I don’t know if the state of EMP has anything to do with it, but it seems like most of the better known players that were rolling with EMP aren’t seeing the same results they were back when EMP was tighter. Justin hasn’t been as dominant since getting with EG, and in that video TF was talking about how sanford was going to own MvC3, but last I heard he wasn’t a big name in that game (not that I’ve kept up with that game much…). I’ve heard different things like he finally let ‘real life’ take over, he just didn’t like the game (or that he wasn’t doing well at it and used not liking the game as an excuse). Not sure what the real story is there but…idk it seems like either a lot of other people leveled their game up right around the time EMP was crumbling, or maybe there really was some value in what TF provided at the Arc : /
Its not too hard to see that with Sanford. Check out this video.

Clearly Sanford is not the player he was back when he impressed everyone with Cammy at EVO 09. Whether its age or a loss of his passion, he doesn’t seem as much of a factor in the scene currently. I tend to think with Sanford, its his passion. If you go back to his comments on MVC 3, he hates the fact that modern fighting games are neutered for the casual market. The guy just isn’t into MVC 3.
A big problem with many in the fighting game scene is they are too worried about being the next celebrity that gets their 15 seconds of fame on Youtube or getting their own show ala Mike and Gootecks to keep their eyes on the prize which is actually getting results.
hahaha, I never saw that vid. But yeah, sanford is well known for tossing the salt around when he looses lol. That’s been going on even when he was at the top of his game. Honestly Sanford used to be one of my favorite/most entertaining players to watch for me…been beasting even before SF4. I get where he’s coming from on MvC3 (although it’s not like sf4 wasn’t dumbed down too, and he was pretty deep into that)- but whatever the deal is, I really do hope he comes back with the passion he used to have, cuz he definitely has the skill when he puts the work in.
sanford could be ass in every game from here til forever and i will always <3 him for DAT SENTINAL
i was really feelin this movie no homo. in the past i’ve had to betray some friends for money so i really knew where justin was coming from and i feel like he made the best choice. GET DAT CASH NIGGA!!!
lol at wearing a power glove. Anyone who walks wearing that peice of shit and being associated with it is a dumbass.
Oh, you just sound like a peach.
Good watch. Didn’t really know exactly what EMP was about but that helped to kind of clear it up. Pretty delusional if you ask me. Gaming should be a hobby for most people. Personally, thats why I love it so much. If it got to the point where it was a profession of some sort then it would kind of lose its magic.
It’s like music for me - I give anything I record away at no charge. I don’t ever want to have to write a song to pay a bill. This way I can keep absolute control of the quality and frequency of my output. Even when I play shows - outside of free soda, and maybe $10 for gas, I don’t want anything - the club can keep it or give it to the other bands. I’d do it for free anyway. It’s not about being altruistic. It’s entirely the opposite.
Hasn’t Sanford been consistently winning Guard Crush outside of the time when Wolfkrone went? Or are you just talking strictly Marvel? I remember him doing well at Final Round too.
I respect this, but not everyone feels the same way, and I don’t think you /necessarily/ have to sell out to make a living at what you do, even in something artistic like music. It’s just about whether you care more about the money or your artistic integrity…doesn’t mean you can’t have both.
Still, trying to make a living at pro gaming is a lot different in that one respect than music. It’s not like you are going to change the way you play games to appeal to the masses or whatever…sponsored or not, your goal is still just to win.
can’t speak for him, but in my comment I was referring to majors. FR- yeah he did do pretty well. I was speaking partly on marvel and partly on just overall consistency. I think he used to be doing better on a consistent basis than now. One thing I didn’t really consider though is with Justin. He’s not dominating as much at AE, but he is in MvC3. Since he’s dividing time between both games (or maybe practicing MvC3 more than AE?) I guess I might have spoke too soon there.
I meant it from an “enjoying yourself” perspective - not really selling out. Say you’re not in the mood to play for a few days. Now you have to to keep your edge. I wouldn’t want video games to become like that for me.
ah, I get where you’re coming from. idk, for some people it may cause them to burn out, others it might be a motivator. The main reason (some) people want to get sponsored or paid to do what they love is so they have more time to do it. They have more time to dig deeper, learn more, and just do what you love.
But I agree, that may not work for everybody… if having to do something to pay your bills is going to make you sour on that thing, I guess it’s better for it to be a job you don’t care as much about than a hobby you love.
It wouldn’t be “videogames” in it’s entirety, just the one(s) you would compete in. If you were a SF pro, you could play that seriously and play all others for fun…
I want to toss in my 2cents and say that I also enjoyed the movie and was happy to pay $11 for the download to support the gaming community.
That said I think all the drama in the movie could have been avoided if two things would have happened
1.) Triforce would have gotten a job in the first place to pay the rent
2.) Justin would have simply asked/told Triforce ahead of time that he wanted to join EG and leave Empire because he got a better deal
also maybe it’s because I’ve watched both recently, but this movie/documentary reminds me a lot of the movie Social Network. I don’t think the movie mentioned him up and moving to the West Coast to pursue his dream though.
but the drama is what it’s all about
they even took a page out of the ‘reality tv show’ book and tried to add drama through editing random shots of people made to look like reactions to what’s going on. Like the part where they are playing the LO3 episode with the announcement of Justin getting picked up by EG. They edit it to look like TF and Sanford were actually listening/reacting to it (timing the annoucement with sanford looking back at TF like he’s surprised, the close-ups of TFs face etc). When if you look at it, those shots were from the same day as a scene earlier in the movie that was like a year or more before Justin ever left EMP. TF and Sanford are both wearing exact same outfits and everything lol.
So basically you’re saying that the way the documentary itself tells the story is shady?
lol the irony
There was a QA about the movie on youtube but I couldn’t hear a single thing they said, so I can’t tell either way.

I enjoyed the documentary. Thank you for taking the time to make one. Anything about the community is awesome!

I really need to ask Triforce his comment of “my father told me… a sucker only does a 9-5…”. Yet the story he tells his dad was doing a nine to five yet still struggled… an HE himself is/HAD TO do 9-5 in order to succeed. I don’t know if he was talking to be talking to just make ‘statements’ for the camera but that was not a good look.

I know triforce… not like that though for about 10 years via tournaments. Yet the documentary made him to really live up the things that are said in this community about him…He is a leech, bad business practices, and gives false hope. Again… its a documentary and you take things with a grain of salt as you watch but damn this really portrayed that of the guy and it could be some back lash from that.
edit: oh i cracked up seeing myself at the end at seasons beatings… did NOT know you were filming.
When you read that do you really not see all the grammar mistakes? Do you not care?
It makes it very hard to understand your post when you have to stop and reread a sentence 4 times.
I mean, it’s a message board. We’re communicating with our words.
You’d imagine people would take a little more time with their posts.
Maybe I’m just one of those people.…
Yeah. You are.
