So harsh.
damn yo, I’m gonna have to get you some good ass weed to calm you down. You got hella anger issues man haha
In the event that this is all just a publicity stunt and in light of gootecks’ ambitions for this game (highlighted in today’s interview and itunes tracks), what does this say about the integrity of some of the top players out there? It seems as if there’s a huge push to making SF4 appeal to the masses and I’m all for that… but at what cost? Are any of you guys concerned that the ‘community’ can become diluted once even our ‘top players’ are simply looking for ways to profit from a wider audience?
No, because at the end of the day we’ll play it because we like it regardless. It will not impact the majority of players at all.
Be happy people are hyped about it here at all, shit is collecting dust in Japan.
Iyo said there was loads of players still… :shy:
Very cool interviews. I love Gooteck’s enthusiasm. I believe SF4 does have the potential to be the kind of game he wants it to be nationally. A lot of my friends do love to spectate matches, and they have no idea what is going on in the game. And we are a bunch of old guys! Not little kids who have nothin to do in between classes. Make it happen fellas!!
Great show Wheat as someone who’s followed you on the quake scene it’s nice to see you so enthused by the fighting community.
Girl gamers. Hahahaha.
They have been and always will be jokes and a publicity stunts. Starting with PMS. All of those girls are just decent gamers that get sponsorship deals because they have a “unique” (i.e. punk-rock) look or titties.
That one that Gootecks is supposed to be tutoring just came off WCG Ultimate Gamer, that says it all. Athena and the rest of the PMS squad give girl gamers a bad name, there are plenty of girl gamers that are pretty good at what they do (EG.girls, MYM, Mousesports) but PMS hasn’t done anything worth mentioning in a long time except for ad campaigns, game reviews and guest appearances on shows.
These piece of work is just trying to be the next Tipperqueen, hoping to be just good enough to not get embarrassed at tournaments get picked up by some organization and live out the e-celebrity live. Too bad shes not even good looking, and there are plenty good looking girls that could do a much better job as the face of female SF.
You could tell from Gootecks tone that it is just something hes doing to see how it goes, I mean come on, not even an arcade stick :S Are you serious?
And Songo look dude, I will bet money that it was some “new multi-team organization with plenty of sponsors and in the look-out for mature talented and dedicated players”, you know like the ones that pop up every single day.
Its OK to join because they will usually get you atleast a Ventrilo server but it was your problem for thinking they could actually do anything for you besides that. Come on men, Ive been sponsored on CS, TF2 and Halo 3, I don even LIKE Halo 3. Hell I was about to join a sponsored L4D team but I snapped back to reality and remembered that it is not a competitive game. They have promised me a lot of things but I know that they are talking out of their asses and I know that my skill level was not at the same level as other pros so why would a organization waste money sending a CS team to a CPL event (back in the day) when they are not seeded and would probably get their asses handed to them in the first bracket.
A recognized organization would never do something like that and when they do is usually because they are fucked and are going bankrupt. And hey, guess what, it will happen with SF (probably already is happening) like it has happened with all the other game.
I understand what you are saying but you are not exactly right, or do you think that if coL, or EG picked up a SFIV player they would not pay for his travel arrangements or the stipulated salary?
I think this is great, I mean come on a Street Fighter event is considered a huge succeeds and gets tons of coverage because they had 500 attendants, SF is just starting to grow as an eSport. Wait till you see what happens when SF starts to get included in big name tournaments and steal the thunder of the other games. Hahahaha I cant wait for WeMadeFox.Poongko or [Str8Rippin]Combofiend (if SF is picked up by MLG), Combo’s face in every bottle of Mountain Dew hahahahaha, or Justin hosting a Dr.Pepper Ultimate Gaming House chapter.
Sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry for the rant and that last paragraph, and sorry for talking about fantasizing with things that most of you don’t know what they are, its just that I’m just really really excited to see where SF is going.
And Elliot, unfortunately, games in general, are still trying to break into mainstream. To this day outside of some Halo 3 players, professional gamers make very little money even when factoring in winnings.
Somebody is going to sell out and when they do, if they succeed, everyone is going to follow suit. That is how it works. I know a good amount of you are familiar with the CGS, do you think that if the CGS in fact made it big and their CS:S players starting making insane amounts of money the CS 1.6 competitive scene would be alive today? No! And if that ended up happening by the time people realized what happened they wouldn’t care.
Professional gamers are not making money, they are surviving. SF has been brought to the spotlight again and its been so long that it is a new playfield. Everyone that is serious about SF is looking for ways to make the money they need to travel to the tournaments and get by on a daily basis. I’m sure Gootecks is doing these in hopes of landing a sponsor thru the girl or some other way to fund his SF career. I don’t see anything wrong with it to be honest :S As long as they don’t change the rulesets to appeal to broader audiences I’m OK with anything these guys have to do to get by.
