Elliot, if i may ask, would you post a recap of your repsonse to her blog? (thats what i assume it was)
I had it in my clipboard knowing that she would do the time honored tradition of DELETING FUCKING EVERYTHING.
I copied something else though, oh well. She read it.
The gist of it was that her gender has very little to do with why she is getting roasted on SRK and everything with the fact that her ego is immense. It doesn’t matter if you’re a girl or a guy, if you come in here and, with your first post, proudly declare your GRAND ARRIVAL onto the Street Fighter scene and expect people to bow down to your completely irrevelant “pro-gaming” experience in a completely different genre, well…
You should already know what’s going to happen, right?
It probably doesn’t help when you go on to state that you are going to become a “top 8 player” and “the best female street fighter” player in six months when you haven’t done shit other than get some Guitar Hero high scores.
/edit: She stealth-edited her post taking out the threats of taking out her haters with her mad skills, or mocking our “pathetic” “how to get a gamer girlfriend” thread (??) and thanking us for driving more hits to her website.
I’m as skeptical as the next person when these kinds of scenarios come up. But seeing how she is willing to sacrifice her entire competitive career to be good at Street Fighter, I can only wish her the best and hopes she proves herself in the competitive circuit.
I think even though both games are worlds apart they both require ridiculous amounts of dedication and as long as she possesses that, anything’s possible.
Although I don’t care much either way, I do think having a rich diversity of the sexes wouldn’t hurt. Other competitive gaming genres have been doing it for years without much quarrel.
lol @ random internet hate.
she has a point, guys will make a “hi im new” thread and will just get random hate for no reason.
So she makes a “Hi I’m new and I’m a girl” thread and SRK hates on her. Isn’t that what feminists want? Equality? No matter the gender you get the same treatment on SRK.
SRK is leading in feminism! Hurrah!
This is very true, we’ve seen several “hay I’m awesome at Halo and now I’m here to get awesome”-type intro threads started by guys that were also flamed heavily. SRK just doesn’t take kindly to that sort of attitude.
Actually, intro threads as a whole is pretty frowned upon. It’s like… Why are you so important you need your own thread?
Pretty sure the hate you get when you come on a forum and start saying that you’re going to be a top 8 player in six months isn’t random hate
I’m not sure you heard, but she is a PRO GAMER.
AND A GIRL.
A GIRL PRO GAMER.
MAYBE YOU’VE SEEN HER ON THE TEE VEE?!
Even if you’re xgamer579, champion of DnD 6 years in a row, or yrockmanz, holder of 79 speed run records, if you come to SRK completely new to the way our world works, you’re a nobody here. Make your name in our community, then we’ll care. As for now, just keep your ego to yourself, because your old titles are worthless.
At least, that’s how I feel it should be. ^_^;

The girl replied to the comments here on her website and she made some good points. I don’t mind that she made a big introduction of herself and we got some laughter out of it.
It’s very positive to have a female write a blog about SF and even discuss gameplay. Personally I wouldn’t read that even if I was new to the game but hopefully others will find it interesting.
For someone from the community to talk bad about Evo, is another matter.
Teams for single player games (starcraft, warcraft, sf4) are about the organization. You are sponsored by an organization and you play for yourself and your organization. It brings money to the pro players. coming from a counter-strike 1.6 background where top players are getting salaries, i find it hard to believe that the sf community has not had this opportunity yet. Organizations/teams give money to pro players to travel and compete. Also their needs to be live coverage of major events, and a universal rule set as well as a universal platform or a way to combine these platforms at tournaments (ex: no matter what you practice on xbox360, ps3, or arcade you have a chance to compete in tournaments without being concerned about platform).
What people do in some forums where they make "hi im new " threads is introduce themselves. it sounds more like an introduction (she obviously didn’t know what she was getting in to) than boasting.
but hey words on a computer screen will mean different things to different people since it’s so informal.
Go ahead, keep defending her.
It would be great to have more girls at high levels of play.
If only because it would make the top tournaments much less of a sausage-fest.
However… fuck starslay3r. No gaming community needs someone with that kind of attitude.
