Saw it the other day. I thought it was OK. It felt like I was watching the first movie again with less tension. A lot of nostalgia hooks that they just tried to beat senseless into those that saw the original. I will say that the last battle was something impressive.
Saw It.
Not bad at all.
The kids were super annoying though, too the point where I was hoping they would get crushed or eaten, but became bearable at the end. I actually liked Chris Pratt’s character in the movie, and it seemed to have a good flow into it. Overall not a bad movie, and definitely not on par to JP1, I can’t say if it was better then JP2, however it was vastly superior to the garbage that was JP3.
With that said, some of my gripes and enjoyments…
[details=Spoiler]My concerns from earlier were warranted once again, because as I’ve stated earlier in this thread or another, that having a “Super Terminator” Genetic Dinosaur would ultimately deprive the importance of the real dinosaurs. I’m not saying that the Indominus Rex wasn’t well done, in fact I believe it was too well done, that in the next JP movie are you going to go as they said “Bigger, Better, Scarier?” So are we going to see smaller Raptor size Indominus Rexes as they may have hinted at? If so…gah. Because at that point, their would really will be no need to have the title “Jurassic” anymore.
I actually believed that I would’ve hated the entire angle of training the Raptors, however it turned out a lot better then I had anticipated (because my expectations were so low it had nowhere to go but up) to the point that I was actually rooting for the Raptors. However the fact that I saw the Indominus Rex and the Raptors literally “talking” to each other had me rolling my eyes over to be honest because it just didn’t feel like dinosaurs anymore (speaking about the raptors).
Another gripe was my most anticipated Dinosaur…The Tyrannosaurus Rex. Being someone whose knowledge of dinosaurs is beyond that of an average individual, it was once again frustrating to see the T-Rex get the first bite on another dinosaur (I-Rex in this movie) and for it to not have any significant effects. That’s basically 13,000 pounds of bite force crushing on that Indominus Rexes neck and with jaws that powerful it would’ve locked down, crushed and killed the hybrid right then and there. So you’re to tell me that a bite force equivalent to a full grown African Bull Elephant was incapable of not doing any severe damage to the I-Rex? I mean, come on.
Instead you allow it to push and shrug off the bite, much like what the Spinosaurus did in JP3, which still to this day was an absolute absurdity considering a vastly weaker jawed Spinosaurus was capable of breaking a Rexes neck, but the Rex was incapable of doing so.
So okay, you want to make it dramatic for movie drama sake, but couldn’t you at least not let Rex have the first bite, because it just downplays the power of those jaws, which is still the most powerful we know for a land predator to date. I even bypassed the fact that the I-Rex was made to be the more dominant of the two because storyline wise it makes sense, no NOT because it was a hybrid, that isn’t the advantage at all. The real advantage is that the T-Rex we see in Jurassic World is actually the Original one from the JP1 movie.
So by the time we see her in JW she is at the very least…25 years old, which by T-Rex age standards is an Old, Old Lady considering the oldest real specimen is Sue and she died at the ripe old age of 29 years old only! So when you consider that most Rexes in real-life die around 25-30 years old, she’s definitely dusty by now (I remember reading somewhere that people who made the movie said that since the T-Rex was old now, that her skin was tighter to her body making her thinner and was no longer as “beefy” per say as she once was in the original JP1 where she was at her prime. Now if we could’ve gotten the T-Rex to fight I-Rex at their peaks, now THAT would’ve been an Amazing Fight).
So with the above statements the I-Rex being the younger dinosaur should’ve had the advantage. It was also nice to see Rexy and Blue (Raptor) working together to take down I-Rex, especially enjoyed seeing Rexy throw I-Rex around and onto the ground like a rag doll.
However the whole Mosasaur thing was done waay too much by this point and made all too predictable. I really felt that Rexy should’ve had the honors to slay the I-Rex at the end, then standing over the dead corpse it would’ve gave a victorious roar, kind of like the original JP1 where Rexy was roaring with the sign “When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth” came fluttering down, which is still the most epic shot in the JP series imo.
That would’ve made for a far more climatic ending to the fight then what we were given, and their may be more but at the moment I just can’t think of anything else atm, and may post more later if I can recollect anything else.
Once again, my concerns are, from here on out, where do you go? Do you use yet…another genetically altered Dinosaur, or do you actually use a real Dinosaur as the new “villain” in the next movie? We’ll see, but thus far, I would like to see Chris Pratt make a return, since his character was very enjoyable. Lastly, I was very happy to see that the original T-Rex didn’t die because I would seriously walked out of the theater had that happened, and to let it have the last scene was the right notion to end the movie.[/details]
^-- Agreed with all that, with the important point that Bryce Dallas Howard should stop being in movies. She seems to have zero emotional range and it’s really annoying to watch.
I think in the next movie they’ll try to focus more on the military application angle. There’s still an Indominus Rex carcass ripe for the DNA harvest along with evil Asian scientist’s research.
Considering most dinosaurs had brains a little bigger than a walnut, I’m sure there is a lot of technological ways to manipulate or “hack” them into being perfect(ier?) killing machines.
