I’ve played Pungza a few times over the summer, and his match against Combofiend doesn’t do him justice. He’s the reason why I hate the Rose match up. I’m not trying to take anything away from Combo, though. Those two EX Hozanto > FADC > U1 sequences were absolutely great reads.
Yeah I still stand by my word that Combos Guy isnt that great compared to Kiryu. But Combo as a player has loads of clutch (example here is EX shoulder FADC U1 when he had no life) and uses Guys limited footsies and ambiguous crossups to full potential.
i agree… i think kiryu’s guy is better than combofiend’s. if combo incorporated more of guy’s tools more consistently… like run stop, as you said… it’d make his guy a lot scarier than he already is. great reads by combo with the 2 EX shoulder’s FADC. but that rose was asking for it. he did wake up backdash every time he got knocked down. not to take away from the rose player… as i’m sure he’s good, but damn that dude was impatient. he hit buttons every time there was a pause in a blockstring… literally EVERY time. you’re just asking to be counterhit like that.
to me what makes the rose matchup hard for guy is when rose zone’s him out. guy has problems with characters that can space really well and zone him out. if you rush him with rose… you’re now in guy’s territory. i think if the rose player would’ve been more patient he would’ve done better. not that i didn’t want combofiend to win haha.
oh, and i went online with Guy last night (brief history, SSFIV is my first fighter and Guy was one of my first characters, but i quickly moved on, but got him out again on Wedensday night.)
My 100BP Guy was raping a 3500BP Ken, and he quit in the middle of the second round before i beat him, as he didnt want the loss lmao
I am glad I found this. Some good shit is coming out of the guy players lately. agreed that combos’ guy needs to use the mix up game a lot more effectively…his calm attitude really compliments guy.
I found out a couple of days ago that target combo at point blank range on a crouching Guy dummy doesnt work. The fierce whiffs,AT POINT BLANK RANGE!
I mean what was Capcom thinking when they were testing guys combos.Did they not try cr.jab x2,TC on every character, from a distance thats not point blank? And how exactly did they let the above mistake into the game?Did someone just really not get around to testing that?
I know its gonna be fixed and all but how they let something as simple as that just slip and almost completely ruin a character,it boggles my mind.
^^ yea i remember some one posting something about TC whiffing on guy a while back. it is… indeed pretty stupid, and like you said i don’t know how the testers let something like that slide. did they think no one was going to throw in a jab or two before the target combo? i mean the fact that every guy player here discovered how often it whiffs on day one shows they didn’t play test it enough, or just didn’t really care.
if it had worked properly when super was initially released, it makes you wonder if they’d be able to give guy something else or make other changes on him in the AE release if TC had worked properly from the get go.
Just wanted to say sorry for my lack of presence on the boards. Ive just gotten kinda tired of seeing / answering the same crap over and over. I’m still here every day though ;D
