Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

Tekken 3 has one of the best OST’s in that series…i’d go out on a limb and say it’s better than alot of older KOF themes…though I can never go wrong with a Esaka mix.

But this new KI has some godlike music…it’s going to set a new bar imo.

First thing I thought of when I saw this game:

You can’t scare ME off with fullscreen hitsparks!!!

Yeah after you play Marvel 3 enough, you can deal with all of the flashing shit in the world. Persona has a lot of flashing shit too. Never played Persona and it looked kinda slow to me, but at least shit was flashing and it had a whole kinda Initial D flair to it.

I also love Eddie’s Theme from T3. Also, the music in Under Night is also very well done.

What happened to the music in capcom games?

Capcom has some of the most classic iconic beats in fighting games but I swear…it’s like they gave 0 fucks in SF4,marvel and SFXT.

KOF,Tekken and KI always had the best music IMO…and yes I do also think MK had some good tracks as well even in MK9.

SF EX and 3rd Strike sucked out all the life of good OST’s then Marvel 2 took the rest…ever since then mostly everything else Capcom has made was either a remix, mediocre, or shit…take your pick…but I must confess that do like a few new themes in UMVC3.

Yeah a few of the UMVC3 themes aren’t bad, but they just don’t have that flair and epicness that the old themes did. The dynamic music is alright, but is totally destroyed by the dynamic music in KI3.

I would agree on some old themes, but to be honest I think alot of that flair was because old VS games had alot of catchy and sporadic themes such as the character select themes from like X-Men VS SF or MVC1, or the awesome remixes they used for those games…alot of the music was designed to go with the arcade-y nature of those games and which is why we remember them as such, UMVC3 doesn’t really have that feel at all nor does it try to replicate that feel either…for better or worse I would guess.

But ya I agree KI’s Dynamic Music is something else…and it’s only going to get crazier from here.

Do you think KI’s dynamic music will become a standard?..or should I ask it this way…would you want this to be the standard for dynamic music in fighters from this point?

Yeah, sure. It makes things more engaging and you could even use the music to assess a situation in a tournament. Plus, they said the old game music will be unlockable.

I think there was 1 song in SFXT I didn’t mind but again…next to 3s or even CVS2 I feel like the stuff is low tier.

Hey for people who have played this game, any clue on how the footsie/spacing game works like?

Does it have a SF flow or no?

Man that KI music bought a tear to my eye.

that mp3 rip doesn’t do the sound cloud link justice.

I’m 100% buying the soundtrack for this game when it drops.

I agree that SF’s music is alright, but Capcom’s Marvel themes have always been where Capcom is on fire.

Sentinel, Dr.Doom, Captain America

No Slum No. 5? I like KOF but the music has never drawn me in.

How KI is like SF:
-Six Button Fighting Game

-Two Button Throws

-Footsies do exist

How KI is not like SF:

DP’s are not huge damage, the reversal window seems to be smaller and they don’t usually lead to large damage unlike DP -> FADC ->Whatever.

Special moves alone do not do large damage.

Footsies don’t seem to be as important in KI. However, maximizing damage is.

The flow is like 3S from what Max and others were saying. You want to be attacking because when you are being hit, you have a mixup and mind game that is going on. This isn’t like most other fighting games where you have to think after the combo is done (Is he going to cross me up, is going for a throw, etc) the real mind and mixup game is in the combo. In combos, you can use a combo breaker to break an opponent’s combo. However, to execute a Combo Breaker, in the middle of a combo press the punch and kick buttons equivalent in strength to the attack your opponent is using. (primagames). However, your opponent can do a seemingly easy string, and then bait your combo breaker with a counter combo breaker which will lead to big damage. You can also do the wrong breaker and get locked out, meaning you can’t do anything but watch for 4 seconds while the opponent attacks you. So then you have to ask yourself “Should I break this if I think its a bait for a counter combo breaker?” and then you have to go from there. These mindgames are hard and favor the attacker mostly as all they have to do is mix up their attack strings and patterns while the man on the defensive has to do all of the thinking and guessing. This isn’t getting into character specific systems like Jago’s Around the World combo system, Sabrewulf’s special doubles and Glacius’s unblockable potential.

I can see this game being great for stream viewers at high level as people will have to do different things in order to stay competitive.

the original sf2 tracks, some alpha tracks and sf3rd tracks is what keep capcom above water when it comes to FG music.

sakura’s theme in SF4 is pretty epic too.

Outside of that the VS games they kill for some reason. Cap’s and Sent’s theme is beyond epic.

Holy shit this music sounds so fucking good! The character select music was at the end gave me goosebumps!! That’s what I’ve been waiting to hear… I need more.

Tekken 3’s music was amazing, some of the best if not the best I’ve ever heard in a fighter released so far. Tekken consistently drops strong tracks anyway.

I really like old MK’s stuff as well.

hopefully capcom will take note…

not just on music but being more hands on with the community and giving us what we want out of a game.

Well Capcom is streaming more at events, they made Combofiend Community organizer, they just had the 25th Anniversary tournament, they are releasing a new balance patch because we want one, they released 3S Online, CVS2 Online(Kind of), VS Online, MVC2 and MVC:O, even Jojo’s got online. They got SF into the WCG’s and are having another Capcom tournament I think plus they send Ono and the guy whose name starts with an A to a ton of events.

To be honest, while Capcom could do more, I think people also just like to hate on them because they are Capcom. Capcom does a lot for the community, many of the problems in the FGC come not from developer support but from structural problems (Not many people, Not organized, We are probably the poorest Competitve Gaming players, etc.)

Listened to that KI teaser. Ofhebdhfkwbfhfhebrjdnd, my mind got blown.

Aside from that, I think Capcom still make great music. Though it was some what crap in SF 4, Balrogs theme is still epic and Guile remains iconic. There were some great songs in SF4 but most of it wasn’t like it was.

Songs I particularly liked:
Crumbling Laboratory (Though I have realised Capcom seem to be milking it with guitar riffs)
China Alley
The results tune
The Temple stage
Sakura
Vega
Bison
Juri
Blanka
Yang
Evil Ryu
Cammy
Dudley and loads more. But my favourites must be Mad Gear Hideout round 1 and th online theme from SfXT.

From UMVC3: Cap, Doom, Jill, Nemesis (DAT DUBSTEP), Thor, Phoenix Wright, Vergil, Mission Select, Nova (sounds like Sonic), Hawkeye, Ghost Rider, Akuma, Chun Li, Haggar, Taskmaster and more. Tbh the themes actually suited the characters so for that I can give credit. Eg Deadpool, like WTF?

But yeah, KI remains da bomb. Still got the whole track on my MP3 and rocking it out like it’s 1993 though I wasn’t even born then.

That music is fucking godlike. This might be the first fighting game I play where I actually listen to the game’s OST instead of streaming my own music from the computer. I remember when the game was first announced and there was this video called Jago Combo Montage, I played that thing over and over just to hear the theme. It looks like Mick has changed it up a bit, but nonetheless, its still amazing. I can’t wait to see what he does for Fulgore’s theme. Fulgore’s theme in KI 2 was this great metal tune.
