You should go for it anyway. I’m fairly certain there are still quite a few lurking souls in these parts.
Perhaps I’m wrong though. Haha.

There will always be lurkers, and there will always be people looking for knowledge.
I just had a look at the capcom unity forums for what people have been posting for Guy. I don’t think I’m gonna have another look. Some person asking for Guy’s flip elbow to have Akuma-like air grab whiff recovery on the ground. The whole move itself whiffs - what more do you want!?!??

The problem is, if enough noobs - and by noobs I mean players who don’t know how to fight Guy, but may know how to play the game to a somewhat decent level, complain about the same things enough times, even if unjustly, capcom may have to listen to em?

Fine, take the word of the masses. But I think Capcom should also try listening to the top 10/15 on the leaderboards for each character first. Some of us have played 15 thousand matches, perhaps 20 or 25 or more with just our main.Surely we’re more entitled to speak out for our characters.

It’s fine if everyone is allowed to have their say but there should be some sort of hierarchy - and I would trust the more experienced players to suggest buffs and nerfs more appropriately, not just for their character but for others too.

Not to mention that these top 10/15 players would know other Guy players inevitably…so they could take their opinions on board, from forums etc.

I recently found that Neck Flip combos on the whole cast without Counter Hit only if the last hit of Neck Flip hits on the opponents earliest Wake Up frame or Recovery frame. For example: (against akuma in the corner) Cross Up Mk, Bushin Chain Combo into Back Throw, stMp cancelled into a well timed Neck Flip [akuma has to crouch Down+Back] then crLk, crLp, stMp into Run Slide. This is probably going to take a few tries but you’ll generally know when your going to get the Link by the animation and sound effect. Also, I discovered when using the same set-up, you can combo into Guy’s Ex Tatsu after the last hit of Neck Flip as well.

Yeah it leaves you at +4 or +5, I believe +4 cause you can link into st.lp, It only works on players that don’t see it coming or don’t have a reversal. It’s not to pull out every now and then to mix things up, Honestly people always fall for the run/stop grab when you do that reset as they always expect a meaty . Works like a charm if you use st.mp has opposed to st.hp as Guy will be closer to the opponent which helps with the mixup cause they’ll think you’ll be behind them.

Tournament was today in CT, sorry I forgot to post the stream, I was rushing to leave the house etc. I got 9th, Lost to EMP Hiro and Freej4y.

I have 3 stream matches so I’ll make sure to get the replays and post them. I honestly did bad against Hiro mostly because he knew the matchup much deeper than I did. Considering he plays Kreymore on a daily basis I was actually okay with losing. He played incredibly solid.

Freej4y we play each other a lot so we know what each other can do but I have yet to beat him in tourney, one of these days but he’s honestly the only Deejay I’ve faced that knows and understands the Guy matchup and can win it.

I also went in as Ravin’ instead of Blooddrunk or Deznere. It’s an inside joke between Freej4y and myself :coffee:

Make sure you post these matches bro! I definitely wanna see this.

Its in the video thread.

It appears I discovered something I didn’t know Guy could do. The last hit of tatsu creates a juggle state. I discovered this trying to find a more effective way to punish Ibuki’s Ex Up Kick. Record Ibuki’s Ex Up Kick into Low Dagger. As soon as the block stun wears off, do Guy’s Ex Tatsu. If Ex Tatsu hit on the last hit, then mid-screen you can punish with Ex Hozanto for 170 dmg. In the corner Fierce Tatsu will create 140 dmg, Ex Tatsu 200 dmg and Ultra One 422 dmg. It works on all versions of Tatsu and on any character if you catch them air borne and high enough in the air. Are their any other ways to use this?

Effective way of punishing Ibukis EX upkick.

No Kunai= Lvl2 focus
Kunai= lvl3

Cr.Hk causes KD if no kunai is thrown, if thrown you get a full combo.

EX Kazegiri, with or without Kunai, can be punished with TK MP air grab. Alternatively, Guy can dash forward, regardless of whether there is a Kunai or not and punish that way as well. If the Kunai is thrown however, Guy can do a full punish with cl. st. HK; without the Kunai, the window is a bit harder to punish with target combo so throwing is a simpler solution or U2 if you’re good at executing it. The only issue I have with either of these punishes is that it needs to be done pretty quickly. The window to do the TK MP air grab is pretty tight and even dashing forward is somewhat difficult to do because it’s counter-intuitive to dash forward after a whiffed/blocked DP. I’ve played endless matches against an Ibuki player and even when I expect the EX upkick, I still have a difficult time reacting to it accordingly. I’ve tried to lvl2 Focus when she doesn’t use a Kunai but she always seem to recover in time to block it, maybe I’m just not doing it early enough. For the most part though, if they are knowledgeable with Ibuki, they wouldn’t throw a Kunai since they don’t really get much out of it and they eat a much harder punish if the opponent knows what to do.

As far as punishing with EX tatsu, it probably isn’t the best thing to do since it spends a meter and even if it juggles, if what you say is correct, EX Hozanto follow up will result in 170 damage which is not a lot of damage for having to spend two meters. Getting the tatsu to juggle is a bit hard to do and I would think it’s pretty rare when it lands unintentionally. It’s an interesting find but unless you (or other Guy players) have the presence of mind to U1 in the corner with it for those rare instances when it does juggle, it’s not very practical.

I found a use for Ex Tatsu Juggle, but it may be more character specific and situational. Against characters who jump in and neutral jump or characters who dive kick and neutral jump possibly. Against Blanka, he jumps in with forward jump Hk, neutral jump Hk in expectation of a throw maybe. Ex Tatsu should create a one hit juggle. I understand there less expensive ways to punish, but its covers more options. Nontheless it is interesting.

Just for insight on everyone and confirmed.

Kiryu has indeed quit AE as well as Otinhoso/Pedro. Sad to hear this from Pedro but the reasoning as to why are unknown to me.

Cool - you can more or less put me on that list too. Maybe might come back to see what they do with the patch.

Well, I just mostly play for fun and try to find or improve his tech. I hope the update will fix alot of Guy problems though.

You and I are definitely the tech monsters lol.

Well thanks to an SRK post, Guy has apparently another normal for Kara throwing has a much farther range but has very little uses,

Cl. St. HK. Seems to have good use when it comes to knockdowns but at this very range you can also use st.mp.

What exactly is it that doesn’t make Guy a “great character”? To me, he’s quite strong but there’s just a lack of players.
