Kick your sneakers off and relax~ Guy General Discussion Thread

I wish we could go back to SNES-GC era. At least then systems didn’t just flat out break unless you did something wrong to it, or its just that inevitable chance of your disc reader shorting out after years of use.

From now until ECT, I’m going to try to be a little more active on the forums again. I’ll try to have the rest of the match up threads up before the end of the month.

IF you need help or any of you need help, let me know. I am really good at proof reading and editing and research.
Art is my talent, but I have been on hiatus for a while…

Well I found 3 news ways to combo off of Guy’s overhead
Note that’s all of them only works in the corner I think I will have to train with it more
So the first one is with Bushin Chain in the corner so after the last hit of Bushin Chain which is the HK you forward dash, then take a few steps and then do his overhead you have to make sure the second hit of the overhead only connects and after that you can do cr.LK, st.MP into EX Hozanto or cr.LK into MK tatsu.
The second is with EX Hozanto and it’s basically the same set up only this time you have to be a bit quicker and I know this only works in the corner
and the last one is a bit tricky because if you mess it up you might dash under the opponent or just get punished but anyway after a lvl 2 or 3 focus attack wait for your opponent to get close to the ground and then after that do a cr.LP after that take a few steps and then do the overhead.

Well I will keep testing this out in training mode but I think that it will make of good use and be effective  and here’s a tutorial on how to do it from Gaz Desu but it’s a different set up from the 3 I posted.

I was working in training mode and then went online a few hours ago to get more experience…
I did a combo of cr.HP, cr.HK. It was in the corner. Does this cause a hard knockdown?
I also found out that cr.LP, cr.LP, cr.LK, Tatsu works. Is this something to use as a mix-up with blockstrings? Should it be used at all?
Interestingly, many people I played are conditioned to block low as soon as they see Run executed, anticipating the slide, and this has allowed me to land numerous Run>HKs. I was using it to mess with them as they’d start blocking high and then I’d do Run>slide.
I managed to get ONE Instant KIO on someone, but I’m far, far from being consistent and knowing every appropriate time to use it (based on damage output and punish choices, hence the thread I initiated.)
Still need tons of practice, but I’m having fun breaking in my sneakers.

cr.HK has always caused a hard (untechable) knockdown as long as it knocks down. I think the only character whose cr.HK doesn’t cause a hard knockdown is Dudley.

Why are using Bushin Senpukyaku in block strings? It’s extremely punishable on block.

I was comboing BSK after the cr.LPx2, cr.LK and then wondering if I should use it in blockstrings. I haven’t been using BSK IN blockstrings. Right now I mostly BSK on Wake Up, sometimes as AA and as a combo ender.

you’ll get punished.

Ahh, then I’ll nix that idea since I’m supposed to be punishing THEM.

Nothing amazing but I finished 5/6th place out of 16 in a small tourney here in Denmark. I was the only one representing Guy. It didn’t help that it was on PS3. My timing was off on my links and I had major butterflies the entire time. Needless to say, I played like shit. I got beat by a Gief and a Bison. The Gief was unorthodox, using him as a footsie character. The Bison was very, very solid. Time for more practice.

I forgot to tell you guys about Season’s Beatings lol I’m so late but anyway it went well I won 1 match and lost 2 and I was out of the tournament but I had so much fun and got alot of experience from it. I also seen alot of great matches and did a few casual matches against some great players so all in all a great experience.
Also I plan making match up threads for Vega, Evil Ryu and possibly for Hakan

Today… I am going to grab my cam and record some matches… cause… I’m still unknown here and do that cross up vid :x.

Gradually getting to where I want to be. Participated in a small local tournament at Next Level last night and finished in second, only losing to Sanford twice. Played better against him (still not even close to putting up a fight, though) and beat other players to whom I lost in the last tournament that I attended.

At this rate, things are looking pretty good for ECT.

congratulations… you have any footage?

Unfortunately, I don’t. I’ve always had trouble with losing control and momentum of a match since playing Guy, and that’s been something that I’ve been trying to improve over the last few months. Despite not playing my best last night, the improvement in that aspect of my game was very noticeable. Being down 2-0 in Losers’ Finals and coming back to win was very satisfying.

I had a local tourney here as well, sadly it went round robin but i feel that RR is better cause then you fight everyone. Went 2-3 I could have gone 3-2 but i was dropping combos against Akuma

I also attended a local tourney here, though I didn’t compete due to financial reasons. It was amazing though. I helped run a few brackets and met many great people. The event was streamed and I hope they post it to youtube so I can watch it and listen to commentary.
It was exhilirating to learn that only a couple others play Guy, though no one at the tournament used him.
I am very inspired to train even more now!

Coming in to say I beat TTC Noah, (Noah the Prodigy.) I dont fear you Honda…

The furthest I’ve ever come in a tournament was the Shadowloo Showdown qualifiers where I just missed out on top 8 to a very solid Rose player (friend of af0’s). Now I think it is what it is, but at the time I was PISSED because the monitors were so laggy. I was dropping combos all day, just couldn’t adapt my hand-eye coordination to deal with the lag. All that time I spent playing on a CRT and then investing in a lagless HD TV really didn’t pay off how I hoped it would lol. Credit to af0 though who did make top 8 in that tourny, and we had an extremely hype mirror match set that drew quite a crowd.

I think that may be my problem see I play on my home TV and beforehand my PC then I go to tournies where its the Asus monitors used at Evo but on the monitors I drop combos a few times…

I still have to work on FADC on the player one side. I get it maybe 15% of the time I actually go for it