Oh and something else to note. Making I-Rex part raptor was a smart decision. Here’s a social animal denied interaction, essentially never gaining basic social and emotional awareness. This social denial is basically what creates sociopathic serial killers in humans.
Oh and the axolotl in the research lab hinted that it might’ve had regenerative abilities.
The movie is “ok”. It isn’t bad, it isn’t great. The characters were a lot flatter compared to the first JP. The main issues of the story weren’t as well talked about as in JP 1.
It was hilariously ironic that they park needed a new dinosaur to sell tickets while a lot of the promos advertised the new dinosaur to sell tickets. I appreciate that.
The only characters I hated were the kids. Then again most kids in JP movies are bad anyway.
A lot of the characters were just not good or at least very divisive. I liked the main girl character once she started doing smart things, Chris Pratt’s character was kind of not even a character, just a story device, the kids were annoying but the younger one did one really smart thing.
Best part of the movie was when it became a kaiju/godzilla battle. That was freaking amazing, made me want a silent movie set in dino ages. Or not silent rather, but just no dialog, so like all the characters would be dinosaurs. No narration or humans at all lol
Any body else feel like the commentary was shoe horned as opposed to earnest like in the first one? I still dont know why the Chris Pratt character gave two shits about anything; much less why he was the one qualified to train velociraptors.
So I went to see this awesome movie yesterday. This is basically my opinion of it

Starwars: TFA will probably take over this spot in Decemeber.
As hot as the red head was, I still couldnt believe someone like her could run that park in real life. I mean she was a complete ditz.
It’s the unique emphasis on humanizing the non-human cast of the film that sets this film apart. I cared more about the Raptor squad than the kids.
I think the most useless character was the park owner. Seriously, why was he even there? He left no impact when he was alive and less of one when he died.
The kids weren’t THAT annoying. The kids in JP1 were hundreds of times more grating, especially that freaking girl!
Vincent D’Onofrio was pretty pointless as well. “Muwahaha! I’m the evil corporate military mercenary guy! I’m going to turn dinosaurs into soldiers because I can relate to them. Time for my stupid ironic death scene. The end.”
Nah park owner lead i-rex breaking into pterodactyl cage
Why
Had that been the central theme, it might’ve worked out. Unfortunately it wasn’t. Very few of the cast were actual people; they mostly were there to parrot some theme in a heavy handed way. Had Chris Pratt character been given more screen time where interacted with other dinosaurs then maybe.
heart goes out to the guy in the control room made the typical speech of someone has to stay behind.
then he goes for the kiss on the co-worker and gets denied.
Simon Masrani was pretty based dude. Did a better job than John Hammond honestly.
Watched this yesterday. It was good, I did enjoy, but I had my gripes. The kids were a tad bit annoying. Every character almost seemed stereotypical. The neglectful mom/dad/aunt, the emo kids (i HATED the older kids face, i just did), the evil military guys, the rich fool (seriously when he was like “yeah I will pilot this military chopper” i fucking facepalmed in real life). Rich dude literally existed just to fuck shit up, so dumb people would be like “yeah fuck that brown rich asshole!”.
You can’t count the number of times I saw do somebody in the movie do something stupid/ignorant and I said to my buddy “oh that guy is soooo getting eaten by that dinosaur, later on”.
The story seemed a little all over. The kids being THAT fucking dumb to ignore like every got damn rule, was a little bit of a stretch. Having vehicles you can control around dinosaurs (instead of self driven, or tracks) in a park of that price, also seemed like a dumb move. Especially when they are seemingly easily able to just fuck off with them.
Wish they had spent a bit more time at the OG park. Was it confirmed the Rex in this movie is the same one from the first?
Why the fuck was that bitch allowed to go through the jungle in bright white? Yeah, that won’t attract dinosaurs whatsoever.
lol it’s at the bottom of a lake with a giant monster that probably ate every last part of the I Rex, including the bones. It’s Mosasaur shit now.
But yeah, they still have all the data and shit, and I remember years ago reading scripts about them cyberizing raptors for military applications and shit.
Speaking of which, i was kinda let down by Pratt’s character. I went in expecting he had been training raptors for like years, and they already trusted him, instead of “oh I feed them mice as they snarl and kinda follow me while i have food”. He had some good comments every so often, and the gas idea was cool (sweet jesus, I saw the size of that fat fuck and knew he was getting eaten with the quickness…multi-million dollar military asset one of a kind dinosaur and it’s guarded by one fat slob with a hardhat), so I can give him a pass. The relationship seemed kinda forced, but whatever. I was also kinda sad that only one raptor made it out lol.
I enjoyed the end battle though.
British bitch got GOT. Probably one of my favourite movie deaths, ever. I would have loved a shot of her inside, still alive, realizing she just got eaten alive by a garage with teeth.
Yeah that death was actually quite horrific. The water torture part had me feeling sorry for her, meanwhile I don’t bat an eye at people getting ripped to shreds by raptors.
