Yeah no doubt the Japanese is still a force to be reckoned with. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Daigo and all the top players. But I don’t like when people hate on the players.
I remember Ed Ma was playing on the stage at Evo2k for a match and there were these douche bags literally cussing him out and making personal attacks. Sure it’s ok to cheer, but to actually yell and scream out loudly to the opponent with hateful words I don’t tolerate.
I think it was like:
“Hey! ED MA! Yeah you! F U! That’s right. YOU AIN’T SHIT!”
I’ll admit, that was super funny. But at the same time those words can make it personal and I knew Ed was trying to hold back and concentrate on his match.
i can understand why justin has started to have this new cocky attitude. it makes for a better show.back in the day just was mad humble. he’d just come to the major win marvel and be on his way. after winning so much, and not really talkin about it no one really pays attention. now he kinda has this new persona with SF4 with the shit talkin and hyping shit up. imo all it does is make it more exciting event.
i was rooting for justin wong cause he was the underdog and i thought daigo was going to beat him for free. especially after he had lost with abel in winners.
I just wanted to come in and state that I have personally met Justin Wong and he is not this horrible guy you guys make him out to seem. When he came to my tournament I was hosting, he came very humble. In fact, I accidently paid him out too much money for a game he won, I told him, and I even said he doesn’t have to worry about giving me the money I paid him over back and he insisted and gave it back. Basically the whole confusion was it was a $5 entry game but it was paid out back as a $10 entry game.
When I was low in staff at my tournament he even helped run the Street Fighter IV bracket calling out names and making sure matches were being ran. He did alot to help out my tournament. He, Eric V., and Perfect Sin came all the way out to Georgia to bring Street Fighter IV’s (at the time it wasn’t out) arcade machine all the way to my tournament. If you ask me, I think he’s a stand up guy from what I’ve personally seen.
He is a cool guy. I remember one time empire came through to a local game center in nyc called nyclan. I played arturo and sanford in cvs2 and was gettin my ass handed to me. Justin came by gave me a few pointers to improve my game. the tactics worked but I still lost to all of them, after that they was very chill and laid back had fun joked around. No cockiness at all was showed when I couldnt beat them there. Justin is a cool dude end of story
Its a video game showboating and gloating is apart of the fun at tournaments and arcades. Why do the only people that take it seriously is the people watching from a computer screen?
Since most of the people commenting on Justin/Daigo are just homebody spectators when it comes to competitive fighters, so I don’t understand when they see Justin getting hype, to them it’s so different than say football players talking shit to each other on the field and/or celebrating after a TD or whatever.
Even if you think Justin is cocky I don’t understand either why that’s like this terrible thing anyway to whine about anyway. When you’re one of the best in the country/world at something then maybe you can have perspective on what a “champion” should think and act like, until then you have no idea.
IMO most people sharing their opinion act like Justin/Daigo are TV or WWE characters , not real people, so it makes sense that there’s a divide from the people who know Justin and how cool he is and the people who treat this like it’s a spectator sport. I just think it’s funny honestly, people saying all kinds of shit about people they don’t know anything about
“omg justin is celebrating, that must mean he’s being cocky, i must HATE him now”
it’s cool to root for whoever you want but people that complain about him celebrating or getting hype i don’t understand. if you were the underdog, and came one step closer to beating arguably the best SF player in the world, wouldn’t you get hyped and use a little bit of crowd support from your FRIENDS!? All the people that rushed the stage after justin even’d up the sets were his friends. what’s the problem with that? Justin is a good friend of mine, and like ruiN, i too am a fan of daigo cuz he’s just so damn good but i rooted for justin cuz he’s my friend and he deserves to beat that mofo already lol. I honestly think the people that hate on players in that way must be people that never attend tournaments and travel for majors. They just don’t know what the pressure is like of playing in a big tournament, being on a big stage.
To Emil, saying that daigo missed combos cuz of the crowd is fanboy dick-riding to the fullest. Making excuses FOR him… YUCK! were you there? were you in Daigo’s mind? did Daigo himself say “the crowd distracted me, i never miss those combos” You even said daigo “almost” never misses those combos, he missed em and got punished, its SF, it happens. To say it was the crowd distracting him is a pussy cop-out excuse, like he hasn’t been in that situation before many times…
No, it’s me being realistic and you being unrealistic. There were 4000 people yelling, most of them NOT on his side. Watching his other countless SF4 matches, you almost NEVER see him miss those kinds of things.
Also, regardless of the reason for Daigo missing those obvious combos, if a large amoutn of the damage you do is because of punished failed combos, then it doesn’t mean as much as if you got that damage in other ways (ie, forcing opponent to make logic mistakes, making them freeze up due to mindgames, etc)
I think it’s more retarded that you said in a video that Daigo got lucky. Get a relaity check.
^ - You are still making excuses for a SF vetern who has been in countless tournaments and should be used to performing at the grand daddy of all fighting games . If you weren’t there, please stop making excuses for a top player making mistakes or missing combos.
I wander what lameass excuse people have when Arturo beat Daigo for $$$, oh that’s right it wasn’t tourney so it doesn’t count right? :blah:
so because i said Daigo CAN miss combos and it probably wasn’t because of the crowd i’m being unrealistic? daigo almost NEVER loses yet i saw him lose in my hotel room with my own eyes in a first to 5 vs Arturo Sanchez with no one yelling for or against him. I guess it would be unrealistic of me to say Daigo can lose too. Thanks for giving me a lesson on reality  I guess Justin only took Daigo to the last set because Daigo missed his combos because the crowd was against him, NOT because Justin is a really good player. I’m sure Daigo must have felt really distracted and annoyed that he missed combos and justin killed him for it every time right Emil? Damn that rowdy american crowd. Damn them all to hell. Poor Daigo. If there was so no crowd he would have never missed those combos. Daigo is perfect and never misses combos. How did we all not see that? sighs…
p.s.- what video are you talking about lol? link plz
never mind i found it.
WOW dude you really do your homework, good job i respect that. it was so clear that i was joking in that video, if it makes you feel any better i will say what i think of Daigo -vs- Justin Wong. Daigo Umehara is a better Street Fighter player than my friend Justin Wong. Doesn’t get any clearer than that right? With that said, I do think Justin is getting a lot closer and it’s only a matter of time until Justin beats him
Uh…you do realize that those 4000 people in the room were just watching in awe and amazement? You weren’t there to hear the actual crowd reaction because you heard the commentary over the actual crowd reaction. I was there. Nobody was saying shit about Daigo in the crowd. They were just cheering at the sight of amazing high level play. When something crazy happened, people cheered like crazy from BOTH ends.
There was no bias. Justin has friends, so they obviously cheered for him and they were the closest to the stage. Justin got close to beating your hero(don’t get me wrong, I love Daigo as a player and think he’s one of the greatest players in the world), but you didn’t get close to beating your own hero. Justin did.
Sometimes, you have to let shit go and realize that not everyone is out to shit on the Japanese. People were just cheering for Justin as much as they were cheering for Daigo. That’s that.
Hate comes with you being in the public eye, there’s no escaping that. If you’re in the public eye like wong or daigo then people are gonna have their opinions.
I root for Justin because he’s American. Like all superstar athletes, he has no concept of self and only plays to represent his great country. When he gets a perfect, we’re all validated.
