Juri Arcade Edition Documented Changes

I’m still finishing up the roster and will post it today at some point in the “What Works on Who Thread”.

Just a warning that results have not been fantastic.

played a couple of sets with a really good Yun today…lost them all…not a happy person i have to say.

Real quick. I personally dont understand why everyone is stoked for this fireball change in the corner. Before I go into a rant you ALWAYS could have fireballs stored in the corner hard body but now its just silly. So many ways to earn them. On a KD you can have 3 ready for next turn easily.

But we always could have at least 2 AND in super it gave us an automatic meaty setup. Store (KD) store, c.mp was sick if they quick rise. Now, it kinda throws off my timing. I also used to reset with fireball store off a j.mp for mix up (and that shit was beautiful…worked all the time). Now it doesnt work. Shes a completely different corner pressurer now.

And her normals had to be buffed. The bison match is 100x easier now. It feels like she murders him on footsies now.

100x easier? Interesting.

From my limited play time with Juri, she seem like a more finely tuned version of her old self. The slight changes to her walk speed and wonky hit boxes allow her to be played how she was intended. I already accepted the fact that Juri is a mid to lower tier character so I don’t see why people are raving against top tier like Yun. She still has bad wake up options, same as before, and in most cases I still think the best wake up option is blocking. Yun is much scarier in third strike, he can build up to 3 genei jin per round, and the game system allow you to get out pressure.

Went against a bunch of Yun players last night and the main thing I noticed about this match up is that Juri’s st.LP stuffs his dive kicks and some jump-ins on reaction (I believe Juicebox mentioned this earlier?). However, when it comes to footsies, a good Yun player is tough to deal with.

@ MetallicMike: What did you take away from the sets you played and was there certain constant issues you were having against him? Just want some new things to look out for.

I second what IKill said. The changes make Juri more enjoyable to play, but enjoyable =/= more viable. It will help to a certain degree such as upping her footsies but what really needed to be addressed was her wakeup game and they totally skipped that over. Still, I like what they did to her dash and walkspeed, it helps more than I would imagine, and I can now do run up and grab gimmicks easier with her. Not always safe, but hey- this is Juri we’re talking about.

For Yun exfireball can punish the get in for free nonsense on reaction.

I want to say crouch mk helps too with the reduced hurtbox, but I need to test it more.

Use MK fireballs against Yun, all 4 dash punches are slightly off the ground and he can actually go over LK fireball sometimes.

MP, HP, and EX shoulder are punishable, but the timing is WONKY. Lots of blockstun on MP and HP, but not on EX.

MP: cr.LP xx LK pinwheel
HP: cr.MK xx whatever
EX: close MP or cr.HP xx whatever.

With fast reaction time, cr.HP is the best anti-air for divekicks, hitbox-wise. Far MK is the next best, but they need to land on your extended foot, which is technically a badly spaced divekick at that point.

If he starts palming for meter Shikusen that mofo. Stay at 1/2 to 3/4 screen to keep it a threat.

That’s the Yun matchup in a nutshell.

Juri’s wakeup game is pretty solid. If you like to mash DP on wakeup, play someone else.

damn i keep forgetting juri can fadc outta ex pin ><*

When you say “Solid” meaning unreliable, getting stuffed/ bad trades, non-existent, or thrown out, then sure. It’s solid. =/

edit: And counter/ex counter? Not only is it not reliable, but if the opponent knows how it works and can react for a damn, it’s easily telegraphed and you will get punished for it depending on the character.

She has a 1-frame counter that can’t be option-selected in any way, an attack with startup invincibility, a decent backdash, a low-profiling forward dash, a low-profiling normal move, and an instantly-airborne normal move. Her only real weakness in her wakeup game is that she needs meter, but being one of the fastest meter-builders in the game, it’s not much of a problem.

that’s nice, but with the counter you need to guess/read correctly, or she will get grabbed. It can’t be option selected but people can react to it and then punish it (like the ex one some characters can anti air it while she’s still in the air) Juri has lots of good tools, but none are reliable, and even fewer are safe.
But yes, her backdash is pretty good, however the rest isn’t getting her out of a knockdown against every character (unless it’s situational)

Don’t get me wrong, she does have options on wakeup, and when they work they’re awesome it’s just they aren’t reliable and could be safer- to get out alive with Juri you need to either have perfect prediction or take a risk. The same can be said for many characters but ex counter and pinwheel if whiffed or blocked leaves you wide open for a huge beating. It’s too bad they didn’t tweak these enough in AE. :frowning: I said this before but I read in a developer’s interview they wanted Juri’s weakness to be her defense so I’m not really surprised they didn’t fix it. I don’t think it would of made her broke or anything but right now I’m somewhat lost with what Capcom’s idea of “balance” is lol.

I have so many issues with Yun its unreal, i could literally write an essay on how much he pisses me off right now. His frame traps and strings are just too good, it felt hopeless trying to out poke him (His target combo is especially annoying), i felt powerless on wakeup because he could just lunge punch to cover all my wakeup game which is also safe anyway. Divekicking seems easy to stuff on paper right, but at 3 different angles where he could or could not cross me up and land at different distances away from me, i find it annoying to deal with to say the least.

Duno theres alot of other stuff i could say, he needs extensive lab time, mistakes have to be so damn fucking minimal in the matchup its untrue. Scrubby Yuns arent my problem though, people who know what they are doing on the other hand…arg.

Reversals aren’t supposed to be safe, and there’s no such thing as a “reliable” option. Anything can be baited and punished.

You cant dive kick palm. He recovers while it is still active.

I think the most important thing to do is to counter research yun. People watch yun to find out what they can do…find how what they lose to. Watch matches with Daigo losing and see what he lost to…then say “how can juri do this”.

I’ll tell you one thing that is nice vs yuns is far mk meaty fireball on wake up. I really like that a lot. I feel like its a free way to stay in if you space and time it right

He has 5 frames of recovery. It should be possible to punish if you are very careful about the timing.

Edit: I’ve actually been looking at Yun a somewhat different way. I’m taking note of all the things that Yun has that are very strong, and I look at ways in which Juri can do similar things with her own abilities. For example, I see Daigo gaining huge advantages in matches because of his ability to build meter fast and manage it effectively. I look back at Juri and see her Fuhajin store, which builds meter at approximately the same speed on whiff, and you actually get some more control over it because of the faster animation. Another cool thing Yun has is the dreaded EX Zesshou Hohou, which is +1 on block and helps him get in on opponents fairly easily. Juri can also do something like this with LK Fuhajin FADC, which is at least +5 if blocked and is actually even harder to punish.

generally speaking, is it at any all possible that the twins would be less stupid for juri when ppl learn the matchup more in this game?
fyi , yun was alot scarier in 3rd strike and ppl will find out how dumb he really is when third strike online addition comes out lol ( 3 geni jin in 1 round)

her wake up game is not solid lol. it’s about as mediocre as dudley’s wake up and he have a dp.

possibly. but you have to take into account that the game has been out for nearly 7 months in japan and yun is still running shit there. i think ppl in japan know the match up well, it’s just that the twins and fei are better than most of the cast.
