Ken = Skill

who do you play?

im the tall guy who plays Makoto

are you trying to say chun players dont turtle? :confused:

what is there to know about chun, everyone knows pretty much what every chun player is going to do. the problem is there still isnt much you can do about it. i do agree though,most of the people who use chun only seem to be pretty bad at decision making. usually when theyre put on their heels they do something predictable like ex spinning bird kick 9/10 times or something else that leaves them unsafe.

maybe we should get geeo out of retirement and use chun full time again, see how fun that would be :slight_smile:

p.s

ed ma and ken are scrubby :smiley:

Ryuā€™s skilless too. Random EX Fireballs and kara throw. And Denjin is the least skilled super of THEM ALL! I still like playing Ryu though. :slight_smile:

Ken skillā€™s for life.

i think you could be right in some respects, ed ma. but you have to consider two other aspects of skill. the first part about ken is that he is really the easiest character to learn. he has the standards hadoken, shoryuken, and hurricane. they are all easy to input and fairly good on speed. therefore not requiring much skill to actually PHYSICALL USE him. the second factor is application. once you master the moves and understand spacing, timing, ex, etc. you have to be able to apply it. thatā€™s where the REAL skill comes in. you can know the 100% combos and how to do cheap kara stuff but if you canā€™t parry or predict your opponent and all you think about is trying to start the 100% combo then you will lose.

but all around, still a good discussion. cuz afterall there are a lot of ken players but not all of them win tournaments. =\

Ken = Random

Random != Mad Skillzā€¦ random = doing unexpected things that will probably hit cause of high priority attacksā€¦ like jump in shoryuken. hits like a charm even in high level play.

Jump in Back Swing Blow >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jump in Shoryuken

Jump in EX Headbutt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jump in Shoryuken

Jump in EX Spinning Bird Kick >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Jump in Shoryuken

Jump in Shoryuken takes the most balls in the game to do. Fuck, doing Shoryuken period in 3S takes balls to do. You gotta know when to do it because of the high risk and low reward involved.

Ken = Skills.

holy shit man speaks truthā€¦ im seriously startin to think that ken really does = skillz

low reward? hahahahah. okā€¦

srk is the most abused move in the game. doing an EX SBK is great, but it uses up meter, and nobody likes that. srk is FREE, and you get to kara another one in there for damage which EXCEEDS (even though the first one should do rather close to an EX sbk anyways) that of a EX Sbkā€¦ SRK is too abusable. jumpin BSB is gay. but nobody really uses dudley anyways (except for the rare few who are really good with him)ā€¦ and ex headbutt sucks on jumpinā€¦ nobody does it.

Ken = random srk whore.

i must concur with archer: there is no low reward if you land a shoryuken. it has good standing-up priority (if you prefer to use it), and it can easily cancel into super. fierce srk does 3 hits for a fair amount of damage for a non-ex move itself.

edit: btw iā€™m not one to say that youā€™re wrong ed ma, just wanted to add my opinionsā€¦ iā€™ve seen some of your matches and ur a better ken player than me so that acts as a counter argument right to what i said there, lol.

(ex)srk xx shipuu is the most BS crap ever.

kens crossup is very homo.

lk,lk, take a break, shipuu has too much leeway

Random non-comboed Shoryuken:
Reward - Knock down with some decent damage, good damage if you can double uppercut through kara or not. Followup basic wakeup games.
Risk - Itā€™s get blocked and against certain characters, you DIEEEEEE. Jab uppercut also trades/loses to certain normals. EX doesnā€™t knock down unless done close.

Random non-comboed EX Headbutt:
Reward - Possible unblockable setup which can lead to DEATH. Good damage.
Risk - Hard to really punish unless you see it coming from far away. Usually just get a throw tech scenario.

Random non-comboed BSB:
Reward - Stupid damage for such a safe/fast move + knockdown if EXed or supered. At which point Dudley will probably be on top of you as you get up. NO ONE SCARIER THEN DUDLEY WHEN HE IS CLOSE.
Risk - Can get parried if they guy has good reactions, but even then Dudley can super cancel on reaction into Corkscrew which is far safer then Shippu if blocked.

