Ok for real this time last post of today hahahaha.
Elliot, they have to do it, who would sponsor them if they didn’t sound convincing. And they have to mascarade it with the G1rl G@amer crap because it would be unacceptable if a guy talked smack and got destroyed in real competition. Its just business. My problem is with the girl herself, which is trying to ride the thunder of here reality TV series and thinking someone gives a damn about her because she won a SC2 tournament held in some dudes basement.
If you want to use marketing stunts go for it but atleast do it right and don’t try to do them yourself just let others do it for you. You think you would be a good representation of female gamers in the fighting game community? GREAT! Now attend a couple of events learn how to play the game and after you have some cred go for your little marketing scheme.
Hell I love the PGS Pink Siberias Headphones, but because those girls earned that freaking sponsorship deal. They can probably kick my ass in CS even if they cant hang with the pros. That Star girl is the same thing as if I took some random girl and offered money to act like she is really into SFIV, or knows what the fuck shes talking about (belle anyone).
Bon the Winners League was some of the most exiting SC matches Ive seen outside of OSL finals. And boy oh boy what a final! Surreal to be honest, it revitalized the game. It is the perfect way to implement team play into a 1v1 game. For anyone wondering Winner League was kind of a King of the Hill format for StarCraft used in a recent tournament, very similar to SBO and EVO formats for 3S but you have to win 4 games for your team to win.
CaliSean, Gootecks said he would do it but he didn’t even say it the first time they brought it up, he said it after the issue of broadcasting was brought up and discussed, the truth is in every competitive game someone is trying to take over the fanbase and spectators. If EVO doesn’t deliver a good tournament do you think people will sit with their arms crossed and do nothing because they respect the tournament?
If EVO doesn’t do it then someone else will and that someone else could be Gootecks backed by a big name tournament, and as Ive said before, right now, if lets say MLG decided to add SFIV to their circuit and needed a head director who do you think they will contact Wizard or Gootecks? Ryan is doing one hell of a job putting SFIV and his name out there, he wants to make a living off fighting games and if you see an opportunity you have to take it, because these is a harsh and unforgiving career path, that more often than not doesn’t give back what you deserve. Thats why no one can tell me they think this guy or that guy or organization, got into pro gaming for the money, you might make some decisions later on to boost your income but that’s after you get in and work your way to a respectable position but you never start from scratch with money or fame as your motivator.
I know you are a respected member and know what you are talking about so I hate disagreeing with you but I think you got a little worked up by the comment because you took it the wrong way, Gootecks is not challenging EVO or saying he will try to dethrone EVO as the prime fighting game event in the USA he just said that he would be willing to step up to the plate if the situation arises.
By how things are looking, there is a pretty big chance that EVO wont be THE event to go to pretty soon. MrWizard has done a lot of great things for this community and I really respect him for it but he will have to work very hard because chances are that if MLG or some other league that has more financial power than MrWiz challenges EVO it could go down, nobody thought the CPL could go under and look what happened. Could EVO compete with a tournament sponsored by several brands with big prize money, excellent spectator experience both live and online including well produced livestream, commentators and edited material like top10 compilations for those that couldn’t watch it and VODs of all the matches instead of shaky camera footage and waiting for official DVDs to come out?
To put things in perspective here is some info on the current state of CS and TF2 regarding leagues, CEVO is going into its 11th CS and 4th TF2 season later this year, only the Pro division needs an entry fee, but people are not happy with the admins, and are starting to see that their anti-cheat client isn’t as flawless as they said, then here comes ESEA a SUBSCRIPTION based league in which you have to pay $5 a month even when its off-season, it does offer some good features like stats and stuff but its irrelevant just like BP. ESEA is going into its 3rd CS season and 2nd TF2 season and atleast with the TF2 guys ESEA is looking to be the more appealing league to play in and watch since CEVO even had trouble with the finals stream (SourceTV) and ESEA has long taken over CS:S player fanbase off of CEVO that not long ago was the best league to play Source in.
Again, this is a unforgiving business. I would be heartbroken to see EVO go down because they didn’t want to adapt and see it been taken over by some new tournament. And if that happens basically every other fighting game outside of Street Fighter IV will have very little to look forward to. But also bringing more exposure to the tournaments and showing people how big tournaments can turn out would motivate sponsors and teams to pick up players.
BTW all of that EVO failing scenario is speculation on what could happen, I’m not predicting it will and I certainly don’t want it to be that way. I don’t want to die without attending an EVO event and loosing $400 in a Las Vegas while relying on my fighting games betting skills 
To the guy that compared these to the music bands fan clubs, I don’t know it reminds me a band fanboys, but I’m getting a weird feeling of Deja Vu, like if seen all of these go down somewhere different some other time, but where? Oh that’s right! Now I remember PC gaming! If history repeats itself arguing over some guy that wants to live stream an event is not going to be anywere near the type of stuff that will go down in the next 2 years, some big names will fall, others will rise and things that used to be considered part of the community would be looked back with nostalgia and considered “growing aspects/pains” and something that was needed but that people wouldn’t go back to, and it will happen with events, game versions, leagues and with the amount of money involved and needed to run a successful event and along that prize pots will start to slowly rise until it the game reaches its peak popularity, and kids grow up wanting to be the next big SF pro.

If I went up and posted a video of me playing like that against the CPU even if I named it “testing my new camera” and didn’t write 2 paragraphs to justify my poor performance I would get flamed to oblivion.
I’m starting to hate this girl for real. If I can go to a big tournament this year that she is attending I’m doing what CaliSean is doing with Gootecks with any girl that can wipe the floor with her.
