I love this as it gives me flashbacks to why I loved the music in 3S so much. The different mixes between rounds added to the tension and atmosphere of the game.
The announcer is full of cheese. Anyway there’s still some more characters to go so maybe you’ll get some more of that Mozzarella. There’s always the possibility of classic skins also.
It’ll be interesting to see where they go with the music in this game. I sat down and had a good listen to all the tracks from KI 1 and some from KI2. They had some funky music in those games lol. I think one of the composers posted a small sample of the updated character select theme from KI and it sounded mean. If I can find the link I’ll post it up.
The dynamic music is awesome. Also, if you watched the MadCatz stream, the music after a match dynamically moves to how the users change from hovering over “Rematch”, “Character Select”, and “Main Menu”…it’s really awesome.
@gomugomu, yeah I loved the funky and hard electric stuff in KI. Glacius’ theme in the first game and Fulgore’s theme in the 2nd are my fav. You have to be deaf to not like Cinder’s thene also.
I’m assuming the music will be more theatrical/dynamic as per course with games like SFIV and such. I did like the guitar riffs I heard in the video though. Long s they throw one real funky house/hip hop track in there ill be good.
Cinder’s guitar solo put some hair on my chest, god damn. I understand that Sabrewulf’s theme in KI2 is classic because when I heard it I was like “OOOOOH so that’s where that was from” but I think his original theme is a lot better. We’ll perhaps get some nice beats out of TJ Combo or Orchid.
I wasn’t aware MikeZ was working on this game, that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.
I’m very happy to see the developer make some changes to the KI formula, such as the introduction of a strong space control style (new Glacius).
I do hope they add some original characters at some point, and not just bring back all the oldies.
Also, the dynamic music, while nothing totally new, does seem to be more dynamic then we’ve seen in games like SF4 or Injustice. So that comparison is a little disingenuous.
Yea Mike Z is working on the game and he’s not too happy the direction there going with this and that’s not a good sign and after that terrible Glacius reveal i see what he mean
I thought the Glacius reveal was good. But then again, I don’t want the game to be like old KI.
When I read what MikeZ said, alot of it just sounded like the normal stuff for an in development game. At this point we can only really evaluate potential. So I’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt, until the game is done. They don’t have that much time though.
That said, they do seem to be listening, so… we’ll see what changes. We’ve already seen to pretty different builds of the game.
Mike Z gave his reasons and most of us heard them. Truth is that while i do respect mike z I feel a lot of the" problems" he pointed out are present in his very own skullgirls…
What I find funny though is the number of people on SRK who are willing to make declarative absolutes about a game and how it will be played at high level and what will be viable ALL BASED OFF BETA FOOTAGE. It’s like people on here forget the amount of time it takes for games to develop…remember when people thought the only way a character was good in SF4 is if they have a good ultra.
People noticed the top tiers in that game all had something in common…easy confirms to ultras(except akuma). People assumed that was the primary reason they were top tier without realizing it was a combination of the good tools they had in conjunction with the easy ultras. People didn’t even know about vortexes and unblockables to the extent they do now.
Glacius reveal was bauss. Love the new look and moves. He ended up exactly like I thought he would. Fulgore was my favorite before, but after seeing the new Glacius he looks a lot more sophisticated and alien like than the old burly one.
Its obvious the game won’t live up to all of the expectations of MikeZ. No new version of a game ever does. It does seem to capture the spirit of KI while adding its own flair and most the players at Evo seemed pretty pleased with the game. I didn’t get a chance to play it because the line for the game was stupid long, but I enjoyed watching others play while I’m there. It looks fun to play and will be up there with Marvel as games that people will ask when it’s coming on stream.
For what little its worth, I’ve never seen a development crew working so hard on a FG outside of SkullGirls.
I know Double Helix doesn’t have the best reputation, and it doesn’t mean the final game will be good. But their hearts seem to be in the right place, and they seem to be working their asses off.
A good amount of credible people are helping these guys work on the game, so if it flops in tournaments or general sales the blame partly goes to the fighting game community for not ensuring they came out with a strong product for tournament and casual players. It’s not like they’re just making the game on their own with no one from old Killer Instinct games or tourney players helping them.
People bash every other game developer so it’s not like it really makes a difference what company name is behind the development. They all get shit these days.
The reputation counts though, developers with good histories make better games than those without.
To give them the benefit of the doubt, their previous projects were not exactly the type of projects that would produce amazing results in the first place.
So… we’ll see. They said they want to reform the studio into more than just one that does contracted licensed projects. They are working on the new Strider game too… and that looks good.
I’ve never even heard of the company until now (since I don’t play anything but fighting games). Unless they’re like 5 + years of history with bad games like some Eidos shit (which I think is a publisher any way), I say they’re just coming into form now.
