Also yeah After watching a bit of that pax video, its like I’ve been trying to spread around… The music and sound effects are KEY in this game its really a big deal, maybe more so than any other fighter outside of streetfighter.
I really hope they refine and focus on sound effects and the over all bass in the game, I’d love to get a bunch of fools together and crank the surround sound up and just rock out to KI and casually beating the crap out of people. I can’t remember the last time I even thought about doing something like that with a fighter, most time the 1st thing that hits my head is “hit training mode and grind”
I kinda wish I could go back to being a total scrub with very minimum knowledge of fighters for week one of release, just to enjoy casual KI with friends.
Yeah so far they’re doing way better with the reveals than Capcom has in a while. The only thing that’s slipped is audio recording from PAX where someone recorded the theme they’re using for the character select screen (right now they’re just using the title theme). Other than that they’ve kept shit pretty tight and enticing. Since Gamescom isn’t for another almost month they’re obviously going to keep up waiting until then and keep the suspense high.
I do like that this game is bringing fighting games back to the entertainment sense. SFIV tried to do that, but it just didn’t really capture all of the powerful, in your face stuff that the older fighting games really brought. Everything from the graphics to the gameplay they pulled a lot of punches for in SFIV and in Killer Instinct it looks like they aren’t pulling any.
Capcom decided to do away with their original idea of using the ink markings to trail the characters as they’re fighting in battle. They pretty much restricted it to only the focus attack moves. In Killer Instinct, it’s flashy and in your face with particle effects everywhere and Glacius’ ice body breaking all over the screen during all of his moves. The music fits together and changes with about everything you do which is something you only normally expect from like an FPS. The gameplay and systems are powerful and allow for extremes on both offense and defense while not being quite as kusoge as the old KI games were.
Something that a friend mentioned to me is that, for stage demos and trade shows and promotional appearances of brand new in-development games, it’s apparently not uncommon for developers to slightly increase their game’s running speed (by adding frameskipping) and slightly lower its damage output (by scaling everything down), just for that build.
I don’t know how true this actually is, but it sounds plausible enough to me. Remember that these kinds of exhibitions and public showings are essentially active marketing.
I think at least a bit of the flash has to do with it being a launch game. They really have to do stuff that’s obviously next gen.
Personally, I’m excited that a fighter is a launch game for next gen at all. That’s a big deal and has the potential to get alot of people involved in FGs.
Frankly, I don’t care…I’m already predicting that Jago is going to be the most annoying f#ck out there simply due to 1) being the Ryu clone and 2) Being the ‘free’ character.
So EVERYONE is going to be playing him early on. I’m just waiting for Flow-Chart Jago to rear it’s head. With so many people playing him as well, he’s going to have the most tech going into ‘majors’ (assuming KI makes that cut).
I usually try to only play people on my friends list so as long as the netcode is good and they have a lobby system, I probably won’t be fighting too many Jago clones outside of ranked. He looks a lot less annoying to fight against than Vanilla SFIV Ryu was since you don’t have to worry about a random dragon punch cancelled into one move taking off 40 to 50 percent of your life. They can’t do any “oh my dragon punch got blocked so lemme do this” stuff other than the instinct cancels I think also.
Also consider the streaming capabilities of the console. It’s a ready to go streaming setup. Thus will make it easier for people to share tech and strategies. Which should help develop all characters…
Look at the bright side, the Jago match up will probably one of the most understood match ups early on. :). But with the way things are going, special moves by themselves don’t seem to do much damage in KI, so getting hit by a DP won’t be the end of of the world.
The thing about Vanilla though - with Ryu it wasn’t even just scrub friendly ‘trade to ultra’ - on high level he was damn good, but it wasn’t because of true tiering (IMO) - it was more - as the most popular character, he had the most hours logged, and thus (especially as a balanced character) more and more tech was found for him (and other shotos) early on, compared to the other characters (who did eventually catch-up)…
So I’m expecting Jago to have even MORE disproportional hours logged than any other character - the plus being everyone will get trained to know his patterns and combos - so breaking him will be easier, but all the same, similar to how scrub kens make it harder to fight good kens if you fight too many of them, the same will happen for Jago.
