Ken: What you should know

only USEFULL after cr.light P/K

I’m starting to incorporate in my game, I just am working out the spacing and situation issues.

I’m using standing MK to kara-throw. I toyed around with standing HK too, but didn’t see a difference in distance. Also, MK is easier for me to use than HK.

I use it sometimes after a blocked s.MP. Like, s.MP walk up one step, kara-throw. I just don’t see a huge distance in kara-throw vs. regular throw. It’s one step’s worth of distance. Hmm… I like it, but don’t like it at the same time.

edit: I use kara-throws in all of Ken’s normal tick throw scenarios. I guess I’m just wondering if the kara justifies the almost neglegible added distance. It isn’t like it gets a huge distance increase like Chun or Elena…

k, some fun and fluff:
b.MK karathrow advances you a few pixels.
MK advances you nearly no pixels
with f.MK however you’re moving backwards plenty of pixels

with HK it’s pretty much the same story, apart from the fact you don’t have a b.HK. Punches don’t advance Ken at all, so to put it real simple: karathrows are useless.

I myself am wondering about kara-teching though. You won’t be able to do that standing as you’d get a throw, but crouching it might be possible. I know kara teching by itself is possible as I throwed someone during his kara throw attempt and he teched. So I’m not sure how worthwhile it may turn out.

Oh and a piece of advise: learn to play without tickthrows, if you can do that you can throw your opponent without warning him before like “tick, I’m gonna throw you!!!”; yes there is more to ticks other then throws, but there’s ways to defend against both throws and the other options available.

Could always use crouching karas~

crouching mk/hk ~ lp+lk

Decent range but the timing is strict since the later you kara the kick the farther you’ll advance (the distance advanced is like doing a kara cr. hk demon with akuma).

hi, was wondering if

HP > MP Shoryu > Special

is something I should really be using.

and is this something I cancel into or just link?

and do you recommend i hold down the HP button and then perform the shoryu.

or should i just

MP> MP Shoryu > Special

thank you

^
Yes, but its not a hit confirm. It deals the maximum amount of damage as far as sa3 combos go, so you’d only use it in a punish situation (blocked shoryu or super).

So er… What do I do If I only know how to Tick throw and Mp -> Hp xx super?
Good ken or just plain stupid?

er… so should i be using mp>mp shoryu>special or hp>mp shoryu>special for maximum damage.

also do i cancel the first hits of shoryu into special… or am I supposed to practice and be a beast and time it so the special cancels the second hit of shoryu (ZOMG THAT MUST BE SO HARD). or am i supposed to just try and link it (… but the enemy gets knocked down from getting hit by the mp shoryu!!! )

HP>Mp shoryu> super, for maximum damage.

And you cancel the MP Shoryu after the first hit. You can’t cancel off the second hit because you’ll already be in the air.

Same damage. Use hp because it starts faster than mp.

ah thank you. i can do this one yay~

another question…

its regarding pokes… imainly use

c.mk > hadoken…

however, if i try to execute this after

b,f,b,f,b,f,b,f,b,f,b,f,b,f,b,f,b,f,b,f,b, etc.

and i happen to be walking forward… it will execute a shoryu instead… causing me to be punished severly.

what is the best practice for c.mk > hado after b,f,b,f,b,f spamming?
if i was moving backwards while baiting the other person… it comes out 99% of the time… its moments where i’m moving forward or dashing in to the opponent… that i have problems…

or is there an all together better poke while going forward? … or should i just drop hadoken from c.mk while going forward… gr…

go to neutral before you input the special motion.

dont use c.mk xx normal hado as your go to poke. just use plain c.mk most of the time. ex hado sometimes.

thats what i notice other people do. but what is the reason?

i was just thinking c.mk + hado… would in the long run cause more dmg…

but i notice ppl just c.mk … is it just safer?

A blocked hado is easily punishable, and it is also an easy blockstring to red parry and makes you even easier to punish.

So yes, just c.mk is safer.

thank you~ YAY~~~~~~~~~~ !!! WOEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ YEA YEA GOGOGOGOGOGOGO!!!

oh btw… is it bad to c.mk all day… i just like poking ppl… then if i get a chance… corner them… mix up… with lots of throws… and sweeps… and c.mk hado special …

s.mp is hard to poke with for me… any tips on this?? (notice computer likes to jump in s.mp > s.hp > hado > special

Is it worth practicing c. mk > SA3 as a hit confirm? I’ve been having a lot of trouble with it, especially in the heat of a match. I’ve gone to using it only for punishment and buffering it in case of a dash in/lucky poke.

Also, mp > hp > sa3 is really difficult for me. I know you can add in a hadoken to make it easier, but is it possible to hit confirm before adding the hadoken so I can make it safe on block? Every time I try to hit confirm it, I do the hadoken too late, but maybe I’m just slow.

low forward is kens best friend. And your choice of words just opened up pandoras box. -_-

As kaikillah said, being able to confirm low forward into super is a big asset to Ken. Personally, I feel that Ken can do well enough without it if you’re still learning the game. In my case, I just focused on using cr. lk, cr. lk, Super.

Not being able be able to confirm mp, hp, super is a bit of an issue. Mp, hp gives Ken a way to punish people who guess parry low, so you’ll want to be able to work on that. It is possible to confirm without the fireball, in fact I would encourage learning to confirm it without the fireball. I’ve found out that mp, hp xx super has the same timing as far mp linked into super.

I hope that helps.

I get what you’re saying, but I’ve tried and I just can’t consistently hit confirm with it.

How much time do you get to hit confirm c.mp? Sometimes it seems like some characters recover faster after being hit with c.mp depending on their position. Or maybe it’s just lag? I play mostly on 2df.
