Keits All-Brawl Rules, Updated, skisonic Approved. Use these at items events

Are you the guy who keeps posting comments on my youtube about needing 5-6 stocks for items play?

You are aware of the game’s ‘rubberband balancing’, are you not? There are quite a few features in the game that favor the player who is losing, the effects of which increase the more stocks you are behind. Considering this, the MOST fair match possible is 1 or 2 stocks, as no one is ever behind enough to see these issues ‘even it back out’.

Its pretty clear who the better player is in 2 stocks. If its more, we just have to watch one guy get beat in the same ways for longer. In the longer set, you still get to see that, but you get to see it on different stages and you get to see the score/lives reset more often, so the losing player has a chance to make a dent. I’m sorry you don’t like short, exciting matches, but you are free to run your own set of rules wherever you please.

Yes, I am that guy. But I talked about 4 - 5 stock matches. Not 6!

I don’t agree that you can see who is the most skilled in a 2 stock match. There are many skilled players who are very close and tactics developed during the battle can make the difference. Don’t tell me that what happens in 2 minutes of fight will repeat over and over in the same way… are you listening to yourself? Would you keep fighting in the same way like and idiot?

I agree when you talk about variety and reseting the stocks, etc. That’s ok with me.

I don’t see what is your problem with people far behind having a chance to comeback. With items in play comebacks are more likely to happen and that is exciting. You can get a couple of maxim tomatoes, or have some smashballs going for you and you can suddenly win if your opponent is not careful. Do you know that in Game Design the fact that a player loosing has more chance to come back is part of dynamic balance? There is nothing wrong with that. The fact that a comeback is possible makes a 3 to 1 stock difference still exciting to watch… we still don’t know how it can end!

Before going on with this I want to know if we can discuss your rules or you don’t want anyone to criticize them or try to help modify them… I am no troll.

I can see you are a person who don’t like your rules criticized. “You can host your own tournament with your rules” . It this a way to shut me up and end this discussion? What is this thread for? I think you should open your mind a little bit. I don’t think I hold the truth of truths but you seems to be too sure of your arguments to listen to anyone.

I am happy to play in any ruleset, provided ive already traveled to the tournament. Telling me to open my mind is both absurd and pretentious. These are the rules that I’ve spend time developing and testing. You can discuss them, but don’t expect them to change because someone from my youtube has been saying he likes longer matches for the last few months. I get it, you don’t like 2 stocks. I do. I have good reasons in-game to want to keep the matches short, too, as noted in the rules. You have reasons you prefer longer matches that I do not believe are true, based on my experience with the game. Agree to disagree.

I say again, feel free to alter these rules in any which way you want when running your own event. After all, the only person who gets a final say in any rules at any event are the event directors. Read up on how to run a double elimination bracket, show up at a smash event, and run your version of items-brawl on the side. Just be sure to record it for youtube. (which is another reason for 2 stock 3 minutes, you can save replays easily to be sent to someone who can capture and upload them, so long as they dont hit sudden death.)

I mean you no disrespect, and I appreciate the support.

Ok, peace. I am sorry if I posted the 4-5 stock in many videos ( I think it was 3, not that much, any other was not me ) . I just couldn’t stand to watch battles so short. I wanted to discuss, not that you change things because I say so. I respect that you have developed these rules with lots of effort. Maybe I am not used to it and that is a considerable part of it. Still, I hope you think about what you said about a player beating the crap out of another over an over in a longer match. That argument is unreal. :arazz:

For the purpose of increasing the joy of watching this matches, I humbly suggest and ask that you upload the whole battle (3 to 5 rounds) in one single video. Maybe that way mechanics and the impression it gives to non-item players (too quick and random) gets better. And at the same time we don’t have to be clicking for a new video each 1 to 3 minutes (its a little annoying). I mean, some people may just click one video, then see a quick match that could end in 1 minute because of powerful items. Then, he won’t even click the second video and he will say… All-Brawl is trash and never again watch or support it. That’s the reason for my advice.

I will surely host my own tournaments. Even if they are small and with friends only. I will record them and analyze the outcome with the community. :china:

The problem is that youtube only lets me upload a 10 minute video, so unless the set ends in 3 matches, it wont be possible to upload them in one file. On top of this, it actually takes a lot of my personal time and effort to both capture, label, and upload these for you guys. It would take even longer if I added a very long new step to this process, in which I had to actually edit what i captured into as-close-to-10-minutes-per-file-videos as possible.

I have a lot of jobs and a lot of hobbies, and this is only one of them.

