King of Fighter 12 is really that good!

How long ago did SF3:NG come out? Over 10 yrs ago…

Even then, KOF XII is more barebones than SF3:NG was.

attacks beats throws, so dont throw unless they commit to blocking

No different animations for short jumps, low movement list putting certain characters to bed competetive wise (like Duo Lon)… just don’t see this game escaping the void of its own fanboyism.

That’s the truth, KOFXII is a good demo of what COULD be. So I applaud them for trying, but this is a strike for the series. A good swing, lots of power and heart put into it, perfect form, but it missed the ball. A strike, but not an out. Thinking of it as anything more will just make me shake my head and worry for your ability to analyze the truth. This game is incomplete and is pretty much a testbed of what could be. It isn’t worthy of gracing Evo or SBO, it’s not going to give SNK the respect it deserves, and if they don’t listen to us for the next game (Ignoring Ignitions request for GGPO netcode like they did this time.) and assume America is brainless and doesn’t know what it’s talking about, then they deserve to fail. I’ll give them this opportunity to right themselves because it’s obvious, OBVIOUS how hard they tried to make this work… but it’s not enough.

SNK isn’t a little five year old kid where you can go “Hey, hey… it’s ok, you tried your best and that’s what counts.” No, it’s not what counts. You need to win, everyone else is trying to in this genre. They need to want more than an arcade port that was already watered down from even its last incarnation. You guys are impressed by the graphics, I get it, but you cannot say that this KOF gameplay is much improved if not even on par with its previous games.

If you do, you really need to get back up on GGPO/2DF and give yourself a fresh reminder, because you’re star struck. I am counting on KOFXII to improve over time, don’t snipe at me saying I’m too dumb to realize this. But don’t gush over a game even you’re willing to say isn’t that good in itself. Be fair in your assessment, unbiased, and you’ll gather much more respect from those of us that understand what is truly happening with this franchise.

Attacks do beat throws but thats because throws can be used in a combo.

Well obviously I know that, but I seem to have a lot more trouble throwing in this game compared to past versions.

It’s because you can’t break throws, blockstun/throw invincibility is short, and there is no alternate guard. Normal throws cannot be comboed into, and comboing into throws is beside the point, since attacking would be the exact opposite of blocking.

No I mean, they BEAT throws. As in, your throw could be 1 frame away from connecting, and your opponent presses a button for a really slow attack, and the attack will beat your throw. It’s like VF. Attacks specifically have a property where during the execution frames, you can’t be thrown. In other KOFs (and basically any other game for that matter), you can be thrown out of the startup of attacks quite easily. It cannot happen in KOF12, only during recovery of attacks can you be thrown.

Ops I meant, Command throws. Not regular throws.

SF3:NG 10 character+1 boss vs KOF12 22 characters…

Hmmm… yeah, KOF12 is way more barebones than SF3:NG.

But it don’t have them b… uh… What did NG have? I guess one boss and endings = better than 11 playable characters.

This post is probably going to make me sound like a raging fanboy, and no matter how many times I preface it with “I love the KoF franchise and think the gameplay in XII looks great”, I’ll probably get called out as a hater. But what the hell, a little negative rep never hurt anybody.

The problem with KoFXII is not the core gameplay. That is FINE. As a stand alone arcade game, it’s alright just the way it is. Yeah, the lack of a boss kinda sucks, but who the fuck really cares, right? The problem is the console release. It blows. And I believe that part of the problem can be directly attributed to the console release being rushed to market.

Let’s take a look at the competition:
SFIV was released in July of last year in arcades. It was released on console in February.
BlazBlue was released in arcades November of last year. It was released on console in late June.
KoFXII was released in arcades in April. It was released on console last month.

See the problem? SNK spent half the development time of their competitors on the console port, and it shows. And hell, the game was DELAYED. It was originally going to be released earlier. The port is rushed, and really, without good reason. SNK would have probably been better off releasing it in the fall or, even better, the winter, when all of the competition was out of the way. If it was released in December, I’d have no reason not to buy it. As it stands, I just got BlazBlue, and Tekken is coming up in a few months. Something’s gotta give, and that something is KoF. And comparing KoFXII to NG is something of a poor comparison for your argument, since NG was kind of a financial failure for Capcom, especially in the States.

Nobody will argue with you that SNK spend a lot of time on the core game of KoFXII. However, possibly due to this, or possibly due to other factors, the console release was rushed and flubbed. It’s a shame, but at the end of the day, most people are going to look at BB, also a beautiful 2D game with a large amount of console content and fantastic netcode, and make comparisons, fair or otherwise. And really, ASW is also a small, if not smaller, company, who made BB from nothing as well. What did they have that SNK didn’t?

Thanks for forgetting to mention the fact that outside of MvC2 and CvS2 those ten years were occupied with barely anything else from the genre. Of course something like 3S is going to last longer in that type of environment.

;p

Ahh, okay. Thanks for clearing that up. That sucks though. Throws used to be a big part of my game.

um all i have to say is look at ign.com gamespots and x-plays review for thi sgame there all low as shit!

and then tehre are giantbomb, gametrailers, and 1ups that don’t rate it super high but don’t rate it as low either, so your point is moot

in actuality, extreme kof fanboy, no one rated it high, and no one rated it higher then blazblue. Blazblue received nooooooo low scores and in ign’s review the reviewer said save your money and get blazblue a much much better game. This post is primarily for fanboys of kof like u, and people who arent skilled enough in games to get good in blazblue then wanna try and call it unbalanced that regardless of what you say your opinions dont mean shit because the rest of the non extreme fanboys know wassup with this game better luck next time snk.(though lol if mai was in it the game would have still have faired better in my opinion. All the reviews made a comment about mai not being in the game as strange and odd or just plain fucked up,)

^But the IGN reviewer for Blazblue admitted he was a “ArkSys fanboy” from the get go so that point isn’t valid
patna’ :nono:

P.S. - Mai can still fuck off :coffee:

ummmmm no he did not, not even once. And the gamespot revewer or fightersgeneration.com reviewers were definitley not fan boys of blazblue and still gave kof12 a deserving low score

I didn’t say they were scored high, i said HIGHER, meaning not gutter scores. Obviously BB is gonna be rated higher since it was a more complete package. Honestly though, how much bitching are you gonna do. Its just the same arguement over and over and over. Time you’re wasting instead of actually playing fighting games that you enjoy.

And really, calling people EXTREME fanboys (cause the word extreme makes it that much worse) is asinine. Last thing you need to do is start name calling. All reviews both that gave positive AND negative scores brought in valid points, but don’t pull the age old trick of focusing on the side that pleases your argument the best. Its like you’re trolling but its not funny…

Srsly, I should make a “KOFXII complaints” Flowchart

There ya go, it’s in the first paragraph pimpin’ :coffee:

I love KoF XII, the gameplay is just right, and it certainly doesn’t lack for on location matches. I still have my Dreamcast hooked up for KoF 98-2002, and this really fares well in comparison to those classics.

The flaws are a problem, with the online needing to be fixed, and the lack of single player content and polish to attract casual players.

For what we have here though, I love it. And oh yes, we do need Mai back, the people are right about that one.

As for the negative reviews, KoF has always been plagued with them, even though the games are great in my opinion. My favorite is King of Fighters '99: Evolution on Dreamcast, and that one got a 6.6 on Gamespot, and is a less popular one with a lot of KoF Fans. Blue Mary is awesome in '99.