“oh noez i need teh sponsporz so i can spend all my dayz in front of the console”
Fuck you. Every other pro gamer had to juggle with work/college/marriage, everyone has to make sacrifices to get good at anything. Guess what, you can have a full-time job and still put in 40 hours a week of practice. It just means less time spent taking pretty pictures of yourself wishing you had the guts to actually be a SuicideGirl.
Are the VOD’s up for this yet? I would like to see this.
That whole starslay3r thing is hilarious. I mean, who cares that some random guy or gal thinks s/he’s going to be good because s/he REALLY wants to?
I mean, I also want to be good but I shut the hell up and play as much as I can and try to learn. Should I ever be good enough to deserve any kind of attention, it’s going to come all by itself and if not then… not.
If some random dude (like me) would have made a thread like this, people would (at most) have been like “who cares, scrub. gtfo” and that’s the way it’s supposed to be.
“your comment is bullshit. I didn’t block or anything on purpose. I play better then that. I’ve only played for TWO DAYS at that point… at least I know how the fuck to do it and I am using a 360 controller dpad… don’t be pissed that in two days I did better than you could do in a month… you SRK guys are pretty pathetic”
I just had to post that little bit. That?s the response I got from her thru a Youtube email. My problem with her is that all she does is make excuses for herself when people call her out. I?m writing down my response to her now, I hope to have some time to give you guys a brief summary of what I?m saying to her before I have to leave the city for the weekend.
Elliot, I appreciate taking your time to read my comment and respond constructively, but I think my point didn?t get thru. EVO will not go down as long as they do things the right way. I am using MLG as the face of EVO’s competition because it probably is the most possible one right now. I was just trying to put Gootecks comment of “if EVO doesn?t do it I’ll do it myself”.
If EVO doesn?t deliver, and a new tournament comes along with everything competitive players want out of EVO and with even bigger incentives and a much better experience for spectators both live and online do you honestly believe it won?t hurt EVO? EVO is EVO and will always be EVO but some tournament might come along and steal some of EVO’s thunder. Look at the Gamestop tournament, like Gootecks said most people didn?t take it seriously and it ended up being a huge deal.
I have a lot of respect for EVO and their organizers, and the only reason I?m bringing up this POSSIBLE scenario (not saying it will happen but it could) is because I don?t want EVO to be phased out by a worst tournament with dumbed down rules and retarded organizers.
Oh and here?s a little bit of info on the MLG that maybe some of you guys don?t know about, and after I was aware about, is scaring the shit out of me. The MLG contracts their players, so they act both as a league and as a team organization. They use this the same way the CGS tried to use it with their CS:S players by limiting the tournaments they can attend outside of their own events. So what do you think will happen to tournaments outside an organization like MLG if the good players get contracted because they offered them something they can?t refuse? MLG has done it with several big name tournaments and that is the reason why Halo is not used outside of the MLG, the American representative for WCG Halo 3 last year was MoB.Deep instead of Instinct or Str8 Rippin who are clearly better teams but they didn?t even attend qualifiers.
I guess that aslong as EVO uses the games people want to play they will be alive since the sheer number of people that know what EVO is, is more than enough to get a healthy amount of attendance each year, even if other tournaments get bigger.
Oh oh, and please, pleeeease don?t read her twitter, is so full of uneducated comments it?s not even funny. People are even calling her the new Justina Wong :S WHAT THE HELL HAS THIS GIRL DONE TO BE COMPARED TO JUSTIN! Seriously, this is getting way out of hand. How can Justin and Gootecks be OK with this?
*On another note this is going to be a preeetty interesting EVO, so much drama and new faces, new faces that are going to get smashed by actual good players. Im starting ot consider using my vacation to attend EVO, just incase something epic goes down.
Oh and she took down all her pathetic SFIV videos of youtube.
Wow you folks giving this girl hell damn. She stepped on a landmine known as SRK. Now I am not going to hate on Gootecks or anything I love what he is doing for the community and all but he is going to train her free of charge I presume but had the folks already into SF4 pay for that same service(leveling up) by donating to his XBox360 and PS3 fund.
the show was great… im listening to it at work
