Just Rolling With It: Yang General Discussion Thread

anyone know if dictator st. mk, Hk can be safely avoided using his jump ins? also had a problem battling chuns, her legs are just to long, yang needs to get close and he don’t have much of that poking power except his cr.mk and st. HP. Another thing is, I think (not sure or if you guys already discussed it) that most especially the cr. lpx2, st.lp, cr.mk can be cancelled by shotos uppercut. The only thing that seems to work is do cr.lp, st.lp,cr.mk.

Congrats, bro. Any footage on that tournament, or it just a local? Any match-ups you (personally) struggled on?

You can make one. Got too much on my side, but I’m sure people would support you.

My first couple of matches are up… we switched AE off the stream for Marvel after the first couple of rounds.

It’s in the archive… most recent vid, as of now. I’d link directly, but justin’s acting funny right now.

I struggled in both of the matches that got streamed, actually. I was down 1-0 in both sets, and they both went to the last round. One against Dee Jay, another against Rufus. I played pretty shitty most of the night actually. Didn’t really feel comfortable until Winners’ Final, when I beat Steve H’s Sagat 2-0. I had been really having Sagat issues before then, so it was cool to get past that, and at least have some ground to start from as the match evolves.

I can feel you on the Sagat pains. I find myself just playing sloppy against them, but that’s just a personal fallacy of mine.

Congrats again, HAV.

Yang’s Ultra 2 is reeeeeeeeeeeeally strange and is pissing me off. Its bugs a lot.
I had lost 2 rounds because of these situations:

 1. After comboing a lot against a Gen I dizzied him with a non-comboed c.lk. I have a full ultra bar and I’m like “Nice lol! No sacaling on that ultra! Take that old man!”. He’s dizzied right in front off me, I’m GLUED to him and I Ultra 2. It just goes STRAIGHT UPWARD kicking the air… and Gen… is still there, dizzied on the ground :frowning: He recovers and lands me his full ultra 1 while I descend from the ultra…

 2. I have no life left, guile is on my nose with 30% health left. I have a full ultra bar. He misses a sonic boon, with becomes a f.HP in my face. I Ultra 2. Yang starts ROLLING DURING THE WHOLE ANIMATION OF HIS f.HP and only starts upckicking when Guile recovers. Of course he blocks it and kill me with a jab while i fall down.

Anyone else having these annoying bugs with Ultra2?

I had U2 whiff when I got behind Yun when he whiffed a wake up U1 attempt. I think he moved forward slightly and U2 decided to track early.

Anyways, found an interesting fuzzy guard setup that’s not really useful unless you want the kill when they have little life left.

Safe jump Fierce, land, instant overhead j.Forward and if you want you can cancel the j.Forward into the Forward Dive Kick chain combo.

This was over on the Cammy boards:

15F hitstun for Yun cannot possibly be right. He has to divekick so fucking low in order to even connect a jab afterwards.

Yang’s dives cannot be punished on block, correct, at least against all shotos, don’t know about the big boys - will try and record tonight. I am sure that I have been reversal SRKed after landing a hit above the stomach though.

so yeah, readin the japanese yang forums/bulletin board… they were talking about hk dive kick having invi frame or something… anyone here knows anything bout it?

eita did a test of it, i think imma reupload that video to youtube…

edit: meh its 4am and i couldnt download the original source, maybe some other time lol

Anyone here attending EastCoastThrowdown?

Probably going to MWC.

I started recently using s.lk as my way to keep people in check or in a blocksting. But lately alot of people would usually wait it out or try to DP out of it. I need more options.

^ Just mix up the timing of your st.lk or cancel it into a lp slash (hit confirm into slashes on hit) to keep them in check. If you’re getting dp’ed out of st.lk, that means you’re being predictable. If the opponent is just sitting there blocking waiting for you to throw it out before doing anything, that’s usually your cue to dive kick in and start the pressure. St.lk is too strong not to abuse.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned/realized or not but, it’s ideal to end the third hit of Yangs mantis slash combo w/ lp slash since the knock back isn’t as far as the 3rd hit of his hp slash. Which means the opponent lands close enough for you to continue applying pressure after a single forward dash (realized it after watching Nemo play online). The damage difference is also inconsequential. Doesn’t apply if the opponent is in the corner obviously.

Nope… that is most definitely right. Yang’s dive kick is unpunishable against shotos regardless of what height you hit them on block.

Man, the C.Viper match up feels really comfortable to me. Just finished play a long set against a pretty decent Viper and usually when I play against her with Seth, I’ll struggle. Yang has so many tools! >.< I can avoid Seismo Pressure with LP Palm (Lower body Invincibility of course), I can actually get to her because of Yang’s amazing foot speed (when you play with seth, every other foot speed feels faster), and the most important part is that I have a normal that lowers my hittable hitbox (Cr.LK) to avoid Burn Kicks. I love Yang… no homo =)

oh yes i love it when i accidentally negative edged a command dash from a cr.mk

I still do that from time to time. I find that I negative edge more from a s.lk or c.lk. xD;

So I’m a brand new SF player, I’ve been watching streams since SSF4 but AE is the first game I really picked up and started to play.

Today I recorded a video of myself doing simple combos I found in the combo thread from 1 day of practice with Yang.

I figured I would use these as starters to get myself going for online/offline. (With the exception of the standing close mk into u1, I’m going to assume cl.s mk is a bad hitconfirm)

Feel free to add any combos, or tell me better ones to use, I’m new so idk if using 3 cr.lk’s is even a good idea with proration…

Also any tips/tricks with yang or the game in general would be killer!

It’s not cl.mk, fadc, u1. It’s just cl.mk, dash, u1.

Using cr.lk, cr.lk, cr.lk isn’t a bad hit confirm. It’s universal (unlike hit confirms that use s.lp), but it doesn’t have the reach of a hit confirm that involves cr.mk. It’s all good, though; that shit really just boils down to preference.

After a command grab, you can do cl.mp, cr.mk on some characters. 1f link, but it’s Yang’s most punishing link that I’m aware of.

I was just wondering, is it common knowledge that Yang’s lp palm and ex palm are both low invincible?

It has been covered, yes. I think one of the latest Liang’s videos have such a moment as well.
