No more advantage for step kick we don’t want salty people screaming nerf. (and actually being right about it lol) I’ll gladly give up step kick for all the tools he has now.
His damage is going to be lower than Ryu’s but with more offensive options. Currently because of Ryu’s b. MP->b.RH->cr.MK->Tatsu option Ryu can hit 50% meterless if he starts that combo from a f. FP or a jump-in. Ken isn’t likely to get up to that from what we know so far. Also Ken has more ways to turn long range hits into high damage.
Best I got meterless was cr.MP->b.MP->b.FP->Special, unsure if RH tatsu or FP SRK is the higher damage special.
Momochi found a bit more damage than either for 1 bar with doing cr.MP->b.MP->b.FP->V-Skill->cr.Jab->LK Tatsu->EX DP. My combo was doing about 30% so maybe 35-40% with a jump or from a st. RH counterhit starter.
His jabs lead to FP SRK which means he gets about 20-25% from his jabs currently, I couldn’t link anything from st. jab but no training mode so no one knows if he has a better combo off it currently.
His V-Trigger activation can lead to a full combo, so cr. MK->Fireball->V-Trigger Activation is in the realm of 50%+ damage currently for 1 EX meter. Combo is cr.MK->Fireball->V-Trigger Activation->cr.MP->b.MP->st.FP->LP DP->EX DP. Likely V-trigger will be his big damage starter, it and super might get close to Ryu’s 80%+ combos but see Ken getting closer to 65-70% if if he uses both. Super has decent range and it deals 35-40% on its own so any combo into it is big damage.
Momochi did a jab link in the video posted earlier in the thread. Here it is again, skip to 4:31.
Momochi links st. jab into the target combo(with st. MP being the next button obviously). I thought Capcom would balance things by giving Ryu all the cool links from st. jab while Ken’s would reach further and be better for chain canceling into DP, but being unable to confirm it into a link. But that doesn’t look like the case from the video. I’m guessing he won’t be able to link it into cr. HP or sweep like Ryu can so that his st. Jab won’t be too good. But at least we know it can do that much.
If anything giving Ken the links from st.lp makes more sense for his character, he’s the one with fast offensive approach and so he needs links that give him access to damage to accommodate that. If you can go cr.lk st.lp then it will be good as a hit confirm into things. Downsides are that we don’t know if it hits all crouchers and if it goes into anything that can go into damage from mid-range because his TC is kinda short ranged, Ken’s normals in general seem short.
Cr lk st lp isn’t a true block string. Also, with the current damage scaling, this would greatly reduce Ken’s damage output. Best way to hit confirm right now seems to be his cr mp. You have enough time to react if it connects and you can link the TC on hit. So you can do cr mp ->TC -> lk tatsu -> hp src for some really nice meterless damage.
Yep. His gut punch b. MP-> into his axe kick b.RH. It hurts like hell, happened in the ‘beta’ they had recently and then tried it in training mode. It hurts like hell.
It definitely does, SFV looks amazing so far But yes indeed, we had great times. The memories… the feels
The forward grab is pretty brutal haha, but yeah, step kick and the throw were some of Ken’s best tools in SFIV… interested in seeing what tool of his shine in this game.
At 15:39 you see Ken do what appears to be a run dp. I thought people said it didn’t work, but it sure looks like it here.
Also, I assume you can cancel Ken’s v skill from his target combo? If so, could Ken do:
Low strong, target combo xx v-skill, stand jab, target combo, fireball, v-trigger, low strong, target combo, jab dp, ex dp. The only reason this would not work is if stand jab has too much start up, or if there’s too much pushback to link the target combo after stand jab. Has anyone tried something like this? Obviously there’s infinite potential here too.
I noticed that Vega’s hair looks a lot better/more natural than Ken’s in his reveal images and trailer, that bodes well for those of us hoping for a redo
I think cr.mk xx hadouken is never a blockstring like in SFIV. In fact I think I saw a ken player get counterhit by another ken’s cr.mk in between at makes range.
In the stream for wso earlier I felt kens hair looked a little different for the better it didn’t look as solid on the select screen and and seemed to have slightly more detailed.