BTW keits I thought to even out the 2 stock thing you made the matches 3/5 rounds or something, I mean, which was part of the reason why random luck doesn’t matter.

Plus 2 stock matches even with items still last over 2 minutes seriously, guys, even without items brawl is a pretty slow game, stock wise.

*on this I don’t know how many times I go to different groups and they have 5 stock on no items, for me this is absurd cause even FFAs with 5 stock last for at least 10 minutes, and thats with the absurd gimps, and odds are someone got cheesed out in under 6 minutes which means they will be watching aka not playing for at least 4 minutes proably more.

Two stock works great.

3stock 2/3 matches
2stock 3/5 matches

all in all its just a matter of preference. But I do believe the second one is best for items.

Windows Movie Maker allows you to join videos in an easy way. And… think that what you lost doing this you save it in labeling videos . I think it would take less. Joining three videos < labeling three videos instead of one .

In FFA it is nice to have let’s say 4 stocks so sometimes someone dies quickly you an have a 3 FFA or a 1 vs 1 with 2 stocks each one.

I go with 3 stock 3/5.

3 player FFA is a nightmare, if their are 2 fast dodging spam whores, and you are someone with a slow dodge roll you are so doomed its not even funny.

lol 3 stock 3/5, yeah normally for like final 4, but normally among my friends we have the counter pick stages set out so well, that the first round is by far the most important.

The problem here is that you just recommended that somebody use Windows Movie Maker, and that’s not something I would bestow on even the people I most hate.

And he’s already stated here, the problem is that the maximum length of a movie he can upload is 10 minutes, the matches from a 3/5 set are too long to put in 1 youtube video.

Never recommend using Windows Movie Maker again. Ever.

Some friends and I tried out Brawl with items and it makes the game infinitely more appealing to me. Everyone enjoyed it more except for one person who is a hardcore Melee player, but even he didn’t hate it. Keep in mind though I don’t play Brawl that much, only on rare occasion. Even viewing some of the match vids on youtube seemed more exciting than non-item Brawl. Congrats on challenging whats out there and coming up with a better and more fun alternative imo.

This.

It DOES take a long time to join video files together. Its not just slapping them together in the menu and clipping off the bits you dont need of character and stage selection, dude. You have to re-encode the entire thing. Yeah. You don’t just click save then quit. You hit encode, and you wait for 6-12 minutes between every single one.

Again, that may not seem like huge time to you, but I’m an adult male with a live-in girlfriend, a fulltime+ job, and more than a few hobbies. It just isnt worth the extra time for me to do that when all YOU have to do is click the next video. (which takes, oh, i dont know, 4 seconds?)

Hahahahahaha  Hey, It’s no that bad! I’ve use it to do simple things… I know you can just upload 10 minutes, but there are many matches I see that last 2 minutes, or 3. If the whole set can be put in one video, good, if not, well the rest can go in another video.

Ok, I can take 4 seconds to click the next video. A person new to All-Brawl system may not do so. But ok, I understand your reasons.

I guess my feeling is this: A person who can’t spare 4 seconds to click the next video probably can’t spare the hours and dollars it takes to appear at a tournament anyway, so its inconsequential.

whoa, harsh! Keits you are a really cool guy I wouldn’t expect this from you. I really apologize about my comments, I’m way too hard on myself and I tend to make things sound a lot worse than they really are. I’m not hating on All-Brawl, I’m hating on my own performance. I said it was a huge mistake because I played terribly and couldn’t pick up the pace when it mattered. I would never complain about an entry fee lol, what the heck.

I thought you knew me better than that, I even came to the IRC chat a few months ago just to give All-Brawl a try and play matches with you so I can experience it first-hand.

But thanks for taking it the wrong way and making me look like a huge jerk lol. jk, no hard feelings

Being the extreme purist that I am, I just don’t think all-Brawl is my cup of tea. But I am glad that I gave a try.

… yeah, totally not hatin’ on All-Brawl.

If you would have joined SWF a tad earlier…

You would realize 56k treats everything like a joke.

I mean, he basically says ‘‘It’s a joke’’ on every posts he makes.

looks at SWF join date April 2002…

Whatever.

I actually wasn’t talking just about the “it’s a joke”, but the whole contradicting “I’m glad I gave it a try” vs. “I definitely regret doing so”. Seems a bit like politician speak, if you ask me.

You know what I mean…

lol I’m stupid.

56k is like that. Just don’t mind him. He can say he wants to ban MK on a page and then change opinions on the next. He still has a great and intelligent mind… He just won’t use it most of the time.
