Donkey kick could have many interesting uses if implemented. It could knock his opponent far away, allowing him to continue zoning in peace. It could cause wall bounce by the corner allowing devastating combo follow ups. It could be a nice combo ender due to its long range. It could cause a ton of chip damage.
Anyways this is the Ken thread, discussion of Donkey should be in the Ryu discussion.
Donkey kick (outside of EX) was the best way to get damage either as an extended âpokeâ beyond Ryuâs normal range, and faster than fireball, also it could hit crouching players when comboâd into. But it was unsafe on block, and would have to retain that drawback to be balanced in SF5. And it seems like most characters so far could punish you hard even without a super stocked. So yeah doesnât seem like thereâd be much point to it since Ryuâs MK tatsu hits crouching now.
I wouldnât mind Dash Cancel coming back as an extension of Ryuâs V-Trigger. FADC in SFIV was almost made for Ryu it felt like, so seeing that return for him would be cool.
So he has gone all El Fuerte now? Makes him too flashy. I don´t like that and it makes me respect Ken less as a character. Outfit & hairstyle looks good though, find out recently that his hair is dyed?! Why?! Let him have the same color as his eyebrows.
I think Ryu is fine the way he is. Heâs meant to be a very basic character which players entering the series can use with relative ease. I wouldnât mind the donkey kick, but itâs not a deal breaker if they donât implement it. I DO think he needs a little bit of a wardrobe change though. Something similar to gouken like thisâŚ
That was a great breakdown of Ken from Max. Thanks for sharing because Iâd forgotten to check his channel. He of all people will be thrilled with the way Ken is in this game.
Need to add him to the list of players that feel Ryu is now underwhelming.
Agreed. A very simple addition like that beard would be more than enough if they kept everything else the same.
I really want to see some clarification on his V-Skill and Fake Kick command normal. I want to know if you have to press MP+MK again during his V-Skill run to get his step kick or if itâs an automatic thing. We also donât have consistent info on whether step into over head and fake is done with f+RH or f+Forward.
Iâm wondering that as well, Iâd really dislike if it was another MP+MK input after the run starts, itâd just be awkward on my hands. Iâd prefer a F+MK or something during the run.
According to maxâs video, ftk and ttk (fake/true thunder kick f+hp) works the same way as sf3/sf4. If you hold hp, you do the fake to; and if you tap it, you do the true tk.
I could be wrong, but in one of the clips shown in maxâs breakdown, ex tatsu was shown to crossup. Only 1 hit connected and Ken was pretty close to Ryu before he jumped and did it.