And yes I’m bitching early, I just wish they gave out at least 2-3 free characters…Jago is a Marquee character who looks like a shoto clone conceptually - so he would always be popular, but to make him the freebie character…I already see the writing on the wall.

The problem though…meh wrong word…maybe ‘truth of the matter’ is that streaming won’t really make a big difference. You can watch all the footage in the world, its the community analysis and breakdowns that actually build things up. ESPECIALLY with fast playing games…there are so many little things I randomly read about UMvC3 that I’ve seen on screen, but didn’t know what actually happend, and read it wrong - “Why didn’t he block that” - to find out it was unblockable or something, or the meta-game is just so many fuggin moves ahead with characters like Vergil running around that you can get hit from him just walking up to you as the fear of mixups is so friggin over the top.
Will it make it easier to show stuff, yeah…but lets be real with ourselves. 95% of the videos posted for KI3 will be combo videos. Not tournament footage. Not even ‘ladder’ matches.
I remember when I had KI on SNES way back when I was a kid, and I remember that Jago was easily my favorite just because he looks so much like a ninja. He will probably be the favorite among the game when it comes to character design only just because of that feature alone. Whether or not he becomes the god tier character, IDK. I predict he will be mid-top/top tier though, however, just because of his moveset. I hope Fulgore is even more godlike than he was in KI 2 though, that would be pretty nice.
I know that each stage plays a different kind of music any time an ultra is being done, but if I remember correctly, did I hear one of the people working on the game say that each character will have their own different kind of tune play on each stage? Like for Jago, will there be a different tune for each stage that could be easily discernable from a different character? Also, I’m pretty sure they will bring back No Mercies/Ultimate combos. I think it would be nice if each character had their own music play during those. They would all be stereotypical of course. For Jago, it would be some type of East Asian Temple music, for Chief Thunder it would be something Native American and etc… It would all have to have a dark feel to it of course, because somebody is about to die
Do not cheese on the motions… sorry but I actually enjoyed the way they enforced Jago’s windkick in 1 and fulgores mixes in it as well. Spinal had directional changes like dhalsim so i just hope they don’t cheese it out an make it dumb
tweak the combo breaker system. looks masher friendly (so far) and until i get my hands on it i dont think its button specific.
-Chief Thunder BETTER be able to control his phoenix
Another Jago treat… if they have his “life glitch” ensure we cant break it. an re-add the double windkick or the b-f motion if windkick is stopped. AND he should have is instant wind kick after fireball.
-Glacius looks funny but ensure he is like he was in 2
-Give me Kim Wu… please… cause i enjoyed doing stupid stuff with her
-The stages actually meant something in part 1… i hope this transfers over
ill have more as I think. i will see I can see some stupid things that can be done simply wit the things ive seen so fare. Especially with those fancy high def explosion of fireballs but again i have to get my hands on it.
Basically with the music every character has their own beat and it changes to fit each stage. Like if Jago does his ultra on Glacius’ stage, it will have a light, almost xmas like tone to signify he is doing his ultra in a snowy tundra.
No mercies aren’t planned for the game currently, but they said they may add them if the demand is high enough.
No… no i havent paid any attention to it cause its not done. I will speak with filthy rich at Summer Jam to get a lil more insight-- direct insight. I said it looks masher friendly cause the EVO footage I believe we witnessed it was combo breaker heavy thus giving me a feeling that to do a combo breaker you can mash out if its uppercut required. in KI 1 you had to know the combo string that was occurring
sorry if my post came off dumb…i dont go off bits and pieces much i need a final product or direct access (hense my until i get my hands on it).
let me go further. In KI 1… jago can throw a fireball an go right into his windkick. in certain stages if timed right he can literally float with/before his fireball. punishing him from that was hard and if you did punish he still had the back forward motion startup on his windkick to start up again. It was tweaked in part 2 slightly. I would love to see that return.
Stages… in KI 1 you had a endless stage… cinders and orchid stage gave distance. Sabrewolf stage made it hard for aggressive combat. Thunders stage could change the dynamics if someone got in a corner. I would love to see things like that return.
Ill just say this… i played 1 and 2 pretty hard… an still play when available as mentioned in the previous thread and this one. So im just hoping they do some of the things that made the game fun, and not try to go over the top.
