When I went to go see Kick Ass in the movies at the part before they had sex someone in the back row yelled out “Don’t do it she has AIDS” and the entire room erupted in laughter.
I havent read any of the comics, but I felt it was above average, but not as good as the first
PROS
Chloe’s performance as Hit-girl
Her “mean girls” subplot
Jim Carrey’ as Col. SS
Action in general (Except for some shaky cam)
CONS
Dave/Kick Ass storyline didnt draw me in. I didnt care much about his plight or the tragic event towards the climax
It feels like it wasnt as Dark as the first one, maybe more straightforward comedy/action
CGI Blood
Hit Girl is a one dimensional and cliche character, poorly written and represented. A girl character who’s powerful purely because the story wanted a powerful girl character to appeal to a demographic.
The Motherfucker and his crew “got creative” after breaking into Kick-Ass’ secret hideout. Kick Ass vol2 #3
Spoiler
They killed Sasha offscreen, tortured then killed her owner The Liutenant, decapitated them both, tied her owner’s body to a chair so his corpse was sitting upright, then put Sasha’s head on his shoulders.
I love the violence and brutality and I wanted it all in glorious live action. I hate that audiences are so fucking pussified that they can’t handle animal cruelty or rape.
No “Condition Red” (cocaine-induced Tanden Renki) for Hit-Girl
Big Daddy was changed from an older dude doing what Kick-Ass does, bankrolled by having mad cash by selling rare comics to an ex-cop. Guess they didn’t want to give collectors any ideas…which was the point of the COMIC, no need to fuck with that. The comic was like “It would be great if someone DID do this…but here’s why you shouldn’t.”
Big Daddy burning to death instead of getting a gunshot to the back of his head.
There was an awful lot they changed. Now they’ll probably have change all the cool scenes in Kick-Ass vol 2. This Olga Kurkulina chick looks good (seriously, though: what is this director’s obsession with casting blondes for brunettes and vice versa?), but is being put to the wrong use. She’s stiff as a brick, which shouldn’t matter cuz her character is supposed to be just shooting the shit out of people, but the director decided to change shit, and has her going hand to hand, no assault rifle. And she sucks mightily due her stiffness.
I remember the first movie being way more violent, there were scenes where limbs were flying cross the screen. And like you mentioned Big Daddy being set alight.
I guess on its own it might be “ok”, but as a sequel to the glorious first movie? It was pretty mediocre. Now i was not expecting it to top the first one, thats kinda of a tall order, but i had hoped it was at least decent. It was NOT.
And hearing them rehash select parts of the original’s soundtrack in this one was weird, as the magic of the first movie that complemented such a soundtrack, is woefully absent. So them attempting to try to artificially pump up certain scenes by using it, was kinda sad.
Yet another one to add to the pile of shameful sequels…
