hope marq teddy learns to bait a reaction more(fireball) or respect his his oppenent and block a little more when defending(can’t always hit a button) I can see him getting better still.
From the looks of that trailer, it looks like that as long as st. MP can connect, so will st. HP to target combo. If that is the case, the buff feels excessive. Guy’s st. MP is one of Guy’s farthest normal and if the st. HP can connect even on block, that makes opening up opportunities a lot easier for him. Although I do have to say that if it remains the way the trailer looks, Guy can blow up focus attacks very easily by using the TC so I am happy about that. I do wonder if people will flock to him for that reason though, my guess is no but I guess we’ll see.
It seems very excessive. I don’t want to be a theory fighter off of a 3 second clip in a trailer though lol, so I think I’ll wait and see what other changes he and other characters receive. Guy becoming too strong is exactly what I feared with this update. To me, he didn’t/doesn’t need too much. Just increased walk speed, a slight fix to his target combo vs. certain characters, and maybe a EX BSK buff.
What’s his Cammy specific combo? He can use target combo on anyone provided they’re in range. Now they’ll always get hit. I don’t see how this is broken. He can now compete from a nice mid range distance that allows him to more easily hit confirm (and into a hard knockdown) and blow up focus attacks. It’s a very good (and needed) buff that some of you guys are blowing out of proportion. This isn’t going to make him broken, lol. Also insinuating that lots of people will pick him up over ONE buff like that is quickly jumping the gun. We need to see not only the rest of HIS changes but the entire cast changes too.
Honestly though, I don’t see why so many of you fear Guy becoming top tier and people picking him up. If you’re playing a character to be a hipster, then you’re playing a character for the wrong reasons.
I think the specific combo is Cr. HP> St. MP>St. HPxxRun Slide. It’s not really a fear of people picking him up or being a hipster. I already think he’s really good in AE 2012. I think people fear losing that rewarding feeling when winning with Guy.
But that’s the problem, you should feel rewarded for winning with your character regardless of where they place on the tier list. If people can only feel validated by winning with lower tier characters, then they are playing those characters for the wrong reasons.
I think you’re underestimating how much this buff really is. Being able to target combo from that range opens up a ton of opportunities for him to get in on his opponent. One of his biggest weaknesses currently is being able to ‘get in there’ but with this buff, it won’t be much of a problem anymore. The original request of this buff was so that it wouldn’t whiff so easily against some characters (shotos, Sakura, etc.) but this is going a bit overboard. I’m not sure if they were lazy or couldn’t find a way for it to deal with hurtboxes of some characters and just decided to buff the hitbox of the target combo against everyone or not but even you said it yourself, from the target combo, he can easily hit confirm into a hard knockdown which is a large part of his game plan.
I don’t think any of us really care whether or not he is considered “top tier” or not, it’s a matter of whether or not he becomes ‘broken’ to the point where he becomes braindead-easy to play and this doesn’t apply to just Guy, it’s to any of the cast.
@Murdurus Couldn’t have said it better myself. Guy is already mid to mid-high tier IMO. I don’t think he will become braindead easy though. I trust Capcom will make this version very balanced. Doesn’t hurt to have some concerns though. That range looks ridiculous lol. SFxT seemed to have the perfect range for it. However, I haven’t played that game in a while.
Bottom line, it’s a 3 second clip. So it’d be foolish to jump the gun this early lol.
Well. In my opinion if they were aiming to this version being the “final Version” of SF4 they could just give significant buffs to the “lower tiers” so the entire cast was kinda broken. I wouldn`t mind that.
We can only wiat and see… but I like the idea of watching tounaments without an army of Camies and Ryus etc, etc… It sounds fun to me… I might be wrong though
I highly doubt that it’s going to be the final version with the addition of new characters. I actually dreaded the fact that they were going to add new characters because IF this is the final version and the new characters end up being too good like it was with Yun in AE, then they might say, “live with it.”
The problem I have with the “let’s make everyone broken then it’ll be fair” method is that it takes away from the game when people die in 2-3 combos. I think in vanilla, they went with that route and it didn’t make for a very good game.
I’m not underestimating this buff. I’ve wanted this buff in particular for years now. I know what it means for Guy. However, I think you guys are blowing this out of proportion. He could get in just the same before. Remember he has to land the st.mp to start the target combo and he could cancel into run>whatever before hand so he will be getting in the same as before. Just now he will have an easier time hit confirming into run>slide, and seeing if the combo was blocked to go into run>stop instead. It’s a great buff but it making him broken? You guys are basing this off of ONE buff without seeing any other changes to him or the rest of the cast, plus Guy will still suffer from the same weaknesses he had before (unless that stuff gets changed too). You guys realize that a ton of other characters can easily confirm from mid range into a knockdown right? This won’t be exclusive to Guy.
As far as the hitbox on the buff itself goes, I think Capcom just decided to do what they did with Ken’s target combo. If the MP connects, then the HP is guaranteed too. Guy’s target combo has been tweaked with every update and I’m sure Capcom is sick of people still complaining about it. It gets better with each update, but the HP portion still whiffs due to its hitbox. They now it will just connect from full range. Fact of the matter is, had they not made it like this, it would still whiff (albeit from the furthest of ranges) and people would still complain. Besides, Capcom said they wanted to make everyone GOOD in this version, and this will definitely help Guy.
You guys worry about the wrong things. Him being braindead? From one change? He will still likely get out footsied by a large portion of the cast and still struggle on wakeup and against grapplers (unless we see other changes). Good thing he’s braindead, huh? But seriously, I know that came off as me sounding like a dick, but I think you guys should relax, enjoy this new buff, and think about some of the other changes that other characters got too.
Which is exactly what I was saying before hand. No need to immediately start saying this buff is broken or that it will make him braindead. We don’t even know the specifics of this buff yet.
