Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

Watching it on the Evo floor I thought the damage needed to be turned up.

I would have played it but I’m terrible on Japanese style sticks and I’m sure they weren’t going to let me use my American style one.

Actually there’s two versions iirc. One where he says Ultra three times, the other where he just says Ultra Combo(the youtube says the “ultra combo” version was for the american/japanese markets, but I’m pretty sure on my snes cart he says Ultra x3)

The matches still work in traditional KI style where you have 2 life bars instead of rounds. Meaning the matches will go by quickly just on the premise that you can’t recharge your health for depleting the opponent’s life bar like in other round based fighters. You’re forced to hold on to your lead and deplete their life bar first or be significantly down momentum wise in the match.

On top of that, people forget that this is combo centric game like Marvel where you have to sit down and play with the combo system to maximize damage. It’s obvious from the Evo build that the main reason the matches are taking long is the same reason they were taking long during beta Marvel 3 and Vanilla SFxT. People doing shitty combos. Killer Instinct specific issues like people not understanding the anti combo break strats to the level they will a year from now also. Once everyone gets the combo system down I guarantee people are gonna be like “oh wow this game does have damage”.

Regarding glacius. I am glad they changed his design. In KI he was just “Blue Dude”, and then Cinder was “Red Dude”. This at least looks like something.

I don’t get it, why does it sound like a Jack in the Box is being cranked during Glacius’s ultra?

Yeah especially since not a lot of combos were finished properly which is very important in scoring damage. On the Madcatz stream, I regularly saw 20-30% combos, and easily 40-50% from a lockout, counter breaker, or with Shadow Meter. You build meter fast in this game too so it seems you will regularly have access to high damage provided you get a good read.

Reference for the old “UUUULLLLTRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”

Sounds more like Christmas to me.

Where does this game stand storywise? Is it a continuation from KI: Gold or a complete remake(I’m assuming so since Cinder is still alive in this game)

it seems like from sabrewulf that it is a continuation

Some interesting notes about the video.

  • From 6:30 seconds in, Ken Lobb starts to explain how he is using the payment method he is using for the game. Basically says that you can either purchase the game in full/lump sum and you will receive every download that comes after without additional charge. Wording was “how do I build a fighting game where the community can just go buy, they get the whole game and obviously more characters release over time”. Then also suggests that to get newer people into the game, they are allowing people to play the game as Jago against anyone else regardless of what they paid for for free. Essentially like allowing someone who wants to try SFIV for the first time to just walk in and use Ryu and travel around the world gaining experience for free. Then they can purchase the whole game or specific characters depending on their budget or general love for the game.

The whole game with more characters releasing over time is very similar to Tekken Tag Tournament 2 or the fighting games of old where characters were time released or secret unlocked. You’re not paying anything extra since you bought the whole game, you just get them as a bonus to you fully committing to the game.

  • Suggests that more people played fighting games back in the early 90s on their Genesis or SNES than they do now. Which makes sense since there weren’t as many genres that were really big then and fighting games were regularly killer apps. Wants to use this method to get things back to where they were where everyone is playing a fighting game in some way.

  • Specifically uses the wording “not a free to play game”. Feels the wording does not fit with what they are trying to do with the game since there are multiple ways to purchase the game. For those that just want to pay a one time fee and get everything like they did with Killer Instinct 1 or 2, that option is there also. The idea is to make it easy for the people that are just curious to ease their way into the fighting game community with as little money commitment as possible.

We don’t know if Cinder is Cinder from KI, or time travel brought him back, or anything really. But it was already confirmed this is a sequel to KI2. Numbering has nothing to do with it.

I remember hearing that storywise its a sequel.Jago has lost focus after the second tournament and literally started ripping apart a temple to create his new outfit. His outfit is basically all artifacts from the temple. Sabrewulf found some magical power that allowed him to get his arms back. Which is why his wrists glow during the fight. Glacius’ ship takes off during ultra combos to suggest he is trying to leave the planet.

I like how everybody is getting their own stage. It will help give the characters identity like the older games. Lot of the newer Capcom fighters have gotten away from the character specific stage thing and I think it plays a big part in the uniquess and identity it gives to the characters.

That’s probably why its taking a while to release characters because every character release is also a new stage/music release.

That or its a third Glacius.

The Glacius from KI1 and KI2 weren’t the same character?

Nope. I think they were brothers or something. All I know is that they are different members of the same race.

Given its an alien in a suit… It could be anyone from that race really.
