Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

@lightskintwin Lol. Thing is you have to consider that Skullgirls is an indie game, while KI is supposed to be a major release.

Yeah I guess this structure is what eventually would have happened with Skullgirls if it took off.

If I have to cave in to Nickel and Dime Instinct, I’m just going to buy the Combo Breaker 19.99 pack and pray content comes out quickly enough without making me pay 100 bucks for something I could have paid 60 bucks for on a diisc.

Well, this IS only Round One. With a Round 2 to come and possibly Rounds 3 & 4, this definitely isn’t the end. And honestly, this was what about I expected. I thought they’d release a new character each month, and counting the months since its announcement at E3, we would’ve had 7 for the launch. We’re one short, but I’m chalking it up to DH wanting to make sure everything is balanced and nothing is broken. As for the original KI being included, I heard Ken is lobbying (no pun intended) to have online play included in the emulator.

It is a little weird, but I still like this development style. With Fighting Games you have the ability to do this since the majority mode used is online. Would’ve liked to see Story Mode ready at launch, but if they substitute that with an Arcade Mode once all 8 are done, I’m good.

Now to find Thunder clips…

It still is a major release…

just with 6 characters at launch. LOL

@Sir_Flawless

Yah this is looking too expensive right now for how little we’re getting compared to a disc title.

The only way they can justify doing it this way is to make sure that almost every character is viable. If it ends up being a tier dominated tournament game like most other major fighters, it would be pointless

You only have MS to blame for the game being rushed. I’m pretty sure they made it clear to DH that they want it ready for launch. Not much you can do I’m afraid. Anyway I’m not surprised by this roster count since I’ve been following closely, and there was no indication that there would be a good chunk at launch.

As far as the model goes, It would be stupid not to have a season pass for future content. Ideally you could buy the Combo edition for 20, get the season pass for upcoming characters, and then selectively buy costumes which could roughly add up to the price of ultra edition. You just won’t have Arcade KI.

Yeah I’m looking to spend no more than 60 dollars on this game. If they wanna nickel and dime into a 100+ dollar game, I’m gonna stick with a couple packs and say fuck it after that.

Let’s keep it real, the $20 dollar package for 8 characters in a next gen fighting game with big budget production values is pretty reasonable.

So judging by these prices, how much would it equal to in the UK? If Ultra Edition was £20 then damn I would be fine with buying future content if it came to a total of £20 more. I guess this way, KI is being the face of Xbox One by realising that with buying the rather expensive console; they wish to ensure multiple ways of getting this game to which ever suits the consumer’s financial and personal needs. Still a season pass might be a good deal if it was £20 or how much dollars it is over there thus being a wise choice in purchase and being equal to what a full game would cost whilst guaranteeing that the user can’t feel ripped off or unsatisfied. Nifty business.

If I have enough money to do it at the time, I’m only going to get the Ultra edition just because of the extra character content. I could really care less about the original KI game, especially if you can’t even play it online. They need to release more info on how exactly the future content will be priced.

Thus Ken speaks about the roster and upcoming fighters…whoops wrong link.http://m.uk.ign.com/videos/2013/08/20/killer-instinct-lobb-on-future-characters-gamescom-2013

The game changer I think being missed in all this is the fact you get Jago for free and can play as long as you want online, and the fact If I have no interest in any other characters except my favorite I can buy them for $5 dollars and be good.

There’s a possibility I may just buy B.Orchid who’s my favorite and my main I used in the older versions and never feel the need to buy anything else.

So I’ll end up having Jago and B.Orchid along with the full online experience for only $5 dollars.

Talk about $5 dollars well spent.

Double post

Or just buy Glacius for 5 and play him for the rest of the game’s life lol.

Nah I’m too hardcore for that. I want the extra characters so I can record and test stuff with them in training mode. Plus just be able to use them as secondaries when I’m tired of beating people up with Glacius.

People who played in the arcade wouldn’t have too much of a problem with this since if the online is good, you can just get practice against the characters you haven’t bought through regular online play.

So far it seems like all of the value is being given to the casuals or those that just want to play one character. Which could pay off in the long run if they market it correctly.

The small character roster is what’s going to make or break this game. With Skullgirls, the small roster and lack of production money broke Skullgirls. Hopefully the extra money Microsoft has in the bank will make the small roster work for KI.

Can only hope this can do what Skullgirls struggled to do.

Pricing model is garbage. I’m not seeing the being it worth it for neither of the two prices. The way it is now being an early adapter won’t be wise. I’ll wait until everything is available.

Yeah they let you pay the way you want…except for the way I wanted. Gonna take some time getting used to this digital stuff.

Although the original Blazblue and P4A had pretty small rosters also and those games did pretty alright sales and tourney wise. Oh well…I like the idea of Killer Instinct too much. Outside of the pricing they’re doing a lot of stuff that too few fighting games ar doing. Gonna go in.

I dunno, I’m perfectly fine with the pricing model. I look at it like MvC3 -> UMvC3, where people groaned and complained about an 8 month turn around for a new one and that they were playing a beta essentially, where in my eyes, I got to play the game early.

So to ‘me’, I’m fine buying the whole thing, knowing that ‘M$ wants this as a launch title’, because I’m just getting to play the game early.

On the flipside, I’m perfectly content with the number of characters if there is a good balance to it. Having 6 characters with every other person you fight being Jago is going to be annoying, and it’s going to be worse if he or one other character become the strongest. I’m not going to complain about 8 characters as a baseline either, its not like SF4 hit the ground with 20+ characters. I just know that Jago is going to make me throw up from sheer volume, and their won’t be random “Fuerte, Vega, Gen, etc” people with an 8 man roster.

I can’t lie though…I want the 6th to be Fulgore. I need teleport combos for stylin purposes.
