Just Rolling With It: Yang General Discussion Thread

have you guys just been using light roll kick as primary anti air? I try to use cl forward or roundhouse but it’s a crap shoot especially against shoto jumping roundhouse. Dear god it feels good to do cl. forward into relaunch combo though.

Yes. It doesn’t trade much.

I thought the first two hits of that target combo were safe? What can punish it? I coulda sworn everyone and their mom was saying first 2 hits were safe. Well, either way. St Mp range is where I feel comfortable playing at. Not necessarily so that I can throw the St Mp. And Cl Mp St Lk to rekka is good too. Thanks for the heads up tho, if it really is unsafe I’ll be sure to keep that in mind.

@otter; I use Lk dragon kick as anti air most of the time when I can’t anticipate the jump. If I have a good read on someone I usually meet air-to-air with J Hk. Neutral jump Hp is pretty good for both anti air and getting U1 for players that rush in predictably. Adds variety from neutral jump dive kicks.

It’s -3 on block. Things like the twin’s s.lk xx special work well to punish it because they’re long reaching, 3f normals that are special cancelable.

What are Yang’s best corner escape methods?

EX teleport, LK DP FADC, or just blocking and waiting.

muertooooo

So been focusing on Yang today. God I love this character. One of my biggest problems right now is remembering all the fucking tools he has. I will be playing then be like “oh yea I have this too I forgot”.

Big problem im still doing is still trying to hit confirm rekkas off my cr. mk with heavy rekka first, when I know I need to be doing light to stay safe lol. Do too much pattern bullshit at times too, bad divekicks, stupid palms, other random newbish stuff. But after a nice long session today I am finally getting the hang of him.

If you do cr.mk xx HP Rekka, you’re actually better off cancelling into a light rekka follow up. It works as a frame trap if they try to punish and you’re at -5 instead of -6.

Noobish question (I am away from my Xbox so I can’t test): So we can mix the rekkas? like cr.mk xx HP Rekka (1st hit), LP Rekka(2nd hit), LP Rekka (3rd hit) etc?

Yes. And since the subject is related, you should pretty much always “mix” the rekkas on hit and finish with lp rekka for better options afterwards at the cost of marginal damage.

Thanks for your reply  I do have more questions on the matter, but will get back to it after I have done some practice

I didnt play Super at all and now playing A.E Yang I’m having lots of fun with . Seems like a natural cross-over since i played him in 3dstrike.

yea, so ono said that ae will get a free balance patch. my question is how hard do ya’ll feel yun & yang ( importantly yang ) will get nerfed?

It’s anyone’s guess, really. I personally think Yang is fine, but he gets a lot of hate because of his brother, so we’ll see. If you look at his hitboxes, for instance, you can tell he wasn’t intended to be as imbalanced as Yun.

Maybe small stuff like reduced range on command grab, less block/hitstun on divekicks, more startup on mk and hk rolls since they’re really use to use against projectiles. I definetly think palm will be made useless…like reduced hitbox, reduced meter building, more recovery, etc.

Although to be honest, I expect this to be more a buff patch than a nerf patch, Ono mentioned that in his twitter acc.

…Reduce the range on command grab? It has practically no range as it is.

Less block/hit stun on dives? No. Giving him unsafer dives will make his dives pointless. He’s already -2 on his dives on block as it is (since you can’t throw him, but you can Ken Super him), why would you allow him to be thrown or reversal srked?

Why change normal roll kicks at all? They’re too slow to use against projectiles in most circumstances already, unless you read one coming.

Changing palms won’t bother me, though. It doesn’t REALLY build that much meter in the grand scheme of things, I find.

Amazing, you completely misunderstood my post.

Expected to see a couple Yangs at Evo in the top 32 or so… unless I missed a match with him I didn’t see much Yang representation at all. Why Yang when you can Yun I guess :(.

Yang should only get very minor nerfs if any. I still don’t see Yang raping like Yun has been doing. Sadly, a couple small tweaks and I could see Yang not being very good. This is a huge bias obviously but I would leave him alone.

EDIT: actually I take that back, maybe some very very slight nerfs to his normals in terms of frame advantage.

They only nerf I can think of that I would be okay with is a palm meter gain reduction from 30 down to 20. I don’t want to see any big nerfs.
