In the beginning Honda match up is hard, but once you learn the option selects and how to bait, its not even hard anymore.
Yep,once you punish his wake up options,he ll start to block,then you can get some rushdown (for a while) , still bad MU imho because Honda deal big dmg,his ‘almost’ safe reversals are well regarded most of the time,Guy ultra 2 for life!

I’ve been playing with Guy a bit and experimenting with some things. Is there any use for tech-throw lk tatsu? I was also playing with his air throw. You can OS tech throw or OS throw with that, too, oddly enough (e.g. if you c.lk and whiff this, you’ll do his air throw; possibly useful against Bison’s EX stomp?). I’m more curious about Guy’s tatsu and whether it would be useful at such close rang with a tech throw attached. Thanks!
Not exactly sure since I never try to do risky things, especially since I’m mostly an offline player going to local tournies. Things like that are a bad idea.
But i know his lk tatsu beats throws I at least use that.

Gotcha. I didn’t realize his lk tatsu wasn’t throwable, so this is most certainly useless. My main is Hakan, and I experimented a lot and got some interesting tech doing weird c.lp+lk+special moves or c.hp. I see Guy can do tech-throw-c.hk+lp+lk, which will punish back dash, block reversals and three-frame jabs, tech throws and undercut neutral jump, setting Guy up for U2. Should they just sit there, it’s risky but with a giant payoff, should they neutral jump. He’s an interesting character that feels very awkward for me right now. Floaty jumps, crappy pokes but his run-stop and air throw (2,3,6,9 punch) seem fun to me. I’m warming up to his combos, too. He seems hard to use… like Hakan. Not sure he’s going to be worth the headache, but I’m playing with him for now.
Actually Guy’s Ultra 2 nabs Safejumps even if they are empty so no matter which Ultra and character of course… you basically have them caught. Actually Guy’s pokes are quite good, you’d be surprised just how many things cr.mp can beat things out as well as st mk. So he’s got good pokes, you just have to use them.
To be honest if you play on Xbox I can show you a few things in endless. Honestly the mirror match of Guy vs Guy, pretty much will show how you have to manage your matches. It’s similar to Hakan but I’d say he isn’t as much a headache. You just have to learn his fundamentals and metagame. Basic strategies of the matchups and go from there.
I just thought s.mk was too slow, really. I think it’s okay. “Crappy” is too strong a word. C.mp does seem pretty good, though so far.
I do play on Xbox live. For now, though, I’m just getting the really basic stuff down with Guy and getting the feel. I’m playing in Arcade mode, just to make sure I can at least do his target combo consistently and stuff like that. I’ll be watching a lot of uploaded matches, too and youtube, until I get a good idea. Also, yeah, no one is as hard to master as Hakan. That dude is crazy hard to learn. (I’ve only recently been able to compete with high level opponents, e.g. I played about even with a 3500 pp Hawk and another 3500 Cody). I have way more work to do with him, before I’ve mastered him, though. Guy will be my side hobby for now, though. Most interesting character I’ve played with aside from Hakan, really.
I mostly played offline for around 2 years and Alpha 2-3 consistently to mend my Guy together. Playing the older games help you think of strats and such.
Do we have a Hakan and Vega match up thread? If we don’t I would be happy to make them

Speaking of which I lost 3 matches that I should have won in rank and man I never get angry at rank but I was mad at myself because I did stupid things that got myself killed I hate when that happens. Well the characters I lost to was Honda, Dee Jay and Dudley and I had all three matches won. I had the life lead on the Honda so of course I sat back and waited for him to come to me but then the Honda jumped in on me so I tried to anti air him with cr.mp because I didn’t have enough meter to use EX Tatsu but my anti air missed and he got a command grab when it wiffed so after that he tried to cross up and I did a auto correct EX Tatsu so that this moment I was prepared to punish anything he will do so he woke up with EX headbutt so I was about to punish with EX Hozanto but somehow a HP hozanto came out and he punished me for it so after that he attempted a cross up Sumo Splash and I knew it was about to happen but I forgot to block high or even punish with EX Tatsu and I lost the match. So dumb of me lol but it happens
And with the Dee jay match I had this one won but I had the wrong ultra so i did cr lk, cr lk, st mp into run slide for the knockdown and I and the life lead but not by much. I knew he was going to backlash so I did OS U1 BUT I forgot I choose U2 so when I did the input for U1 EX Run came out and he ultra me and won the match. that one also made me mad but I got over it just can’t make that mistake again. I just hate it when I lose matches and it was all my fault but all I can do is learn and move on
You would have been punished for the EX hozanto on Honda, EX Headbutt leaves him at -8, only headbutts you can punish are MP and HP.
I’ve had a fair amount of bad matches lately, but its mainly because of lag or latency. I evenly lost a Guy mirror because of it. oh well -shrugs-
^ if you have honda against the wall, you can punish ex and low headbutt with guy’s stmp comboed into whatever. well about 90% of matches i lose is because i play on a bad pad. but it only makes me stronger.
do you play on xbox or ps3?
ps3 for now. theres a good chance i will switch maybe later this year to 360. two ps3’s went bad on me and thats probably the end of the line for me. theres a guy with my same name on 360, but thats not me.
