Keiji Inafune has resigned from Capcom and will leave at the end of the month

I blame SF4

D:

Saw him at New York Comic Con. Very cool person and will always have my respect for his hand in Mega Man’s creation. But he did a lot of bad things during his tenure.

Final Fight Streetwise - The team wanted to bring Akiman into the project. Inafune felt that it was a game that Capcom of Japan could make themselves, so he forced them to go the route they did and when he didn’t like the direction it was going he rushed the project out of the door.

Dark Void, Bionic Commando 2 and Lost Planet 2 were all flops under his reign and once again attempts to westernize Capcom games for more money. Meanwhile games not under his watch, Sengoku Basara and Monster Hunter flourished and kept Capcom out of the red.

I do agree with him that there is a severe lack of innovation for Japanese developers nowadays, but here’s the thing. Japan still knows how to make games that cater to Japan and otaku or fans of Japanese culture that live in other regions. America is learning, or has learned you can say how to make games that appeal to us, something Japan isn’t always good at. And Americans spend way more money on video games now. So I understand his reasoning.

Seth said before one time on a very early MVC3 related podcast to settle concerns about Capcom westernizing that even if Capcom tried go go western it wouldn’t work. A lot of people at Capcom still have no idea how Americans think. One developer stepped up to Seth one time and said, “Wow people in America like Mega Man?” Seth said this to ease a lot of worries about Capcom changing their philosophy and nothing more but there’s so much truth in this really. Even when you hire foreign developers and so forth if it stems from this area it’s possible that you might have problems.

Still I wish him all the best in his future endeavors. He still executive produced SF4 and SSF4 so he definitely had some impact on bringing the fighting genre back for a lot of us. So his tenure wasn’t all bad.

Now someone change Dante back or reveal that ‘Donte’ is his son or something man it’s not too late!

Infune needs to be down there doing the dirty work to shine.
He sucks when he’s in charge.

Inafune Keiji… is DEAD.

thank the lawd!

Please get Clover and Hideki Kamiya’s ass back at CAPCOM.

No doubt the Devil May Cry reboot was the final nail in the coffin for him. I respect him for the games he collaborated in the past but he completely lost it this generation.

Damn, wonder what is going to happen with Megaman after Legends 3 and Universe are out.

You dumb.

We all know he hated his job, but the only thing he’s looked forward to in the past 10 years is getting to make MML3, and now that it was finally greenlit he abruptly quits.
That doesn’t speak well of MML3’s development.

you mad.

browsed Gaf and found that there is a team taking over Inafune’s spot…among them Jun Takeuchi

Speaking of Mega Man Legends 3, it’s kind of funny, ironic and messed up all at the same time that his happens just before Inafune’s design for the new heroine of MML 3 came in dead last with the least amount of votes.

think sonic the hedgehog…

Did she not look enough like a scruffy space marine?

I didn’t vote for her lol! I went with the Mega Man Zero artist since the Zero series has my favorite artwork in the MM franchise. But Inafune admitted himself he doesn’t have a lot of time to draw nowadays so he rushed his design.

I’d post a link of the results but linking to Capcom’s site is always hit or miss with me so I don’t bother. Check Capcom-unity’s blog page for the results and different designs if anyone doesn’t know what I’m talking about.

Good riddance, hopefully somebody more positive takes over.

Fucking finally. Dude did do some good work back in the day, but he was ruining Capcom in the present.

Bout fucking time. Maybe we’ll get a Mega Man game that isn’t Mega Man 2 part 70.

It’s cause it was on DS, I’d quit too if they were gonna jack my baby up like that. Then again, if it was his idea to do that, then maybe it was Capcom that was tired of him.

The whole TGS 2010 shit didn’t help either, it was incredibly shortsighted of him to say those things, and basically shit all over the dev community as well as his own company.

Inafune had no eye for truth if he thought Ninja Theory made good games.

He was integral to some of Capcom’s biggest titles and for that I respect what he did. But he lost his damn mind at the end there and nearly became another Itagaki (aka outspoken just for the sake of being outspoken as opposed to delivering a real message). I mean, some of the stuff he says has some merit but he took things way too far with others. I guess ultimately that’s why he decided it was time to go. Hope he finds a company that’s a good fit for him.

And saying Japan is 5 years behind yet he thinks every megaman game should be like Mega Man 2 cause he has an unhealthy obsessions with it.

ridiculous.

How come nobody jumped on Kojima’s ass when he said Japanese developers were 5 years behind, like 6 years ago…?
