saw it yesterday with some friends… We all kinda left like… That was it? Pretty meh. Surprised by the good reviews. I like Jurassic park stuff to, but this was pretty generic. Just felt all really cliche, nothing exciting.
I will say I was worried that the movie was gonna be awesome but super cheesy and corny. But instead the only real cheesy and corny thing for me that was over the top was the ending. Just stupid. But all that before that, while watching it I accepted it. The whole training raptors thing wasnt silly like I thought, and I enjoyed it for what it was. It just over all wasnt a very interesting movie. Just ok for me. Better than 3 and 2(I guess…)but to compare it to the first one would be a complete joke.
Just watched it. It was an awesome movie. Made me feel like a kid again.
It’s not going to win an oscar or anything but it gives you the same vibe and feeling as when you watched the 1st jurassic park.
If you go into this expecting a Jurassic Park movie and nothing more, nothing less and just enjoy the fact that hey there are dinosaurs, you’ll probably love it like I did.
Spoiler
I like the throwback to the jeep and gear from the first jurassic park.
Love the moment near the end when they opened the gate and she lit the red flare, everyone knew what was up.
Just came back from watching it. A good movie, it follows the other movies very well and any fan of the other movies will get a kick out of it. The ending… hurts the movie the most.
Spoiler
I thought it was a fucked up that even though security was a very important aspect of the park, NOBODY was told about what the I-Rex was designed from and possibly capable of. It is like allowing people to adopt a dog infected with rabies.
This is also a very commercial movie, a lot of logos get shoved into your face. It is not surprising, but it happens often.
Move was decent. Not on the same level as the original, but I’d put it on par with the sequels (at least better than 3).
The whole thing with the GMO dino seemed to be a jab at today’s “upgrade culture”, where everyone needs to have the next big thing that’s bigger, badder, scarier, has more teeth, etc. There are a couple of brilliant lines towards this, especially the one where Wu talks about why the dinosaurs aren’t “realistic” (i.e. don’t have feathers) and points out that, that isn’t what the people want/are expecting.
My only issues were that they didn’t seem to spend enough time building on the conspiracy between…

Hoskin’s and Wu. I mean, you knew that they had something going on, but to me it felt like they only started building on it near the middle and towards the end of the film.
The other thing that was missing was the sense of isolation that the earlier movies had. The whole power outage in and the fact that there was no park at all in 2 and 3. This was something that they kinda missed here.
That said, the whole thing with the Indominus felt like something out of a Godzilla movie, especially the older ones where the big G was the main threat that everyone was trying to stop.
I really should. I was hesitant after I some dude at the local AMC told us that 3D/IMAX made Mad Max look like shit. JW DID give me a new waifu though:
It was a worthwhile watch. Chris Pratt made for a convincing everyman and the action was good. The raptor training was cool and I like how hard they worked to maintain trust. (Hooray for the African trainer dude not getting fodderized!)
I was very annoyed with Bryce Dallas Howard’s character and her stubbornness constantly put people in danger. I was amazed that they kept her in heels for the entire movie especially the running from a t-rex scene lol.
The military espionage angle was good and I do feel this would happen in real life. I liked the scene where the evil Asian scientist (turtlenecks = evil) was explaining why raptors were gene spliced to look “cool” and featherless instead of realistic. His view represented the overall commercialism of the modern age.
This is probably the first movie in a long while where the little kid was actually likeable character. He was kind, intelligent, inquisitive and honest. I think he made for nice example for the younger viewers to resonate with.
The most depressing part of the movie was how many kids in that world were so “meh” towards dinosaurs. It was believable though.
The best scene to me was when the raptors were hunting down the I-Rex. Loved that whole sequence.
Anyone else get feels when the theme song started to play when the kids were on the train leading to the park? Also all the homages to JP1 (Spitter hologram made me lol). Movie was awesome.
what no way. THe first movie was a adventure and there was actual dialogue and the book was great to. This movie was pretty generic. Im surprised by how many people seem to like it here, people I saw it with, and most people I talked to on facebook thought it was meh~ at best. This movie was not an adventure in any way. Just sorta like a movie of the week thing to me. A very… very expensive movie of the week. Personally I think of it more of just 2 hours to waste when you have nothing to do thats enjoyable, but I would never consider it a great movie like the first.
One thing they out A LOT of effort into was in recreating the feel of a theme park- something that’s very effective in creating a sense of awe in one time visitors, but appears much more cynical when the hands behind the scene and commercialism of the place become apparent. This made the Park’s decision to “create” Indominus Rex much more believable and much less of the B-grade movie premise it should’ve been.
I came out of the movie wishing Jurassic World was real and I could visit it.
