Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

This thread is about KI and KI only. If I see any further anti-something-that-is-not-specifically-KI comments/derails from you, expect to be banned for a couple days.

If you have specific problems with MSFT, PM me: I solve problems for them when I can. If you’re just generally hateful, go stink up the PS thread. Thanks!

Got the KI Pin edition: I’ll be interested in seeing how they handle that. And of course how incredibly bad I am at KI. :\

^ Cool vid, but that dancing was uncalled for.

I know this isn’t directly KI related… but this demo is pretty incredible:

I can’t wait to use that video editing stuff for Fighting Game videos.

Wow, Ve, that’s absolutely applicable to KI! I think there may be too many videos to wade through when people get their hands on this…and I’m not complaining at all! Even just showing a friend what a new character is all about (or new game, even) is as simple as a quick record session, complete with your own narration and editing. Having all of this in one box is actually a lot cooler than I initially thought.

You all can follow me. I’ll put up shorter stuff now that I know how easy it is.

The kinda stuff that doesn’t warrant a full youtube video.

It’s been confirmed from the last stream that there will be no spectator mode day one. Which I’m assuming means that like Vanilla Marvel 3, there will be lobbies/endless mode but no way to spectate the matches. There’s still twitchtv to watch one player if they are consistently winning matches and the recording function, but yeah they’re going to have to get spectator mode up and running pretty quick. They won’t be able to wait a year to get spectator mode in and not have people flip like Skullgirls. I think Skullgirls went a whole year without even having lobbies.

I think they said lobbies would be there.

There seemed to be some confusing about the question though. Probably stemming from the fact that every game has their own word for lobbies or and specator mode.

Lobbies are extremely important, and you should be able to watch while you wait. That’s like, a feature that has been standard for 6 years.

I personally never said anything about lobbies and what I read on DH didn’t say anything about lobbies either.

If we’re going to get into semantics though, then yeah what I’m speaking about specifically refers to the fact that you will have lobbies/endless match on launch, but there will be no spectator mode on launch. Which is exactly like Vanilla Marvel 3.

I’m not surprised by this since the launch of this game is looking EXTREMELY reminiscent to the launch of Skullgirls (took a year to get lobbies or spectator for SG). Concept/project type game that will eventually turn into a full fledged title. Basically stuff that is standard in most fighting games will be out at launch to build up the core game and give us things at launch that 60 dollar titles still lack. So eventually we get a game that has a lot of features + a bunch of new ones that other fighting games have lacked for years.

I think I remember them saying lobbies. But in a kinda confused way.

Yeah I doubt the game is going to release without lobbies. That’s not very hard to implement and it allows people to fight multiple others without having to make another room. That plus twitch and recorded videos will keep people’s appetites wet until spectating hits.

It was the same with spectator mode.

They said no spectator mode… but then they gave a few alternatives… which lead me to believe that they didn’t understand what the person meant be spectator mode…

So, I wouldn’t be sure about any of that yet.

A less important note, but I noticed the rain on Thunder’s stage is particle based. Meaning, the drops of rain actually hit the characters, its not just a effect layer. You can see this really well in the win poses. If someone’s arm is over their leg, the rain hits the arm and NOT the leg. Also, because of the wind, the rain only really hits the one side of the character.

Really nice to see that.

Free to play, 20 for the whole game? Can’t beat that. Plus, it’s Killer Instinct.

Calling the game whole is a bit too generous at this juncture. This needs a story mode, a proper boss and about 20 or so playable characters.

Well by whole game I mean all of season 1. In the traditional 60 dollar game sense, no it’s not a whole game. Same way Skullgirls is. They’re both very alike as far as the new age “ecosystem” fighting game is concerned.

It’s an ongoing game that may potentially have new content for years so we’ll never know when we will get everything. There’s almost zero fighting games that are giving you frame data, hit boxes, rollback netcode or a tutorial mode and this game is giving it to you out the gate even if you spend 0 dollars. Be great to see what happens after a couple years once they get all of the other standard 60 dollar game content.

20? Now you’re just being ridiculous.

I’m going to be one salty bitch if the netcode at launch is bad, AND the online mode is like MvC3. I am somewhat skeptical/worried about it in general though because the game is 2 weeks away and we literally know nothing about online and they haven’t shown anything about it.
