Will do, thanks for the support guys. For the record, Evo rules were a joke, but the tournament itself proved a lot of things that needed to be proved to move forward, so it was a good step.
EDIT - To clarify, they were not a joke because of what the rules actually were… they were a joke because they were an attempt at compromise that was totally rejected by one side of this debacle.
Is completely true, quite a bit of the smash community is ignorant to the idea of items and the full stage roster.
Im speechless, that some ppl really understand that it takes just as much skill (if not more) to play in a more difficult environment. Goodbye old tiers. Bring on the new. Ken can just cry…
I would like to say that Kirby’s good at using beam-sword like items, but usually when I get them I end up throwing them at people.
The reason I do this is because if it hits (or even if they perfect shield it) I always catch the rebound and end up throwing it 3-4 times. People hate me for it, but it looks hella cool.
And goddamnit I said inb4 anyone calling me not awesome Cambriel
Jigglypuff is one of the characters with a fan swing that hits behind them and has a pretty good attack speed. She generally has decent speed on melee weapons but I’d need to experiment to see just how well she compares to others.
Also, I’ve noticed people who didn’t use Captain Falcon in Melee seem to be the ones who like him the most and use him the best in Brawl.
For Jigglypuff using melee weapons- her swing is actually pretty decently fast and has higher priority than her ground normals. She always swings overhead, so she can hit above and behind her. Seeing as she’s always best off in the air, I think it’s better for her to reserve any melee items that are not the Fan (since her having one can lead to a KO) for throwing at a convenient time in the air.
I read the thing on the front page or SRK and me and a friend did some All-Brawl friendlies to try it out. It was fun. Some shenanigans went on but nothing too upsetting. I run tournaments in SoCal and might ask some of the players to try it out and maybe we can get a crowd for it on another day. It’s nice having a different format for the game that is still 1v1 that makes the game refreshing again. Adds more replay value.
Good luck with that. Hope you find a more welcoming crowd than those that tried to run items before Evo did in SoCal. They aren’t exactly the warmest crowd to change.:lame:
Thanks for the support! Let me know if you have any questions or need anything. Just be sure there is at least SOME money on the line when running these (charge 3-5 dollars for entry), otherwise people just screw around. We want to see people really playing to win, abusing every possible tactic and eeking every possible advantage to get that money.
Lobelia - “Keits chose himself” - I was approached by Jammar to do that interview for the front page. I had nothing to do with the inception of the article, it was his interest. I have yet to bring a single smash story to the front page of SRK. Just FYI.
Oh. I didn’t know that, and I also didn’t know that it was on the front page of SRK since I never, ever, EVER look at the front page of SRK. My bad.
Edit: I really shouldn’t take part in the All-Brawl debate on SWF. I may not agree with the way you conduct yourself sometimes, Keits, but I support you and I have the utmost respect for what it is you do. I don’t think you need to be defended on SWF, because they’ll just talk down to you and call you a scrub for no good reason, just like little miss bold blue text from a page or so back. Their ignorance will never cease to infuriate me, and honestly, I don’t want to be part of the debate anymore. I’m not going to oppose them. I’m just going to support you, and support All-Brawl, as best I can.
Look for All-Brawl at Impact Clash III. I’ll run it no matter what.
I’ll definitely save replays. From there, I’ll see what I can do. As an update, I just posted the proposal an hour ago and I already have three people(counting myself) who are slated to enter.
Keits. with all my respects… I really like the All-Brawl philosophy. But I think some rules are ruining the competitive aspect of it, more than helping it. What I am referring to is to the length of the match. Two stocks is just … wrong. Every round seems so… luck based. You say you solve the problem of people waiting for the smash ball, etc. When there are so many deadly items in play … waiting for them with such few stocks is the same as waiting for them with more stocks on a longer match. The weight of skill is seeing over randomness and item use/avoid in a 4-5 stock match. And matches have an appropriate length. If what you say is true about waiting for an item I need to win , then you should get a formula to determine a right amount of time based on stock quantity, and have longer rounds. It could be 2 of 3 matches to keep the counterpick thingy. You should at least try. I read your rules and I saw many matches and I tell you… much people won’t be attracted to a competition where battles seem so short, unflavored and luck-based.
Sorry, my friend, no can do. 2 stocks 3 minutes 3 out of 5 is staying. Quick, high pressure matches are much favored at a multigame event over disturbingly long ones. Even 3 stock 8 minutes 2/3 in no-items seems to drag on.
You have to understand, 2 stocks is 2 out of 3 rounds. Its no more than more fighting games give you to ‘show your skill’. It won’t matter how long or short the match is, ‘luck based’ rounds a so few and far between as it is, and they only become less common as you become more practiced with items play. AlphaZealot even says that a good player will win 95% of the games he felt he should. In 3 out of 5, you have a 1 in 20 chance, then, of losing one game to ‘dumb luck’, then a 1 in 400 chance of losing 2 games in the same set to ‘dumb luck’, and then a staggering 1 in 8000 chance to lose the entire set to ‘dumb luck’.
I appreciate your support, but these are the official All-Brawl rules, as they are working wonderfully. If you did read the original post, however, you’d see that I encourage you to run your own variation, so that we can get this format out there. Just avoid banning anything if possible, as that doesnt help people learn to overcome what they feel is ‘unfair or broken’.
So if YOU run your own items event, run longer matches with more stocks if you want. Just record em and get em on youtube.
That’s is something I cannot do yet (to host a tournament myself). I am giving my thoughts on your rules. You say it is working wonderfully… hmm… strange… About what you say… You cannot compare smash to other fighting games… Smash is too different. Among many other things (like wide free movement and environment strategy) in those other games there are not items that can determine the outcome of the match so quickly (a match with so few stocks)… Such boosts of power an item gives you can kill with a 70% chance (example, a final smash like LandMaster) . In a match with more stocks a life lost is not something too critical, but in a 2 stock one is really heavy. We need to see more matches online. What I’ve seen so far… is not exciting to me… sorry. I really love Item play but your rules makes competitive playing something that seems quick and shallow.
