Just Rolling With It: Yang General Discussion Thread

I can’t even remember what target combo 3 is … Is that the one with the three kicks? Never seen that used in a match but I heard you can cancel into ultra in the corner

Yeah, it’s the one with the three kicks. I don’t think anyone uses it because you don’t get many options after connecting with it, and the initial st.lk that starts the target combo can be cancelled into a special move which can give you more options that doing the target combo.

I just want to see if target combo 3 can be used in a way that isn’t out-shined by Yang’s other options. :stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldn’t be surprised if Capcom was just intentionally adding something worthless so they could say “See? 2012 wasn’t all about nerfs to the top tier, we gave you some new stuff too!” IIRC ROM was saying something about how TC3 followed by forward dash x2 puts you in their face at like +0 or -1, which leads me to wonder whether we can gain anything off of it in the corner. I’m not tremendously optimistic, though.

TC3 is the untapped tech

st.LK is already +1 on block and nearly impossible to whiff punish, meaning you can toss it out whenever you want for the most part. You can make them guess between another st.LK, walk up grab, canceled Rekka, or TC.
MK is jump cancelable, meaning you may be able to make it into something useful if they aren’t mashing. Maybe even something on hit since it’s +1. Not jump canceling may get you punished at -5 but that’s why you either jump cancel or go into HK.
HK (full TC) is only -2 on block.

Being a TC automatically blows up focus attacks.

But more importantly, on hit, you can dash forward and will be in range for set ups. This is especially good in the corner.

Worst part about it is that you can’t hit confirm into it, so unless there’s a major setup afterwards that makes it worth it over more damaging options in punish situations, it’s not gonna be used.

Edit: nvm forgot mk part is jump cancellable.

Being -2 basically makes it a hit confirm on it’s own. Haven’t played with it much but unless you’re fighting something like Boxer (ridiculous cr.LP) or Zangief (free SPD) you can throw out st.LK without fear most of the time.

I talked about it a long while back, but a combo that combined good damage and great oki was:

whatever into slashes xx fadc s.strong -> kick chain

sends the opponent almost as far as slash enders, but you get a free dash x2 and you’re close enough for command grab.

tested against ryu, even if he quickstands and reversal DPs, you can block.

I forgot all about this combo because I got lazy and didn’t complete the list of who this worked on standing [and that was when I found out how to control the crossup after jump fierce reset]. The combo whiffs on crouching chars and a few it doesn’t work on at all [crouching or standing]. I still think that combo I found is [while situational] incredibly useful. On the characters it doesn’t work on [crouching or at all] you can just go straight into kick chain, but the damage drops a lot without that s.strong. Might as well just launch into jump fierce reset instead.

Also, kick chain is… -6? or something if you stop at 2 hits, if you go all the way it’s only -2 blocked.

Also yang has a true unblockable against a couple chars after forward throw. I know Fei is one. Gen? Sakura? I’m pretty sure viper also gets boned by that, but what you do after forward throw is different compared to fei’s setup [I think it’s just jump forward into late rh divekick].

This is the only match i’ve ever seen kick target combo being used (so rare that i even remembered having watched it lol).

Poongko’s yang is…interesting. He uses buttons nobody else does and in ways nobody else does lol, plus he makes negative frame divekicks a mixup situation lol

Someone should test if this still works:

And here’s the forever mentioned divekick unblockable:

I’m not 100% sure it still works, and it hits deeper than i remembered. I was probably wrong disregarding this as viable and “uncomboable” afterwards.

where can i find all the unblockable info?

My best bet is here (the yang lab thread). I don’t think the info is consolidated into a post/topic though…you’ll probably have to check youtube descriptions, read a lot of posts or ask around something specific.

I can test those unblockable set-ups if you want. Quick question though; to test it, do you set the dummy to all-block, or do you just record the dummy holding back? Or have a human player try and block it? I just want to make sure I test it right.

And the second kick of target combo 3 being jump cancelable can make for some interesting pressure opportunities, but I’m thinking that doing it too much could be…bad, to say the least. I’m gonna see if there are any cross-up set-ups with it though, both off of the second hit jump cancelled, and the third hit.

You have to record the unblockable setup (yang as p2) and then try to block it as p1. The all guard option of the cpu blocks everything.

Not to go too much into it, but unblockables are not really unblockables per se, you can still block any setup in this game, you just need to have frame perfect timing.

Oh and if you’re gonna do it and it’s not too much to ask, try to followup after the divekick with at least a cr.lk.

Okay, thanks; I’ll see what I can do.

I once thought I found an unblockable against Cody but unfortunately it wasn’t. I started it by doing a launcher into sweep then dashed in waited a few frames and did a hk divekick. The height that it hits him in is the hip. Actually it wasn’t even a cross up even though you land behind him. It hits on the front and then you land behind him. A cr. lk can hit him after it but it’s a tight link. Sure I don’t know if somebody better could’ve turned it into an unblockable. The way I found it to be useful though is that you can mix up your opponent by doing a mk divekick with more delay in the air and you get a legit comboable cross up.

This same set-up worked against Guy but from a forward throw. I’m pretty sure the unblockable against Fei works against Adon as well. Haven’t tested it though but it worked in a match. At least it stuffs his DP if nothing else.

cant get that hk dive to work. can get mk dive kick to be unblockable, but it loses to reversals

Yeah the hk one is really really hard. At first I got the timing down but the second time I started to try it out it took me like half an hour to get the timing right. I think it takes too much effort to be really practical. The mk set ups have better frame advantage and are easier to do. Shame the mk one loses to reversals though.

so you know what i absolutely hate?

when i miss time the meaty coming out of the reset and someone jumps out of my mix up.

i think i’m going to start using jabs just so i can OS if i miss

EDIT-also had no idea yangs crouching and standing light punches recovered in 6 frames. meaning you can meaty jab characters like viper for free on wake up

now i need to think of a set up for perfect timed crouch jab meaties

it’s your lucky day dude , get these
cl mk JC hp lk tp cr lk or (cr lp st lp OS u1)
cl mk dash mp lk Teleport cr lk or (cr lp st lp OS u1)
hp mk senkyutai lk teleport cr lk(cr lp st lp OS u1)
i use suugest using these against : balrog (cr lk one),sakura ,rose(shuts down all options poor rose!!!),viper,dj,bison(U1 works only against ex knee press),cody(no zonk please, respect my U1!!!)
that’s my labwork at this moment, feel free to add yours)

thanks good shit on those. i want to come up with some set ups from hard knockdown too if i can. using wiffed normals, jumps, dashes, etc to get that perfect timed meaty on wake up.

new stuff called teleport gimmicks.here’s my lab work
hp mk senkyutai --> lk teleport
if they tech , u have a 50/50 mixup.how?get this:
option 1 : go for a mp
option 2: go for an ex teleport
option 1 beats everything but reversals:grab, lights, jumps and dashes(not sure) , can go for a mp counter hit xx U1 (yeah if u r japanese!!!)
option 2 is only to use when opponents like to grab when they see yang TP (or noobs with grab wakeup)
tested on 3 frame reversals and approuved!!!
i will try to make it better but i just wanted to share( thx to 666 for his hp mk senkyutai , dash , lk tp, cr lk , ex tenshin setup)
give me your words,guys…
