It’s funny you mention that Chach, it’s half the reason why I know how to play as Claw to this day. Way back in the mid '90s, there was this dude at Mission Taco( a cheap taco stand/ arcade back home in Tx) who would always dominate with Vega in every game that had him as a playable character (Ironcally enough, he was also quite good with Guile as well). I learned a lot of the more advanced-basics(if that makes sense) by playing against him and picking Claw every so often.
Of course, SFA came out soon after and my fascination with Charlie comsumed me. And thus the road to me learning Charlie/Guile began… The rest is history. I’ve have copius amounts of fun using Charlie/Guile/ and Claw ever since.
So yeah, perhaps I should pick Boxer, Sagat and Akuma once in a while…I’m also thinking of maybe having Guoken as main too. I have a lot of fun playing him when I do.
chachi is right… and i play every… no wait…almost everyone for that very reason… so when you say “pick a main!” you also have to realize that a scrub like me doesnt have a main because i’ve learned 90% of the roster while trying to improve specific weaknesses in my main(s)
since joining srk- ive always looked for friendship and honestly how couldnt you find it? a large group of like-minded people all striving to become better at something they love (not gay sex)
what pisses me off is when people are having a good time and theres that one or two guys that make everything about comp… and it ruins the friendship. if you learned anything from highschool j-dramas, competition gets better and means more when you are competing against a friend.
like when i made the trip to the chachi dome… Ben and i had a friendly moment (no homo) and i finally beat him afterwards (not his main) and my streak went a few more (like 5) but that proves my point. i know to lyquid i was just a punching bag that night, but to me- a social/competitive person- i was just fighting the pc… difficult…emotionless… BORING <lyquid- you can kick my ass for that, hope to see you at chacidome next week, on call this week and cant go>
BUT after joking and getting a lil’ friendly with the wise elder BenRa- the comp stepped up a notch. so much that my 2 goons that came with me had no chance at touching a controller and chaci had to go play hd remix away from this burning competition (or at least thats how i remember it)
EITHER WAY- sorry so long - CHACHI IS MY FRIEND and because of this my NEMISIS
i’m calling you out chachi! MONEY MATCH! i got like 25 cents and need to start saving for big boi jeans like axiom. haha
ryu/el fuerte/Balrog/zang/Vega/Bison/Guile… as in i could put up a top level fight {my skill level} with those chars (followed by the rest or the cast as back up) also, the names are completely inter-changable between ENG and JAP
i understand the dance party thing… about that- i was just seeing if anyone would actually showing up. i mean really its just silly kids anyway. i wouldnt expect say an old timer like BenRa to show up… then again luigi showed and hes 3.3 decades… who knows
but ya- not offended when people on a street fighter board ignore a dance party invite.
Yeah, I figured you would. You were all hyped up last Thursday when you ordered them. I’ll give it a shot next time I’m over. Speaking of sticks, do you still have that other x-arcade dual? The one that looks like this:
Does it still work? If not what needs to be done to it? You mentioned it way back at the robot dance party. Something about it collecting dust and the cabinet wasn’t wide enough for proper 2p usage. I was wondering if you were planning on keeping it. I’d be interested in purchasing it from you, if you don’t mind. Text me when you see this and perhaps we can work something out.
Just a friendly reminder, My birthday party/friendly tourney is this Saturday. If you haven’t already told me you are planning to attend, then please do so by this Friday. I’ll need a head count so I know how much pizza to order.
If it turns out well, I may do another friendly tourney sometime in August.
Damn, it seems we got a rival triangle going now… I’ve considered Jspot my rival(although I never verbalized it) ever since the Grape-a-licious Guile saga of '09. Many hard fought battles, blistered thumbs and hurt wrists went into that saga, Pringles to the max! Lol and the saga has not yet ended!
I agree with Jspot about the friend/ rival thing. Just look at the Ken/Ryu relationship. It’s one of the biggest parts of the SF cannon.
there was another post once about the SF story cannon.
i dunno what the other parts are but i bet if its made by Bison its powered by evil ryu. or sodom’s truck.
I completely understand what Ben is saying. I don’t disagree at all.
The only thing I have to add to it, is that some of us DO take our games seriously. I’ve taken Tekken seriously for years. Before that, Starcraft. The problem is, I am very, very new to SF. When SFIV hit stateside, is the first time I sat down to really learn a SF game. Since then, I’ve been hard at work, and I know my roommate Le has as well. We may be total shit at the game now, but it’s not like we’re deaf to advice. We need comp to get better, and we’re not adverse to traveling for it. (Take our excursion to STL for example. We don’t E-thug on online battles, we don’t talk idle shit, we go to tournaments, we practice, we bust our asses to improve.)
Bottom line, don’t write us off because we’re not at your level yet. We’ll get there in time, and it’ll happen faster with your help. Combo training now, competition later. Believe it.
I can’t say, not having been to one of your hookups yet, but how many people there have the same attitude you do? If there’s 1-4 people there who are just fucking around, well, see above.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve got to make the most of my time. I am better off just playing against 1 or 2 people who are serious, as opposed to 3 people who are serious and 3 who aren’t. It may sound anal to put it that way, but it’s true.
I’m not writing anyone off because of how well they are playing right now. Shit, I’m pretty terrible myself. I’m writing people off who have been at the same skill level since the game came out, and don’t show interest in improving.
Because I like beating a dead horse: the reason picking a main is so goddamned important is that to hit even a basic level in sf4 (or any other fighting game), you need to learn matchups inside and out. That comes from both research and playing. I lost a match at stl because I had literally never played against a decent fei long (I feel I would have beaten him with a little more experience). Part of it can’t be helped, since there are none here to play against, on the other hand I could have sought out someone on srk who plays fei and try and get some matches in online, or paid more attention in the balrog forums when fei came up.
