What is the option select to punish teleports?
Ok, I have several questions and thank you in advance to whoever takes up the task of helping me along:
First of all. Am I a Noob? On the one hand I probably only win about 1/4 of my online matches, can’t focus attack cancel into ultra to save my life (more on that in the next question), and seem to get dominated pretty easily by serious players. On the other hand, I have loved Street fighter since SF2 in the arcades and would actually lose sleep at night in anticipation of the Super Nintendo release. Took a really long break from video games while I was in college and got back into them a couple years ago only to find that the competition is rediculously good now at street fighter… So just because I’m not an expert w/ over 3000 pp online does that make me a noob?
Next question: Can’t pull off Ken’s trial 16 bc I’m not getting the FADC-Ultra in time. I can do everything but the ultra. Is there a short cut motion or do you really need to input forward, forward, double fireball motion, 3xpunches, all in the span of like one thousanth of a second?! Uhhh… Can someone explain how this is humanly possible.
Next Question: When I am able to pull off an online win, i get hatemail. What’s that all about? Are most online players jerks or is it just my luck?
Last Question: That kara throw that ken’s supposedly able to do…i’m beginning to wonder if it’s possible, i tried a million times, i input forward and mk to do his stepping kick and then almost immediately i throw, i’ve tried it so fast and he just finishes the kick every time! I found that if you hold HK down with forward he’ll do a fake kick, is this the real way to do kara throw in SSF4? If so it’d be nice to have that cleared up?! Also why the f do they call it a Kara throw??? Thanks guys…
Yes.
I usually end the second QCF at the top right corner.
Just your luck unless you’re flowcharting and winning. Now that’s awesome if you get hatemail.
Try again?.. Although the switch to joystick it made it easier for me to flowchart. Can’t say how hard I tried on the pad before I gave up. Now the trick is to press LP+LK immediately after MK. Think of it as “piano-ing” (plinking) from the right to the left with your ring finger on the MK and the pointing+middle finger to the LP+LK as a smooth quick motion. Errrr… Yeah.
Disclaimer: Follow FlowChartKen’s advice at your own risk.
Hey, is there any posting with new combos that are only available in Super? It’s hard trying to navigate through these combo threads with all the old information. Basically, I’m just looking for a list of all the ways that Ken can combo his Ultra 2 now. Thanks.

Yes.
Whatever.
I usually end the second QCF at the top right corner.
Can’t see how that would help shorten the movements. If anything it adds to it.

Not sure what flowcharting is. But I know I can compete in the game. I have had some wins over people that are alot better than me and I’ve had alot of close losses as well. I think once I get my technical skills up to par and I’m able to combo into ultra in matches, my win rate will start to really climb. I switched to a joystick yesterday and right away I was doing the Kara throw with no problem. So that’s one problem solved.
Why do you care if you are Noob? Just play it and have fun playing it.
It’s just a matter of muscle memory, so practice. Also, (S)SF4 is full of shorcuts, so try this instead:
after you perform the shoryuken input, keep pushing forward, then do a focus. Now you don’t need to double tap forward, just release forward and tap forward again. This will save you precious miliseconds to be able to perform a double qcf motion and 3p.
It will go away once you get better and start playing better people.
The way I do this is I push all buttons together, except the finger that presses the mk button is slightly closer to the button than the other fingers. To check if you’re doing it right, go to training mode, turn input display on and see if it shows mk, mk + lp + lk (I think this is the input, sorry I can’t test it right now.) If it shows mk followed by lp + lk, you’re not doing it fast enough. It’s literally milliseconds apart. Search youtube, there are a few tutorials there.
AFAIK, he can combo his Ultra 2 form a far standing punch, from a well spaced hadoken FADC, from a jumping hard kick, jumping tatsu, and cl.mk. This video shows most of them being performed:
If you option select a ex-tatsu or ultra 2 it should hit them if they teleported in front of you, but you may end up facing the wrong direction if it comes out before they have teleported. Try it in training mode and report back please.
Hey guys, I didn’t wanna waste space by making a new thread so I thought I would ask it here. Who are the best Ken users? I ask so I can look up their gameplay on youtube and stuff. The only one I know of is Dr. Chaos. Is there anyone else I should be looking up? I was also wondering if Sanford Kelly used Ken at all. I was watching the ECT2 stream and Sanford Kelly said something to the effect of “I’m gonna use Cammy and Ken from now on.” How hype would that be?
Well if we are talking Japan I believe the best are Wao and Dragon Boy. LilSicx66 is probably one if not the best Ken in the US.
What do you guys include most often in your 50/50 game on wake-up? Whenever I score a knockdown I like to continue to walk forward on unteched knockdowns to imply aggressiveness and bait reversals but usually my mixup will be as follows:
cr.mk to ex tatsu
DP in their face
Throw or Tick Throw
Sweep when I’m feeling lazy and scrubby
Back-mk
Bait and Block
Am I really taking full advantage of Ken’s wake-up game? I am not fully aware of ken’s option selects besides his backdash punishment, and I’m wondering if you guys use anything else to take on those who like to block/reversal/throw
I’d only do that when you have 2 stocks to FADC and either Ultra if the DP connected, or throw/chain if they blocked. Otherwise it’s pretty unsafe, obviously.
Can anyone give me some tips on inputting the motion to:
J. HP -> C. MK -> HP. Hadouken -> FADC -> U2
I’m using an arcade stick, but I’ve always had slight problems with FADC combos. Thanks in advance!
c.MK, Hadouken (you already pressed forward when you made the hadoken motion), press forward again and hit MP+MK (leave them pressed until you see the dash come out), and then make the ultra motion.
ohhh…
Whyy did Kens motherfucking light DP got BETTER recovery? Whats the fucking point of that?
How are you supposed to hold the stick when doing the cr.lp, cr.lp, Shoryuken combo. I try holding it at down forward and going from down to down forward for the shoruyken but it doesnt always comes out. Instead i get hadokens.
Because it was the worst light DP Ken’s had in any SF game and inferior to Ryu’s even though Ken’s suppose to have the better DP?
How are you supposed to hold the stick when doing the cr.lp, cr.lp, Shoryuken combo. I try holding it at down forward and going from down to down forward for the shoruyken but it doesnt always comes out. Instead i get hadokens. Also how do you auto correct DP?
What is the best option for a followup after landing a j.MK? I generally do c.LK s.LP c.MK xx EX Tatsu, but I was wondering what Ken’s other options are.
I have a question. When you knock your opponent down, how do you guys prefer to mess with them? I either do a kara throw or try to jump in and do MK to a random BnB, but either of those options always gets me schooled by wakeup moves like shoryuken, etc. I know you can do other things like just wait and block, etc, but I’m asking from an offensive standpoint. Am I doing the jumping MK wrong? Where exactly should be “landing” for a safe and successful cross up? Also, I’m aware of the Tatsu crossup but I’m still learning to do the basics…
Also, when they’re about to cross me up, I always try to do shoryuken and it either goes in the wrong direction or it doesn’t come out at all and I get hit by the cross up move. Why is it whenever I try to cross people up I always get hit, and when I get crossed up I get hit? Am I timing it wrong, or am I doing the SRK motion in the wrong direction?
Thanks for any advice!
