Ken G'eneral Discussion Thread (Frame Data, Techniques, Combos, and etc.)

Ken’s DP damage…

Light - 80
Medium - 130
Fierce - 150
EX - 180

Light dp lets you juggle… L.SRK H.SRK = 230 damage.

Tatus Damage is way down from SFIV, probable because HK Tatsu is one of the best tag switch moves and EX allows you to combo after.

I think all overheads cause ground bounce on OH in this gave…

I just got hit with an unblockable online against my Zangief: neutral throw, whiff sweep for timing, jump fierce. Looked super easy. Who else does this work on?

He’s referring to sf x t I think…

No neutral throws in sf4.

Peace,

G.

Good point, definitely should of gone to the SFxT Ken forum instead of here. x_x

Wat?

Thanks Ikaru, always good to get some info. I’ve been testing the setup against Gief I mentioned and I haven’t been able to reproduce it as an unblockable, just a setup that beats reversal lariat and whiffs over ex hand. Not sure if I just wasn’t blocking right in that match or if maybe there’s a timing I’m missing.

No problem, gotta keep the good reputation the Ken forums have alive by being useful to anyone that needs info. =P The timing for unblockables is like looking for perfection if you ask me. From the distance you walk back to the timing of the jump and when you hit fierce. Literally frames can make all the difference. It’s annoying but fuck if it ain’t useful as hell against characters with an uppercut. Glad I could help, did you try delayed lariats instead of of reversal lariat to beat the setup you created?

Yup, delayed lariats beat it.

Sorry David. When you used the wording “neutral throw”, I assumed that you were talking about sf x t.

Ken doesn’t have a neutral throw in sf4. If you don’t press a direction as you press throw, you just get his forward throw, so I just assumed you were talking about sf x t, where Ken DOES have a neutral throw again.

Again, sorry for the confusion…

Peace,

G.

No big deal, but people have been alternating between forward and neutral for the non-back throw for over three and a half years. Anyway, thanks for the vid.

Not in the Ken forum. That’s why I misunderstood you…

Yo, on my blocked Fierce Shoryuken FADC [First hit] am I safe? I understand on hit it is a 1 frame link and I wanted to know if It is the same on block?

Hi everyone,

Talking about SFxT I was playing it these days and since the first day I had this idea that Ken is very slow compared with his SF4 version. And I was thinking the same about Ryu. But yesterday I decided to play a litte with Ryu just for curiosity on the training room and for my surprise SFxT Ryu is pretty much the same of SF4 Ryu. A better version of SF4 Ryu in fact.

Ken is so laggy, his SF4 links doesnt work and in my opinion his only good things in this game is the Ex Tatsu that gives him +5 on hit and his hit confirm using strings finishing with hadouken. Like far c.MK->hadouken. In this game his hadouken always hit after c.MK. But just those modifications.

Ken’s far jab is 4 frames on startup now. Thats bad. And I think that his c.jab just give him +3 on hit so you cant link it to c.MK that is 5 frames now on startup. We dont have kara and we dont have the old links. The air tatsus still good, but they changed the trajectory too. What about his walkspeed and dash? He is so slow. What they did to Ken? Man…

You can play Ken? Yes, you can, but keep in mind that he is a laggy version of SF4 Ken with no big improvements. Why would you play Ken when you have Ryu in this game? Ryu is so damn good, he is flashy, his hadouken cancels after every normal move, his new special move (that kick that capcom brought back), his air tatsu that gives him a free juggle, his c.HP that starts at 4 frames, etc. He has so many good tools and the most important thing: His links stiil the same. He can do pretty much all SF4 combos, included Ken’s strings. Like: c.LK, cLP, s.LP, c.MK -> Shoryuken/Tatsu. He looks like Ken with safe blockstrings and more knockdown tools. Thats ridiculous.

Im really considering drop this game and start to play KOF in the meanwhile. Until Capcom rebalance it and maybe give Ken his old combos from SF4. If that dont happen, Im dropping it. In fact Im one of the few players here that had hope and is still playing it. Everybody here bought and sold it afterwords sayning that this game is bad, broken/unbalanced and noob friendly.

Is it just me or do you guys are enjoying the game and the new Ken?

Peace.

Wrong place to discuss SFxT Ken but, general consensus would agree with you. The only saving grace Ken has over Ryu is tag cancelling during Tatsu and safe tag cancel from f.srk on block. So there’s pros and cons to both, I definitely feel like Ryu outshines Ken…once again. Unless we play AE(not 2012) or 3S, Ken will never be equal or better than Ryu.

Lol he’s top tier man(churros)… I would venture to say you probably just need to research the game better and learn how to utilize all new features. You are right, not the same game.

First hit is -3 on block and the second hit is -1.

Street Fighter II and I

Thanks! but does that mean I am at an advantage? In other words if I time my attack correctly after does that mean I can be hit or thrown out of my attack still?

You can be punished by anything with 3 frames of start-up or less at point blank

Also most of the cast can’t anti air his air tatsu and ken still gets the most damag off an air tatsu compared to rest of shotos

Can we please get back on topic. No more SF x T in this forum please!!!

Just a quick note I’ve found.

I believe I may have found a new piece of info to help in the Ryu match up.

Ken can avoid Ryu’s lp DP and mp DP after all his tatsu’s (not new, I know), but because Ryu can’t FADC his fierce DP, this has become a much bigger gamble for Ryu now and a much smaller risk for Ken.

By backdashing after a tatsu, Ken can get a full punish if Ryu tries to FADC a DP or eat a single hit from his fierce DP.

No longer can Ryu land DP to ultra on us after a tatsu combo.

I see this as a significant change to this match up in Ken’s favour.

Thoughts?

Peace,

G.