Its late I’m going to bed. Hope to see these discussion alive on Monday and with some interesting opinions to read.
WTT: Gootecks (or was it Justins) phone number for a XBox 360 unmodded SE stick. He will help you with your game and give you tips and advice before every game you play until he changes his number.
I’m joking btw gootecks, I didn’t write it down, and even if did I cant call you, I live in DR its like 5 bucks a minute for a long distance call to cali (or something like that, I know its not cheap).
Wow the attitude in this thread reminds me of the music scene. It goes something like this :
- upstart band builds small following which turns into grassroot fanbase. this fanbase becomes obsessively loyal, knowing all the lyrics history etc etc.
- band continues on this sucess, signs record deal, gets played on commercial radio.
- fanbase ditches band, hates commercial radio, hates money, hates life.
Money isn’t the enemy here.
Quit the hating and snobbery. SF4 is a good game, and when something is good you should share it. It’s not as if top players are going to be useing ryu/ken just to boost ratings. To stay top tier, they will have to do what they already do - but the advantage is they MAY get paid for doing something they love. If that’s selling out, then good on them.
If you like fighting games it’s in YOUR interests to spread this game, even to mr arcade noob ken meaty + sweep. After all you need people to play against.
Down with the snobs and haters!
look at the arcadia ranking. It is barely ranked 7th place overall. Japan loves tekken.
Hmmm I saw in her blog where she wants to practice 40 hours a week until she is top 8. If she means top 8 online, gootecks better teach her how to cord pull.
Its that sheep stage, nothing can beat it
fucking truth
It would help if you quoted someone when you post like this…Myself, I’m not worried about selling out. Money the enemy? I WANT our top players getting recognition like the DoA or VF players at WCG. However, I DON’T want the tournaments being handled by people who don’t know the community like Gootecks does.
This pretty much sums up my thoughts.
I don’t think Starcraft becoming mainstream in Korea hurt the community over there, so I think we the community well be fine if SF ever did become mainstream.
Neither do I.
What I do have a problem with is when it’s disguised as false-populist appeals and claims of trying to “grow the scene” and “help out the community.”
You know, when Cole came back from taking third at the Gamestop nationals, he was/is super hyped because of the level of play he saw there and how everyone, all over the country was leveling up their games. He couldn’t wait to tell the NW players what he saw and what he learned there and was super amped to go to EVO.
That’s what it’s all about, as opposed to getting hyped for all that MAINSTREAM MONEY SON WE GETTIN’ SPONSORS NOW bullshit. :arazz:
In any case I can’t wait for StarSlay3r with her customized StarSlay3r fightpad, 40+ hours a week training regimen, and lameass GRRL GAMER sponsors to get peaced in the first round of EVO.
She’ll probably put “QUALIFIED FOR EVO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP” on her “gamer resume” after that, right next to her BP score.
I for one believe that street fighter 4 could work extremely well in a team format.
As i have played starcraft for i think… 5 years now, and followed professional starcraft for the same time, i think stealing the winnersleague format (a recent one off sadly) would be the best. except because of length of matches, just bo3 matchs, matchs being bo5.
pro teams have a roster of 8 or so players to choose from for the match, one player starting. they announce their player before the match (for both teams) Players play on if they win (Same with the evo/tougeki teams 3’s eh?) till a score of 4 wins is reached.
This format allows for match up snipers, for all kills, amazingly tense final games to clinch the 4-3 win, etc.
I would tune in and watch that shit every week. Imagine seeing players comeback from their team being 3-0 to win 4-3 (for those who follow starcraft, think winners league finals skyhigh vs lecaf. epic turn around and under such amazing pressure!)
I love how Gootecks says,“If EVO doesnt do it, someone will, and that somebody is going to be me.” This dude ran ONE EVENT and that event was on ONE SETUP. Now hes going to turn around and talk shit on EVO? You gotta be fucking kidding me. Why is this dude shitting on an event thats been around since before he even knew what a controller was? Total lack of respect for something that’s been home grown since day 1. Its no coincidence that EVO and SRK have grown into the biggest and baddest two things in fighting games and now someone wants to come along and try to steal SRK’s thunder. 100 dollar bounty on whoever takes swindletecks out at evo. Whoever does it, come get at me.
Ok well this brings the number of people that dislikes gootecks to uh, 1? The dude’s like Santa, Jesus, Brad Pitt, and Tiger Woods wrapped into one.
