Karin General Thread: Elegant offense for a more civilized age

Can someone explain what is up with her GUREN moveset. What do the different moves do and why does it seem like you don’t have to hold down at all. Just spamming P gives me the punch + crossover

Her Guren move set is her rekka, follow up with a punch gives you the standard 3 hit, what you are seeing with the cross up is hitting D p D p after the initial 2 hits. there are a few other combinations in there but you have to hit the initial rekka qcf punch to start the sequence.

Loving the execution required to play her. It’s nothing spectacular after having played Melee and anime fighters, but it’s refreshing compared to the rest of the cast.

You’re getting the crossup because you’re holding down + punch.

c.MP, c.MK, qcf+K~P, qcfK~P seems like the go to bnb if you can hit confirm and get the execution down. Solid damage and stun for meterless and works well off cross up.

I actually played Karin once earlier and hoo boy is that overhead rainbow palm dirty right now. It won’t necessarily be good later, I’m sure people will get used to it. but right now you could probably scrub out 100 wins with that. Don’t do the followup, people are looking for it. Just do nothing.

Think about if cammy’s c. mk xx drill was safe at all ranges. That’s what it is like. Test people and see if they’ll punish you. Maybe throw out the followup sweep just once in a while.

This won’t last for long, but right now it’s funny.

Well, thanks but that’s the thing, what do you get from doing qcf.P -> P -> P with no direction? I get the same move, but the command list tells me I should be holding down.

How do you perform the backdash that I hear she has in her rekka moveset, and which one in the command list does that refer to?

Back dash is just kick itself with no direction after rekka

Rainbow Palm, QCB+P

Okay, basic combo theory. In the corner you always want to do a launcher to VSkill or LK Upkicks into EX RP unless you’re blowing super. It adds a lot of damage (~80). Outside of the corner you want to confirm into LP RP for the Slide knockdown as it puts you in a way better position for continuing your pressure. EX Upkicks has great corner carry but barely adds any damage or stun so I’m not a huge fan of blowing the meter there. Her CA adds 150-200 damage to a combo which I think is really worthwhile when you get it.

Rekka notes: you can do full juggles for max damage by doing the down punch followup into cross up against airborne foes; something like st.hp xx EX Shoulder is good for max damage there. You barely lose any damage doing a Slide instead of a Palm ender so do that. Her RP in Rekka links to st.lk which can then cancel into LK Upkicks or Just Frame Launcher (JFL). Probably her CA as well.

Also, I think I need to go back and test doing more JFLs; I think they will make your juggle damage better than going into HK Upkicks in all situations, especially if you combo two of them together as they’re 80 a pop and LK Upkicks is only 70 damage.

I could only get EX Shoulder off heavies and it only seems useful for Rekka juggles as they’re airborne pretty much immediately. EX Launcher does 40 damage over JFL which isn’t enough to make it useful in my book outside of any intrinsic properties that the EX Command Dash has.

Getting anything but a sweep off her CCH is a pain in the ass.

Actually it’s possible to do qcf k~p, qcf k crouching p for more damage, but it’s pretty damn tight. I also assume you can super off it like when you do two qcf k~p’s.

Also, the cr.mk cancel window is pretty damn long, you can hitconfirm ala 3S into the launcher. Overall she’s damn solid

Damn, I was gonna post that combo lol. Beat me to it lol.
In any case, you can also combo into launcher outside of V-Trigger and then activate V-Trigger and do the same Guren Ken->Elbow->Crossover Shoulder Juggle into Super. It’s a tight juggle, but it’s doable.

Yeah, that’s basically what I’ve been doing, except doing the shoulder instead because of the higher damage/stun and corner carry, although I’m sure JF launcher x2 gives better grant advantage.

Her specials are hilarious right now, people don’t understand her yet.

Kinda like how I can just tap buttons with Mika and get fraud wins, hard to really gauge chars atm and see what’s good in honest play.

So you can definitely jab her after blocking her overhead palm before the sweep. Did it several times against a Karin player that kept doing it. Blocking the palm and doing s. lp xx special is a guaranteed punish every time.

I’m having a hard time comboing cr.mk when I special cancel. I don’t understand d what I’m doing wrong.
