Kamen Rider fighting game for PS2 - Kamen Rider Climax Heroes

Wikipedia is clearly not a better idea, unless you want yourself big spoilers for 10 seasons of Kamen Rider shows in a row, so it wont be interesting to watch them afterwards. In info I posted, I kept spoilers at minimum.

Jumping in game was done just for its being there, it wasnt done with usual concept where jumping is essential part of evasion and anti-air game, all that hopping over projectiles, empty jump-ins mindgames etc, its not about this game. But on other hand, jumping here is far more advanced than in MKDA-MKD-MKA games, even though those games went “why jump when you can sidestep attacks” too.
As for air attacks, most of them are somewhat basic, breakdown is like this:
-close-ranged air attack, can start combos if done closer to ground
-vertical falling air attack, same
-rider kick (flying kick that moves diagonally down) - can be used to quickly get to distant opponent, plus can be used as runaway tool if you air recovered during opponent’s juggle combo. It homes on opponent’s location unless its not too far
-air projectile; homes on opponent’s location unless its not too close or too far
-something unique that most characters dont have (like Ryuki Survive mid-air dragon summon, Hibiki’s air flame breath that slows falling speed, etc)

To me, probably most important aspect of air attacks in game is the fact that you can do them after air recovery, and you can air recovery during opponent’s juggle combo if you are lifted enough. So basically, falling air attack gives you ability to counterattack opponent in this moment, at risk that you can be yourself attacked (Blade King and Ixa Burst have some strong anti-airs as Support Attacks), and dive rider kick-type air attack gives you means to runaway in air after air recovery

As for shows,
you get 2000 season here (this isnt hardsubbed, and subs that are present need some grammar correction, I did some notes about what means what in those subs while I watched it, can send them if you need)

you get 2001 season here (hardsubbed)

Most shows consist from TV series season, a movie and a TV special

Not A movie dude…try 4 in Den-O’s case…

And Ixa is in Kamen Rider Kiva, correct? I was looking at some clips on youtube, looks awesome. Is Kiva any good, compared to the other series?

Ixa, Saga, Dark Kiva, and Rei and Arc are all Kiva riders.

It’s all about opinion but as far as Heisei goes my favorites in order from best to least are Decade, Kabuto, 555/Faiz, Den-o, Kiva, Kuuga, Hibiki, Blade, Agito then Ryuki.

I wouldnt call Decade “best” like “best to see first” since you should watch it after 9 previous shows (you will get 0 fanservice and alot of questions about heisei rider worlds if you watch Decade first, since it capitalizes on materials from previous 9 shows, being a “crossover” season)

I think shows should be viewed in order they were released, since Agito is undirect sequel to Kuuga, plus you get to see how character/monster designs and CG effects evolved over years. Also, like many people suggest, starting from Kabuto can be a good way to get hooked, it works in similar fashion how Ghost in the Shell series get new people hooked on anime (considering they havent watched anime before).

Since crossover movies, tv specials and storyline kinda link some of the shows, so I think they should be watched by those blocks:
[Kuuga->Agito->Ryuki] [Faiz] [Blade] [Hibiki] [Kabuto] [Den-O->Kiva->Decade->Double]
(different blocks have 0 connection between them aside of Decade being one big crossover that should be watched after previous 9)

My first KR show was Ryuki, but I think Kabuto is important because of its “return to basics” with insectoid costume themes, bigger use of bikes, etc. It shows better what is “Kamen Rider” about. Most of Heisei shows try to experiment and blend in some non-classic theme, like vampire style in Kiva, tons of jokes in Den-O, big shift towards japanese mythos in Hibiki (I mean, Oni demons battling youkai demons in the middle of forest doesnt sounds much like KR formulae).

Personally, I watched shows in this order:
Ryuki, Hibiki, Kabuto, Faiz, Blade (I started Faiz, Blade aand Hibiki while Kabuto series were released, but Hibiki hooked me more, then I finished Faiz, and then took my time to finish Blade, which is famous by being not very good in beginning but great once you pass middle of series or so), Den-O, Kiva, Decade, Kuuga, Agito (last two I didnt picked for a long time thinking they are some old stuff, but Kuuga was ok and Agito was great).

I found about Kamen Rider because I picked Ryuki game for PSX and liked character designs, so I started to search about it, and got to read scenarios for few series in beginning, and I liked it very much, and then I downloaded it on henshinjustice I think, and then tried the others, the next being Hibiki because I love ancient japanese stuff and mythology.