Random non-comboed EX SBK:
Reward - Decent damage.
Risk - Mostly safe unless the guy has super or is short and has crouched it. Plus, wasting super valuable meter.

I repeat, risk vs reward, Shoryuken is high risk, low reward. You gotta know how to use it and the threat of it. BTW, jump around EX Headbutt is REALLY FUCKING GOOD.

EX srk into shippu does like no damage. God damn it, Shippu barely does any damage. Short, short super. So what. Dudley has that too. And it does way more damage. Fuck, even Yun and Yang have that. HOMO.

You want to know whatā€™s homo. Makoto ANYTHING link into super and Dudley ANYTHING link into super. Thatā€™s homo.

Oh yeah, sup ArcadeKid. Long time no see. Wish I had gone to T5. :frowning:

But what about Twelve?
Damn if winning with him isnā€™t hardā€¦

Itā€™s true, Ken is no joke.

Iā€™ve been playing him for a really long time (heā€™s always been my main char in 3s since it came out) and with many of the other characters that I pick up they usually have at least some gimmick(s) you can (or in some cases, must) ride on (or at the very least I find other characters in 3s easier to pick up than ken), where as ken has more like a skillset. He has many very good tools, but they still must be applied aptly.

Ken, in as much as he is difficult to understand thouroughly, yet is very powerful, seems to me more like a development program (like photoshop or 3d studio max, or autocad) whereas alot of the other characters seem more like mspaint.

I think Ken is also kind of like the concept of parrying in 3s, in that it seems like with Ken in 3S, as with parries, the sky is truly the limit (but itā€™s DAMN hard to get there).

EDIT: BTW, to the people who are saying srkā€™s are abusable and even FREE in 3s, seriously, please stop smoking crack.

Haha. Ken = 3DMAX, Urien = MSPaint

Dudley = Mario Paint

Ed Ma: Haha. Ken = 3DMAX, Urien = MSPaint
Lol I havent laughed out loud in a while on these forums.

Good topic. :clap:

WTF? Ken = skill? maybe for the good jap players who still own with almost any character, but the truth is that 90% of newbies start with ken and take less than a week to start crossin, mp,fp>>SAIII. on the other hand while makoto is really cheap it actually takes skill to mess with peoples mind. i play alex and is hard to beat a ken because my B&B doesnt take half bar, i have to use skill. chun is BORING, whow i can cancel low mk>>SAII i know how to play chun. maybe what u meant is that it takes skill to paly a good ken, but that counts for every character as well, good players can kick scrubby chuns asses.

How can do a 100% unblockable set up on someone if you waste your meter with random EX headbutts?
:clap:

Thatā€™s a biased statement if I ever heard one. As one beings to face more and more difficult opponents, oneā€™s general understanding of the game (ie: throw distance, simple ticks, basic game physics) must be fully understood. Look at the way Diago plays for instance. Someone who is brand spankinā€™ new to street fighter might say that all he does is dash around and c.mk>EX Fireball, but if you know anything about the game, you realise that everything he does is a specific reaction to the opponents imputs.

Actually after really thinking about it, Urien takes more skill to play then Ken. The only thing Ken players do thats harder than Urien players is combo into your sa3 while Urien can just put Aegis near Ken and overhead and get lil cheap hits in to take health and build meter.

Kens sweep is great, so is his crouching strong, his axe kick, hell his ducking forward can be comboed into anything. Lets not mention that easy I have 100 options after his cross up bs. Strong fierce combo is too good. His damage is stupid he deals along with his speed.

I mean I can nearly do whatever I want with ken and no desicion is a bad one unless Iā€™m playing ā€œSuper Kensā€ and u know who they are. paul,ed,Yi,Wong,Frank,Hsien,etcā€¦

Urien has his share of bs, but Kenā€¦come on man its Ken.
