Kick your sneakers off and relax~ Guy General Discussion Thread

Lack of knowledge of how to play the Character correctly. People always think of this one attribute, relentless rushdown and he has much more to offer than just that.

I think of Guy as a ‘Mind Games’ character. Because alot of his moves are unsafe, you have to be good at predicting your opponents every major move in order to gain momentum. I also look at Guy as a teacher. Using Run Stop and Elbow Drop to teach your opponent to do something or not to do something in order to gain a punish…

I went to my local tournament called bar battles host: big E. I finally got to play k brad again but it was 1-2, bodied a few other players lost to steve aka insane 1-2 he had akuma but i made him play blanka. I got a few cheers for my effort I wanted to use stick by still not that good yet I had to use a xbox pad (I don’t own xbox) only had grab st.mp/mk grab lk tetsu as tools, ultra n bushin combo wouldn’t come out SMH.

no clue if this is known but i found a safe jump off ultra in the corner. after ultra animation, crouch for 1 frame (hold down until you see guy crouch and then hold up forward) and jump in with mk. just tested on fei long, going through further characters now

edit: works on the usual 4+ frame suspects including cammy but not sagat

I found an interesting technique with Guy thats especially useful against opponents in the corner. The technique is holding Down+Forword instead of always holding down+back for alternative AA’s. This only works at a distance and works better in the corner. It will enable you to do TK Izuna Drop, Ninja Sickle AA, Ultra 1 AA, Super Combo AA and you can still use crMp as an AA. Down+Forword AA’s are risky but generally nets you more damage. Down+Back AA’s are generally safer but will net you slightly lesser damage. I was able to land a Ninja Sickle AA against a good Ryu today just using this technique. Putting your opponent in the corner usually makes them want to jump out, so I just distance myself by using Pokes and wait for the jump.

List of Japanese players set to attend EVO 2013 Kiyomatsu — Super Street Fighter 4

Pretty sure R was going to go as well Papatiwawa, but I definitely have my money on Kiyo going far this time around, believe he got Top 64 last year at least.

get hype.

whats up guy players?!
This forum still alive?
My friend R (papatiwawa) will attend to EVO this year, hoping him the best!
I wanted to come, but no money/time.
Maybe next year!
Gonna slowly come back to playing, and try to step up my game!

Not a lot of folks like the new lay out (I’m one of them)

I got my vote on Kiyo and R making it far.

So I clicked into a Cross Counter video…

…where they think Marq Teddy is the best Guy player ever.

If that’s the best they think of Guy, I think Kiyo, and even R will surprise a lot of people.

Great running into Blooddrunk at Battle Circuit on Wednesday. Neither of us did too hot, but it’s nice to see everyone’s trying to get back into the game.

Hi guys, I’m still here too. Haha

So here’s a bit of tech I found to counter a throw (command or normal) with lp hozanto, super. Find a pattern in your opponent’s throws and next time you see it, do a half circle into back-jump… kind of a backward tiger knee and hold up-back for a couple frames and then press lp. You’ll see a funny jump-animation dodge the throw, and the lp hozanto will come out, at which point, you do the super. Who knows if you’ll ever get this in in a real game, but it’s definitely a cool trick. I’ve been practicing this like crazy with Hakan’s dives (using lp+lk, so I tech, if I’m late); very difficult and requires concentration, but I can do it many times in a row against a dummy. It blocks high, too, so it’s not as unsafe as it would be otherwise. I’m a bit partial toward Guy, as I think he’s an interesting, high-difficulty character like Hakan. I figured I’d share this, just in case it turns out someone can actually pull this off consistently.

Sounds like you’re talking about jump-canceling the LP Hozanto. You can find more info about jump canceling in FREEJ4Y’s video:

Anyone able to execute this in actual fights on a regular basis? I hadn’t even thought of it against Abel’s step throw! Very nice. Also, with my technique, I’m pressing up-back, which tends to activate standing block-stun.

a guy if I do the safe jump on after slide and I seen the ryu player teching alot after I land should I take the risk of lk bushin kick as I land?

High, only do it if they will commit to a grab. Ryu does have a DP. Better off doing this to like Abel or characters with invincibility frames on their grab when they have bar, still a risk mind you.

So I guess marq teddy made it far with guy what do you think of his matches that made to stream?

UyuuPop Marq Teddy Kiyo and Phero all made top 64,

Their win ratio is below.
Kiyo: 10-2
Phero 9-2
Uyuupop 6-2 *sent Papatiwawa to losers
Marq 5-2 had a bye first round
Papa- 4-2

If Marq actually played solid he could have done much better but after seeing his match with Infil. I don’t think it’s ever going to happen and players will soon adapt to everything he is doing.
