Kick your sneakers off and relax~ Guy General Discussion Thread

New post separate from my rant:

Super Street Fighter 4 Tiers ? Character Rankings : EventHubs.com

Guy is bottom 5 (wonder why they use brown for the bottom tiers lol).Only above Gen and the rest.

Personally I think this is the most ridiculous list I’ve ever seen.Since when were characters like Blanka,Vega and Ken considered bad matchups?

I’m actually annoyed at Eventhubs for posting this because it is some of the worst misinformation yet people will believe it.They just took some random information from a wiki but because it’s ‘japanese’ its counted as solid information.Surely just by looking at a player like Kiryu you can tell most of these numbers are off and he is japanese!

to everyone thats talking about online being garbage, i strongly disagree. Just find quality players, and play them in offline rooms. There are a thousand and one “diamonds in the rough” online regarding quality players. I know ive come across quite a few people who play solely online, that are quite good actually. Its just a matter of taking the time to search for them instead of wasting the time playing ranked getting random people, the majority of which are horrible. I always have a room full of quality players going whenever im online. If anyone would like to join, simply send me a message.

On another note:

when playing with serious, competitieve players online, you can gain just as much as you can if you play offline matches (providing the connection is good). the only thing that playing in a tourny will teach you more than playing serious matches online, is to stay calm under pressure while people are cheering in your ear.

just my two cents i guess

gg’s Shin_Akuma_SRK. I learned a lot from you. Some crazy setups you’ve got there! Im gonna have to steal some haha

Fair enough K1.What you’re saying is true. What I do is,if I have a good match with someone in ranked and can tell they’re a good player and have a good connection,I invite them back to a 2 man private endless lobby so I can just play them until I learn the matchup. The thing is though alot of these people never oblige and never even join the lobby.

I hate endless even if it’s with a group of people I know because waiting your turn to play makes you learn matchups slower and gives you less room to experiment.

Same here obey! There are only a few really good Guy players on PSN that I can count with one hand. You definitely are one of them. You have a very solid Guy.

I guess you can’t really blame Eventhubs for posting that tier list. The people over there post Street Fighter news, and I suppose that this is “news.” I think the overall grouping of characters is somewhat accurate, but there are some character placements that I think are questionable.

As for Guy and his match ups, there are a lot of things that I’m sure everyone here doesn’t think are true. He should definitely have a lot more 5-5s across the board.

that’s the most ass tier list i’ve seen to date. there is no way guy has that many 3-7’s and 4-6’s.

on a side note… can some one test this? i can’t because i don’t have a ps3 at my house right now to test anything.

on sunday i was playing with a bunch of friends and i fought a friend’s rose… after a combo into run slide i went for the nj. forward safe jump and my friend activated rose’s U2. during the animation i mashed out guy’s U2… and caught rose to win the round. can some one test to see if rose can jump out of it. i have a strong assumption that she definitely can.

Lol I was going to post the tier rankings last night and I made a huge long post complaining about the whole thing. Then I looked at the list again and saw how big of a joke it was and didnt even think it was worth my time. I said this in another thread and I will say it again. There are not that many 7-3 matchups in the game, the IPW list has about 7 total but this Japanese list has about 8 or 9 7-3 matchups for Honda alone.

Im so suprised by the way this tier list looks that im not even going to complain anymore. If people are still putting Guy that low considering how well Combofiend / Tsuki / RB have done, then theyre morons. I guarantee if Daigo picked up Guy he would all of a sudden jump up at least 10 slots. Whatever, this tier list works in our benefit. Anyone looking at it will think Guy is a joke. All that list does is promote ignorance for our competition. Fine, if you ask me. Not my fault they wont know what the fuck to do when theyre getting bushin flip reset. BTW, im calling it right now: Im going to get top 32 at EVO next year. watch. Im going to go harder than ive ever played before during this upcoming year.

Actually, I laughed when I read that list. Since SF4 I was saying that Honda was way too underrated.
His only bad match-ups imo were Ryu and Sagat and that’s what kept him back. And then at the end of SF4 Mago made a Tier List that rated Honda way higher than he usually was. And since then he started to climb his way up.

Like K1 I think that it’ll be an advantage if they rate Guy that low. People will sleep on the match-up and get their ass kicked. I saw this at the last tournament I attended. A very nice Guy fought a pretty good Rog in semi-finals iirc. After the Rog player lost the first round of the first match, he turned to his mates and said “Alright, this is it. No idea how to play this match-up.”

Thats the true spirit of a competitor K1. Good Luck. Hopefully Evo 11 will be running AE or whatever patch the console ends up getting. Im really looking forward to the few buffs he will get. I dont really have a problem with TC wiffing anymore as I have gotten used to the range but it still does miss occasionally especially on smaller shoto type chars. When it does though im screwed… cant wait for the patch

yap, i heard that too, cause i was fighting that Rog

yeah I actually forgot to tell u people about the tournement and how i got placed.

I did pretty good, was placed 2nd in my group, won 4 matches lost 1…qualified myself for the pros. tournement.

Won all matches, got into the semi finals and won that 1 too.

Unfortunatly…then lost to a Rufus.

So was placed 7th out of 96 entries. It was my first event so i think i did well :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe next time i’ll be better

@RisoN90-congrats, good shit man. 7th out of 96 entrants isn’t too bad at all haha. you made top 8, reppin for the guy army. you know if any one recorded any of your matches?

great stuff ris, keep it up

Dnyc3 didnt pick Guy for SB :’( He picked Rog

that sucks… i saw he’s in daigo’s pool. is the tournament character locked? i’m assuming it’s not. i hope he switches to guy at some point.

Even if it is locked, he could probably switch to Guy when the singles tourney starts up. Im almost sure teams and singles act as seperate events

Edit: Combo used Guy! He lost, but still, proof he didnt completely drop him!

Yeah also James Chen said that Combofiend prefers using Guy to Abel because Abel is way too easy of a character to play and win with.

I hope to see him use him outside of the team tournament. At this point it seems like he just plays him and he is successful purely because of his fighting game/player skills honed in CVS2 and other older games.I think if he actually incorporated stuff like run stop and TK EX air izuna and worked on specific matchup knowledge his Guy could be really deadly.

Combofiends Guy beats pungza’s Rose!

Too clutch with EX Hozanto FADC U1 twice.

Just watched Combofiend using Guy against a Rose played by the most buffed asian I’ve ever seen since Bolo Yeung.
He catched that Rose backdash with the trial 24 combo ex-shoulder FADC U1. Pretty awesome.
