You can also CA after Ressenha,I find it useful against forever crouch blocking opponents, especially after a blocked st.mp because most of them are waiting for an upcoming Orochi or a punishable JFT. St.mpxx LP Ressenha will combo, even st.HPxx MP Ressenha too. A bit risky, but good to know if you force the opponent to block low most of the time.
That’s a good point. Idk. Maybe the wake up times are different? I rarely use either, but I prefer Resshu slightly over Kusabi because I find when it whiffs, ppl don’t know what to do lol and it goes unpunished. Whereas Kusabi is obvious and very easily punished.
What are my best options after a blocked Orochi? I’ve been practicing Karin’s basic hit confirm combo and I can pull it off pretty consistently now but I don’t know what’s the best thing to do after the blockstring.
that’s pretty awesome. I always used it sorta randomly to close a gap, but never realized it could be used like this. I thought I just avoided fireballs a couple times, but didn’t realize it had that much use.
Nothing. Orochi is -2 on block so you lose all momentum and advantage. If you find that your opponent presses buttons after it ALL THE TIME you can do blocked orochi into ex ressen to call them out on it, but it’s pretty risky. Either that or block what they do afterwards. Orochi is a safe blockstring ender but it gives away the momentum.
I like to throw it out early in the round and then follow it up with her 3f jab just to see what my opponent does, if I get counter hit then I know I’m giving up advantage anytime I use it. Otherwise, you may find that your opponent isn’t pressing the right button to take back tempo
well I have decided to pick up Karin as a secondary the bnb’s seem to be
c.mp, s.mp xx JFL, lk.mujin (227 / 340)
c.mp, c.mk xx JFL, lk.mujin (218 / 340)
My questions
What tools does she have in footsies? Best pokes?
Her dash goes through fireballs ?
Block strings ?
Coming from Chun li it feels so strange throwing mediums out for hit confirms. To me she seems very meter intensive how true is this ? How do I open people up? Are there any non beta guides out ?
Best Pokes- Max Range Sweep is hard for most characters to punish and is a great poke in footsies. Her V-Skill is also good if the opponent is playing a grounded game or midscreen fireball game and you train them not to jump. stMK and stLK are her best pokes and counter pokes overall and are your go to footsie pokes. crMK is also nice and can be buffered into JFT or HK Mujin. Her walk speed and great poke frame data make her a threat in footsies, especially if you have EX meter for DP to train opponents not to jump in footsie range. stHK is great when you V-Trigger, but it’s unfortunate that you can’t capitalize properly from max range crush counter without VTrigger.
EX Dash goes through fireballs. Dash into Orochi goes through fireballs and can be used if you have a read on the opponents timing( and isn’t that bad of an option to get in if you dont whiff it -2) only.
Check out her frame data for block strings. Basically you can hit as many buttons as much as you can with her frame data and mix up your frame traps between lights, HPs, MPs and dashes. Get a feel of what she can do and her hit confirms.
Karin isn’t meter intensive and only uses her meter for EX DP and occasional EX dash in neutral. The rest of the meter is only for adding damage/stun.
Honestly, in the long run the only thing that will open people up with Karin is the basic bait/throw/frame trap mix up or crossup/crossunder dash setups and ambiguous DP setups. The rest of her stuff is pretty gimmicky and the people I run long sets with block the Rekka and Special overhead mixups pretty consistently. The basic bait/throw/frame trap set up is not that bad in SF5 with how weak reversals are, and the fact that 1-2 combos + 2 throws probably leads to stun and round.
Mago is the player to watch. He currently plays the optimal combo wise and seems most fundamentally solid. Sako is great but surprisingly doesn’t optimize his combos the way Mago does.
Do the combos you listed to setup her ambiguous cross up. You can also end with another JF Tenko to set up a meaty 5Lk. The optimal damage comes if you end with “instant” Orochi. Also, ending with Orochi will also allow you to setup a meaty
Are there any tips for comboing instant tenko into orochi? I’ve done it a couple times on accident, but most of the time I do the orochi while the opponent is just about to land on the ground but miss.
