I was wondering about this because it seems like every Decapre player I see, even the good ones, use a lot of gimmicks. I personally don’t use too many, still trying to learn her first, as I like to first learn and play people
straight up with fundamentals and footsies if I can, no matter the character. But it seems her design type is geared towards gimmicks I suppose. The Japanese player Bikoan’s whole style seems to try and confuse people
as much as he can with gimmicks and scramble fakes, but it sometimes backfires on him. He is still pretty good and is entertaining to watch though on Topanga TV when he plays Tokido, Mago, etc when they do their
daily tournaments.
Is there any players(Japanese especially or otherwise)that you guys think are solid right now or is your favorite at playing the character and that you think other Decapre players can learn from?
Heh…well. Didn’t want to offend anyone since they rep the character now and again at tournaments. Don’t know if they are serious about her though. I guess she’s more of a pocket character for them.
I remember seeing earlier someone demoing a safe jump for Decap after a hard knockdown, but beating 3F reversals is still tricky I guess. After a knockdown, just empty jumping isn’t something I’ve been incorporating enough, not to mention empty jumps into lows. I need to really try them, thanks. I wanna learn and talk about more than just hands, haha. Being new to Decapre means I have a lot more to learn.
You can safe jump 3 frame dps it just has to be far enough to if they do the whiff hitting you. As for shenanigans with cross up breaks its safe as he’ll on meaty and that’s when I use it. A lot has to do with people not really dealing with it yet also and it can be tricky. Non meaty break is - 9 and meaty break is as good as - 1 depending on timing. As for KnuckleDu, his decapre is pretty damn good.
Yeah, that makes sense. I tried to explain the meaty thing to a friend recently. Cuz like, I didn’t know about it when I first started, then I did it once or twice and he tried to punish with some really unsafe stuff. Also, I found when I was messing around in training yesterday that you can hit U2 after a super low to ground ex Spiral Arrow, like one that just barely taps toes. Doubt that has much application, but it looked really cool, haha.
this fuckin character ftw.
reminder, some of us will never compete at a tournament (unless you send me a private chopper) and are strictly online warriors. we exist, we go to work, come home and want to beat the shit out of people, but we do appreciate your perfectionism in the pro arena.
me personally, i love her aesthetics, and her options for deception. imho, between defense and bnb/setups, LK and HK scramble should be pumpfaked at least once a round. Since I host 5 round lobbies, i like to build a little distrust early.
What’s wrong with Nuckledu? He’s a fundamentally strong player with good execution. KBrad is genuinely good but I don’t think Decapre fits his style and his hands execution sucks, hence why he doesn’t play her. I don’t think there is anyone atm. I remember Damdai looked impressive early on and Hoodaman had looked good in a few tourneys. I know a couple good JP players like Uryo play her on the side also but there isn’t much footage
Nuckledu is great as CriminalUpper said. Only thing he missing is setups. I’d say watch Nuckledu videos on how to generally play decapre, and practice Veserius’s setups he posted on other threads. If Ves would post some more match/tech vids I’d say to just watch him.
Yeah was gonna mention, his knowledge of setups and such was lacking. Someone just link him to Ves’ youtube. Oh and forgot you also did really good at Absolute Battle lol. That Snake Eyez match was rough but you gave him a good game at least, the Gief matchup eludes the fuck out of me
I don’t really play as much as I should be anymore. Hearthstone/social vortex too stronk.
I’ll post vids when I’m satisfied with my level of play. I watched a long set I played 2 weeks ago and i was disgusted by how sloppy i was even though I won.
not taking anything away from du as a player, he’s definitely really great and experienced and I’d hope to surpass him one day. his decapre is just very “you don’t know the match up” decapre and it’s really annoying how most people don’t prepare to fight that. not to mention unoptimal on both oki and damage/stun. I really want to see more people work harder to unlock her potential more, not continue to gimmick it up and be happy with themselves if it’s working at the moment.
and du´s decapre is fine, I dont like some decissions he makes mainly because he gets away with so many unsafe stuff… but idk maybe is the way to play decapre
I found a hard-to-blockable against Ryu with Decapre. After her slide a whiff Cr.Hp into her Roundhouse scramble dive kick. Almost all of his reversals whiff, apart from Ex tatsu, also autocorrect DP’s seem to whiff, the only reversal i found that beats it, is a delayed jab shoryu. It only works on crouching so far. But the timing can be mixed up to accommodate her actual crossup dive-kick, which evades all reversals apart from a non-delayed jab shoryu. The only way to actually guard it crouching is by just guarding. Another ways to seemingly avoid the unblockable are; by low-profiling on wakeup, wakeup St.Hp, and wakeup dash forward.
Forgive if this seems rushed, also this is my first time posting on the forums. I’ll try and post a video when i have more time.
