Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

This sucks…no true full game of KI for years.

Looks like KI is over before it started.

Blazblue and P4A had decent amount of single player content. I know most of us won’t touch that aspect of the game but it does add value to the overall package. Double Helix hasn’t mentioned a story mode as far as I know.

Accessory Packs for Characters wasn’t explained but I had an idea of what it is.

Interesting point they made in one of the new videos, if you ‘drop’ a combo the white damage that you did not get because you did not perform an ender does not just disappear any more, now it slowly recharges so that if you hit them again before it refills you will do more damage.

The guy seemed to suggest that you might want to purposefully drop your own combos so that you could take advantage of that. Quite interesting I think.

So much for the “season pass” that we were all told would be one of the options - where you pay 1 flat fee and get everything after for free.

Also this “ki edition xbox live” card - I wonder what version of KI it comes with.

Can’t say that this information gets me excited at all. 6 characters, no story mode, and 2 characters a few months later. I gotta say this is definitely the most disappointing KI news they’ve given us since KI was announced at E3.

If you listened to the new video, Ken says that they might use Shadow Jago as the boss for their ‘story mode’. This also defines Shadow Jago as one of the characters.

No it doesn’t. Because shadow jago is only playable (afaik) if you preorder the Xbox live day one kit.

He doesn’t count towards the 8.

Not true. As the game will never be “complete”. It’s constantly evolving. Like Rock Band.

I mean a definite character altogether and not just a costume.

Shadow Jago I feel is just going to be a very dark skinned jago with some accessories moved around and probably different frame data on the moves and maybe a different instinct mode but nothing too drastic.

Even still no matter how slight pallet swap characters are still a different character

Shadow Jago’s accessory pack should include a hoodie and skittles.

I don’t know, this ‘try before you buy’ focused appeal for a fighting game doesn’t really seem like it’ll work if it wasn’t a launch title for the X1. That’s because lots of purchases by people are impulse buys and with digital purchases it might reduce that specific potential. (Similar to why people buy the next CoD, makes “breaking sales” yet you see tons of copies in a few weeks? It’s because they impulse bought it usually.)

I think that the character that they allowed people to play for free (Jago) was not really wise and hopefully they can consider a rotation plan. That’s like if you offered people to play as Ken for free in Vanilla SF4, people wouldn’t really need to purchase anything out of it. As microtransactions are dominating right now, I say it’s worth the experiment. I guess internally I wished this experiment was on another game instead of the well anticipated KI reboot.

I’m going to play the free-to-play content first, see if I get the feel for it. Then I’ll watch some videos on each character and see which one I like the most and purchase it. Depending on the financial resources I’ll get the $20 pack. Not a huge fan of asthetics and I just know I’ll play the KI Arcade for a day and not much after that, so I’m not interested in the bigger pack.

I’m trying to figure out if it’s jago + 6 other fighters + 2 DLC atm

I don’t get all the bitching about the roster size. They are only asking $20, for that roster, that’s 1/3 the price of a full game. And on top of that, its pretty much free, as I bet most people will get/renew their XBL.

Another note, roster size isn’t really that important. It’s variety. So far, there’s alot of variety in the first 4 characters. Most games with larger rosters tend to have lots of characters that are just different interpretations of the same idea, rather than a new idea (see SF4, where half the cast is a shoto variation). About the only games I can think of that managed to have a decent size roster and not just rehash the same character over and over are BlazBlue and Guilty Gear. And even then they wound up with a few very similar characters.

It is safe to say the Soul Cal series too. Sure they have descendants (Taki to Natsu) but never a similar style in the same game. Well with SC2 you did have Cassandra and Sophitia but anyhow; the only similiraties are between the series and not in one. Thats about it though apart from KI. Tekken has so many Mishima guys and ducktailed hairstylists plus two bears. Mortal Kombat has many ninjas, they are obv different now but just a palette swap.

Yep KI is the best.

The value were getting isn’t worth it’s price. All we know it’s just 6 characters. What other worthwhile content is there? Double Helix hasn’t talked about any single player content. They haven’t said anything about their being a mode to teach people the game like Tekken Tag 2 and Skullgirls did. This is beyond a bare bones package here. This more like paying for early access than an actual complete game.

8 characters (2 more by February), and story mode by february.

I’m not super happy that the game isn’t done at launch, but the value is there.

Besides, 90% of what people play in a fighting game is the multiplayer anyways. Capcom games have embarrassing single player options, and awful training options, but that is far from making them a bad package.

Also, for almost everyone… its free. As in $0.

I’m not going to judge the package on content that doesn’t exist yet. Plans can always change (Microsoft does love to 180). I would have less issue with this if it was promoted as an early access as that’s what clearly what it is. Nothing they presented constitutes a full ledge release.

I mention those modes as it adds value to the product. Going by the posts over at Double Helix forum, there are a lot of people that do care about this game’s narrative for whatever reason. Besides, we need them to bring in the casuals.

I suppose that’s a fair point. And yeah, it does feel like access to a beta (that’s the part that irks me).

But again, for most people its free. And for everyone else, its at most $20 for the full game, or as little as $5 if you just want your favorite character.

I assume most people on this site will go for the $20 version.

An unrelated note. Konami has already started making a tekken game in this format, and Capcom has stated that this is the future. So… love it or hate it, I think this is how these things will work… at least for a while.

Note - the reason I’m not talking about the $40 version is because that seems to just be fluff content. Great if you want it, but not really the core game.

$40 version boned itself by not having online with the arcade port of the original game.

Well, they said they are gonna try to include it but… shrug

I would venture a guess the original KI will probably be a standalone game too.

Still, KI will be free for me, so I really can’t argue to much with the value.
