No, we do not have any 3rd Strike or Guilty Gear arcade cabinets in town. If you’re looking for Marvel competition, post here and camp out at the Powerplay arcade in Shawnee, KS. For the Tekken kids, there is a T5: DR cabinet at the Ameristar casino arcade.
All other games of relevance are reluctantly played on console, until arcade owners around here figure out that there are still people that want to play 2D fighters, and that machine upkeep is indeed a priority.

since I kinda fucked you over last weekend (completely on accident). I’d be willing to come to your place this weekend for some games! So you don’t have to do the unnecessary travelling.
I don’t know if you need it but I’m sure someone would be able to burn you a DVD with a few gigs of match vids on it next time you’re in town… Chris and I generally organize by which character won, so you’re guaranteed at least a few vids of each character.
Also, if Aaron is in town on the 3rd-4th, I would like a walkthrough of the hairpin loop. Seeing it in text doesn’t really help me- I have to be juggled by it a few times to understand the actual timing.
Here’s an update on the games we play at Power Play.
Marvel… Apparently on Friday (before we got there) the monitor broke. They said it was new (and it was I remember when they put it in) and was under warranty so they were getting another one it should be in “in a couple of days” (so by Monday / Tuesday). Now we all know shit don’t move that fast. So I estimate if it truly is on its way then it should be there by Friday. We’ll see. Also there were apparently new sticks put in it a week and a half ago, so those should be good.
#Reload… Yes, I know we are at a point where we really don’t care now because they fucked that over completely. But I did ask about what the fuck happened with it. Here’s what I got:
Me: What ever happend with Guilty Gear?
Old guy who’s fairly cool: (looks around) uhm
Me: It was supposed to be getting a new cabinet, what happened with that?
Dumb ass game tech: It was abandonded.
Me: WTF?!?!!?
Old guy: It never made any money.
Me: That’s because it never fucking worked.
Old guy: Yeah, where did that ever go?
Dumb ass: It’s in the storage room in a junk heap. Because someone who didn’t know what they were doing took it too far apart and now they’re afraid it won’t go back together correctly.
Me: (thinks: dumb ass is the one who fucked it up to begin with, but is trying to blame someone else.)
Old guy: Well, yeah, let’s get it in something so it can try to make some money, since we went through all the trouble to get it, and it was expensive.
Me: Yeah, it’d get played. Long as it works.
Dumb ass: (rolls eyes, continues drinking whatever alcoholic beverage he has)
Old Guy: Anyway, “capcom” should be up and working very soon, looks like it’s KI today then we’ll get that up later this week.
Me: (thinks: I never asked for KI, or KI2)
Alas, that’s how most conversations with them will go. If MvC2 is still broke, we can just play on the almighty DC. I got the sticks, you bring the ass to get whooped :rolleyes: . But seriously, whatever works for me. Krush, you are going to play some slash right? You also need to get ahold of that Novasonic kid, the one I guess plays Venom, and invite him also.
I still play a lot of MvC2. Chaz still plays too but interest has somewhat diminished. Trey, while he still plays doesn’t care at all about it. Of course he never really did care “per se” but now it’s just completely a whatever game. Steve is gone, but even when he was here he stopped playing because he had anger management issues when he lost. Tommy got married and started playing WOW so he vanished off the face of the Earth.
Then there’s the St Joe crew. They still play MvC2. At least I know Cory, Dan, and Mark do. Of them I think only Dan is still “hardcore” about it.
I’ll shoot Nova an IM or email, unless he pops up here first. I’ll give Martin a call as well. If Just Saul pops up again, perhaps they can carpool up here from Manhattan.
Also, my friend Mike plays a little bit of Slash, but he’s out of town for a couple weeks. Maybe I can drag him along to the next gettogether.
Oh, and what are the chances of Team Scandalous making an appearance?
Assuming everybody who can will show up, what time do you want everybody to meet up? I also assume we want to meet up at Powerplay again…
YO PEEPS…WHAT IT IS HOMIESSS!!!.. hehehe… well anyhow it’s finally here… the long 4 day weekend… I invaded Trey’s house about 2 weekends ago…fucking funny shit… hehe…anyhow…i was wondering if we still on for this weekend…i was planning on going there for Fri and Sat… and come back home Sunday…U know me i’ll play whatevers clever… MvC2 sounds good to me and as always some good old Street Fighter action is what i’m about…I haven’t tried Slash yet was hoping to get the crash course from Trey too… well hit me up yo ^^ Peace
And here I pop. Unless you guys are playing tonight I’m probably a no-go, I’m going to a show in Lawrence tomorrow and I have to work Sunday, I work tonight too but I’ll be getting off moderately early, so games would be possible.
I’ll head up to Power Play sometime next week and talk to Dennis (the guy that owns all the games), he liked me when I worked there, so maybe he’ll listen when I tell him to fix the fucking GG cab.
Ask if he can sell off one or both Top Skater units and get some more fighters in that space.
My wish list for Dennis is probably a little big:
-Sell off KI or fix the buttons, since nobody’s playing it.
-Fix the UMK3 buttons (that’s the tech’s job, but he never bothers to check them out).
-Something with Street Fighter 2 in the title, that would bring a lot of people out of the woodwork.
-Slash (yeah right)
-3S (yeah right, unless they can get a good deal on the kit.)
-Torch the half-assed roller-coaster, and make room for more games. The kids like it you say? Fuck em.
Back to reality: I think tonight’s fine for everybody, at least me anyway.
KI2 was Chaz’s request. It’d make more if the buttons worked and it was with the other fighters, instead of with the other games made by that same company.
SF3:3S would be an excellent addition. Only thing, I don’t know how much it would make, but would create pulling power if we were to ever do tournaments again.
Slash - like you said, “yeah right” After the fiasco that was #reload (even though it was all their fault) I bet we never see another Gear at all.
The only other game that would be fucking great to have is CvS2 but, like Slash, this is another “yeah right” situation. Since they had it once, but fell into the same situation as #reload did. It was in a piece of shit cabinet and never made them any money. And like 3S while we wouldn’t necessairily play it, it too would give us more pulling power for tournaments.
Hell if we just had three of any of the popular games we could have a good tournament here. But they keep fucking up so all we got is Marvel. Which I’m quite happy they didn’t fuck that over, but we need more than this old ass game to really matter.
I lobbied like hell for 3s, it never happened, I wouldn’t count on it either since kits are still so expensive. Dennis has no control really over the rest of the attractions and stuff, but I agree totally that the tilt-a-whirl fucking sucks. Unfortunately for us, their main focus is on the kid/family aspect of the place, and I’m honestly surprised they kept MvC2, since it’s mainly people like us that play it, and they don’t seem to care too much about all that. I got the KI machine in there a long time ago, but the only reason I think is because they had one on their route somewhere down at the lake and brought it up, and then they changed it to KI2, which I don’t like nearly as much as the first. They need to scrap half of those games, and fix half of those cabs. Hell I’d go do it myself if I thought they’d let me. Seems like this is about as good as it’s gonna get as far as arcade scenes go around here. Maybe if we all bitch enough though, we can get something else in there, because no offense to you guys, but MvC2 just isn’t my bag, and it’d be nice to have something else to play.
