Ken General Thread: Go with the Flow

what about improved recovery on his specials ? :frowning:

It looks like fireball recovers faster I think lp dp did as well

Maximilian did say that lp dp recovers crazy fast that its hard to punish this thing

Lol that ken played like shit and still won. Ken most assuredly beats Charlie in the evo version. Remember if Charlie throws a boom within jump range you can jump-in for free on reaction as he doesn’t have an SRK and his fireball has normal fireball recovery not sonic boom type recovery. If he goes for a normal anti-air you will blow up his anti-air, he can block and you are in, or get a jump-in punish for his fireball. He doesn’t do big damage anti-air punishes and you can just whiff punish him in footsies. All your hits deal way more damage outside his fireball / teleport punishes …

He played like crap (never held back once) and still won. Most of the time he was pressing buttons at frame disadvantage like how he got hit by st. RH then pressed a button so he got counter-hit by cr. MK. Charlies normals are solid, but they aren’t god like by any means. Play the game a bit and this fear will go away.

Music to my ears man…

Music to my ears, I NEED to get my hands on it. It’s been so hard to go back to SF4 now, just been playing Blood Borne and watching every SFV video I can find.

Scrubby play but Cr.hp on Ch will cause a huge crush counter juggle.

00:59 seconds.

that juggle state seems like it has no follow up sadly

opponent gets blown so far away, lel

If done with the opponents back to the corner tho…? Who knows what madness could take place.

Eh, I wouldn’t worry too much about that. c.MK xx hado was relatively unsafe in 3rd Strike and only quasi-safe in SF4 since you could focus - dash through the fireball. He’s still one of the best ground game characters in both games. Unsafe sweep at all ranges is annoying though.
Also how come you say Ken merely had an “average to above average” ground game in 3rd Strike? In my head he’s second only to Chun in that regard, which is a huge reason why he was so great in that game.

His ground game is so good because of SAIII off EVERYTHING. Yang, Chun, Elena, Ryu, Oro, and imo Akuma have just as strong of a ground game or better than Ken for various reasons they just can’t as easily turn it into damage. Oro’s footsies are actually pretty amazing, just st. RH whiffs over Chun’s cr. MK so that matchup is 7-3. Also Ibuki st. RH is pretty strong against the shoto normals, but her damage just sucks too much ass in 3S for it to be an even matchup.

Overall I agree he had the second best ground game, but I don’t think it was because of his normals winning every scenario in the world like Chun. It was because he could turn everything in the world into super like Chun (actually better than Chun).

SFV Ken seems like a cross between his A2 and 3S counterparts. His run kinda functions like his old roll in that he can sweep into it and close distance immediately.

If we take SA3 out of the equation, then I might put Yang and Ryu slightly above him in the ground game because EX slash and EX hadoken are amazing tools on top of their already great buttons. I don’t agree with the others though, I think Ken is still a step ahead of them, though they can definitely hold their own against him. Akuma and Ibuki have great buttons but struggle with low health, which is a huge drawback when you’re trading blows on the ground. Oro has really good buttons, but he still needs to fight inside of shoto sweep range if he wants to get a hit, which is kind of problematic. Elena is… weird, and admittedly my only experience with her was against a player who’d constantly whiff slides and c.MPs at bad ranges, but I just don’t feel like she’s quite up there with the others.

That being said, you’re completely right that his buttons don’t beat everything the same way you see with Chun, and that his ridiculous ability to convert hits into super is probably more important than his buttons in why he’s so good. He’s very honest overall, but he has some of the strongest buttons overall and he gets rewarded better than most of the cast if you’re good. And that’s really what I hope we’ll see in SFV-Ken as well.

(also, I think Oro - Chun is as bad as 2-8. Everything whiffs on Chun, her moves beat his, and she can freaking reversal super all his buttons. ;_:wink:

Would be sick if ken had no shirt on like ryus alt1 in sf4 and long hair like in alpha.

Tested kens V-trigger at vs fighting and it has no invinciblity. A few people thought it did because combofiend activated it and maxs stepkick whiffed, but he just didnt time the meaty right.

Not sure why momochi keeps using l.tatsu into ex.dp, one of the ex.dps hits whiffs for some reason. L.dp into ex.dp does more damage and all hits connect.

I saw couple of players trying to lk tatsu into ex.dp in the latest WSO sessions and it kept whiffing

is this shiyut only possibru in Heat Rush ?

Only connects in V-trigger, if you are talking about V-trigger don’t know. Alioune got to play some version recently that changed all the characters dramatically though supposedly (no jab links for anyone) so who knows what it is like now.

Does ken have to press a button after the dash to stop it? I tried to block after doing the dash but ken just keeps running. If you need to press buttons the other player can dp every time right?

Yep, I did v-skil->cr. Jab to stop, but from far away dashing is a much better option.