indeed, decade is not the best in almost every sense, especially if a non KR CH player think they will “get” the feel of every rider just by watching decade’s show, people will just get the wrong idea about kuuga and co. when watching it(even the “original” blade and kiva does not have the same personality)

decade is not that great either in depicting what a kamen rider is,since he’s too busy judging and meddling with other rider’s busyness ,most apparent is the use of his bike, which is quite nonexsistant, decade is more of a “kamen walker” instead of a rider, compared to shows like kuuga, agito, and blade(which contains a lot of live bike action scenes),even kabuto and den O has more bike scenes than decade…(and those were already underused)

i follow KR since the showa era (i watched the first KR when i was 4),i have easy access since it was a toku boom at the early 90’s and video stores have old tokusatsu tapes for rent while TV’s shows the more recent ones(super 1 and both BLACK’s)

i watched half of the heisei in TV too, starting from kuuga, ryuki, agito, blade, and faiz(the order is messed up since its not broadcasted on the same TV),they stopped airing after faiz though,as for the newer ones i watched kabuto, den O,hibiki, kiva, and decade in that order(thank to the wonderful internet>.<)

kuuga and blade impresses me the most, while the CG use is really minimal it feels like a true KR show, while several others? not so much…

hibiki and den O are really good as a tokusatsu show and i like them very much, but IMO they are “not quite kamen rider” and i actually dislike the title KR to be put on them, hibiki doesnt even have an exclusive bike(and to tell the truth, the late creator ishimori doesnt even planned hibiki as a KR show) while den O just needs a robot form for his train formations to officially join the super sentai squad…

kabuto is perfect for people who want to start watching KR shows,it has a good mix of action, comedy, and cooking recipes(i love this part the most>.<),and unlike den O kabuto’s comedy stays in the human part, while the action scenes are all serious stuffs, which is good…

well, that’s my quick take on KR,i hope you guys will like it too>.<,anyways how’s the guide’s progress?

I updated Kuuga and Agito with new hit types and new combos (from counterattack, or with inclusion of form change) but I got a break from guide afterwards because I started to read a new manga; after I finish it I plan to either update KR guide or update my SS site

i see,i’m still trying to get that all S rank for decade mode, still stuck in agito VS G3-X(i managed to get S for all other stage in LV1),even with the “cheese” strategy you provided i only got an A(and yes,its a perfect win),it seems that we must get a perfect AND finish the match below 1 minute, and the ground cheese attack takes too long to kill G3-X

thus i devised new strategies and found some stuffs that might change the whole playstyle for other riders too

i haven’t tried it with other riders but these strategies cut about 20~30 precious seconds in getting the S rank(i still haven’t managed to get one though since during the struggle i got hit by G3-X once or twice) and i think all riders that have jumping rider kicks can use this strategy(aside from blade, lightning blast sucks in combos)

Added this thing to list of things needed to add to guide, but right now I work on update for my site.
Would be good for PCSX2 to have netplay somewhere in future.

you do that>.<

i found out those stuffs while i’m doing a CH match with my friend,he don’t have the game and likes to spam rider kicks and mashed the buttons like mad(and managed to beat me a few times, with surprising results, including the defeat of my diend that one time),which is when i found out different properties to the rider kicks

also:kuuga pegasus is TOO tough,i was bested when my pal used kuuga pegasus and i’m using kabuto, clock upping does not help at all,the attacks barely reduced its lifebar and i have to wait for the combo counter to reset all the time, wasting even more time…so faiz & kabuto players:stay away from kuuga pegasus!>.<

as for PCSX2,to make it run properly already needs a bit of a muscle PC(unlike say,MAME,no$GBA or project 64),its take a bigger one to not lag if online feature would be added, but i guess the online feature itself makes up for it?

I dont see Climax Heroes as a game that needs much resources, because its graphics are closer to PS1 graphics than to top PS2 graphics, I think.

With Kabuto, you need to do ?+(222222) combo 3 times, because it has enough recovery for combo counter to disappear, but not enough for opponent to recover. Also you can repate Teleport Stomp crossups, they take more damage overall but are harder to time.

well, its not the graphs, more of the fact that EMU games tends to suck much more resources than the actual console does just to run it perfectly(as an example my pal’s PC can run CoD 2 perfectly whilst his NDS&N64 emulator lags like hell)

as for kabuto,i’ll try that when i got the chance to spar with my friend again, the CPU fights nothing like him>.<

Hate to necro post, but I felt it was appropriate.

  1. I’m getting this game as a birthday gift, hopefully it’ll be in soon. I’m really excited, since I’m on a huge Toku kick right now.

  2. I haven’t seen any posts about it, so I figured I’d post to let anyone interested know that a Wii version was just released, with the new Kamen Rider Double added to the roster, as well as some monsters.

  3. Speaking of Wii, a new Kamen Rider game was released on the US Wii recently based on the US series (Dragon Knight), using a modified Climax Heroes gameplay engine, for people who are interested in the game, but not importing. A DS game was also released, although that one has is developed by Natsume instead of Eighting. Since I don’t have a Wii, though, I did pick it up, and it’s pretty fun, although more of a cross between a beat-em-up and a fighter.

Anyone get/planning on getting Climax Heroes W for Wii?

I’ll only get it when it has the classic Riders.

Yeah, pretty sure you’ve mentioned that before.

Several times.

On several boards.

Well it’s a port, might as well add more. XD

Kamen Rider Climax Heroes W = Wii = Dolphin = kaillera = netplay

so,does the game works well on dolphin? i heard there’s a glitch in climax mode that prevents you from proceeding to the next stages…
