Part of the problem is that you are trying to apply the logic and rules of competitive FPS/RTS communities to the fighting game community, and they’re really worlds apart. Beyond that though… really? Who do you think is a threat to EVO? I’m sorry, but Street Fighter players will never get behind MLG. WCG? With banned Seth and Gouken? Hell even Gamestop WITH CAPCOM’S SUPPORT can’t get it together and actually allow people to use joysticks.
Trust me when I say nobody is fading EVO any time soon.
If MLG made televised tournaments on the pro circuit, that could mean good things for Evo as well.
Like sponsors, advertisement, etc. Just wait and see what happens. It’s between Capcom and MLG at the moment.

If all female gamers made their presence known in the scene like she did (with obnoxious posts about how she will be top8 etc) then ofc people will respond in that manner.
If a female gamer makes her intentions of competitive play known whilst being honest and humble then i couldnt see a problem at all.
