KoF online.
I can understand you have reasonable doubt, but to cancel your preorder based on no-data articles is stupid. Plain and simple.
Dude I’ve owned a KoF games on the Dreamcast and PS1/2. I’ve looked forward to one on a current gen system, and let’s be blunt, 12 was a unmitigated disaster. Anything with that netcode (unless it’s a different one with the same name only) isn’t going to work online. If you think the videos from IGN and Gamespot weren’t filmed with public relations in mind to sell the game, you’re Dream(Cancel)ing.
They claimed that the netcode was entirely redone for this game, which WAS the selling point for some older fans for the series. They even delayed the release till after UMvC3 dropped (which may prove to be another disaster). I know this is a subforum of KoF, but this series has ALWAYS been the red headed step child of the fighting game community (at least in America). I’ve lived in Connecticut, Maine, Virgina, New York and Louisiana. Out of hundreds of people I’ve met locally to play fighters with I’ve run across maybe 5 actual KoF fans. Netcode will make or break this game. There are almost no scenes for KoF outside of NYC and LA. If the netcode succeeds, then maybe the game will flourish, but if it doesn’t work well it’ll be dead outside of niche streams by summer.
And I pre-ordered because I was somewhat excited about a game from the franchise, not because I needed 3.5 hours of KoF songs on my iPod. It’s not like that won’t be available elsewhere.
or it could be ngbc netcode if that used gss
even if it has bad netcode, people who look forward to it can still enjoy it thoroughly if they actually bother to participate in/organize offline scenes. plus, its not like everyone hype for mvc3/sf4 stopped enjoying those games because of the bad netcode, lol
Truth of the matter is that some people did quit and some outright didn’t buy those games because the netcode wasn’t good enough. The worth of netcode carries a lot more that what you seem to be giving it credit for.
That does not mean you completely balk your support of the game based on an article without any sort of basis behind it. The article has nothing aside from the COMPANY who made XII netcode being “confirmed” to do the netcode for XIII. That’s not even confirmed as there’s no sources on either article or that that has any impact on the claim Atlus has made about the netcode.
What I’m saying is you’ve already given up the game for dead just from that. Your resolve is weak in my opinion. How can you change your mind about a product based on an article from someone who hasn’t tried the product? You can say IGN and Gamespot tried the game for PR purposes, but in all honesty, they tried the game period. That’s more than siliconera or SRK can say when making an article that depicts “disappointment amongst fans” and a “letdown for those expecting more” as that article went so far as to say.
In short, you should try the product FIRST before taking anyone’s word for it, especially someone who hasn’t tried it.
running wild says ngbc also uses gss
also iirc damdai helped snk with the netcode, so it is certainly not all negative
I understand that some people legitimately live in areas with no scenes whatsoever, but it amuses me when people act like games without good netcode are worthless to everyone. Additionally, some people conclude “Oh, nobody here wants to play x” when they find no threads or meetups for a certain game in their area, but there are definitely cases when it is a matter of organizing people and meetups because there are 20 other people in the area who end up thinking the same thing until somebody tries to get them together.
I totally agree. I would never give up my pre-order, especially when it comes to the pre-order bonus in which we will probably never see again (well, I cancelled the pre-order of this game at Gamestop from one state only because I’m currently living in another state for this month & had to re-reserve it at another Gamestop from that area).
European release has been rescheduled to 30 november. I’m hating.
I wish I could do something cool like that and make a KoF scene here.
Just a heads up, saw KoF13 @ both a Toys R Us and Best Buy behind glass, all copies had the soundtracks bundled in.
Prolly more like first batch has them, and not just pre-orders.
