Current research shows that the arms were at least strong enough to help the Rex get back on its feet while it was lying down. They were basically T. Rex landing gear, nothing else. It’s also interesting to note that the whole family of Tyrranosaurids is grouped in the same branch of the theropod family tree as Raptors, the Compys from 2 and, more importantly, birds and not with the other big theropods like the Spinosaurus, which could help explain the smaller hands. Most members of that group, including raptors, had hands with two or three small elongated fingers and not the traditional looking clawed “hands”.
On a related note, here’s hoping they actually correct the whole Raptor thing since Velociraptors in real life were the size of turkeys. Even Crichton admitted that he actually meant for them to be Deinonychus and made a mistake since a book he had read had called Deinonychus a species of Velociraptor. For naming’s sake however, they should probably say that they’re Utahraptor, since those things were the biggest of the bunch.
The whole point of Jurassic Park is to watch the movie for Dinosaurs…not Mutated Gene Spliced Monsters. Even if their is some garbage scientific nonsense that they’ll try to throw in to emphasize this new Terminator Dino. The simple fact is that we’re going to watch it because we want to see a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a Triceratops, a Brachiosaurus…not a D-Rex that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual fossil record.
Once you go to something like this, then why bother producing more dinosaurs? How is the next “Antagonist” in the movie going to be anything but a Mutated Monster, because it’ll be portrayed as being “superior” to a normal dinosaur? Get my point? It’s a failed flaw that could’ve been remedied by simply introducing another Large Menacing Theropod.
Giganotosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus would’ve been perfectly viable New Carnivore dinosaurs that could’ve been made into the Antagonist if the T-Rex is going to be viewed as a Heroic Dinosaur, especially when you consider that both of those animals would’ve been able to rival the Rex in mass and size. Point being, making a Mutated Monster being more important then the actual Dinosaurs themselves defeats the purpose of it being called “Jurassic”.
I’m 100% against Genetically Altered Dinosaurs.
So I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree.
Some theories or hypothesis have stated that the T-Rex having developed such a heavily reinforced Skull (Compared to other giants like Giganotosaurus, Allosaurus, etc, it’s not even close when comparing a T-Rexes skull to other equal sized kins on whose was the most massive in terms of density and even width) “may have” been something that would’ve detracted the arms considering the mouth of the T-Rex was the main killing weapon. The Skull along with an s-shaped neck, which was also short in contrast to other giant theropods while supporting absolutely massive neck muscles for the skull, the arms may have been compensated so the animal wasn’t so front heavy. Remember that all of these are just theories and assumptions so not one or the either is 100% correct.
As D3v said, regardless of their size they were still incredibly strong with just the biceps on the arms being capable of lifting over 400 lbs each. However when you’re the T-Rex and you have a bite force over 6 tons or nearly 13,000 pounds you really don’t need such elongated arms. Even other large theropods like Giganotosaurus didn’t have incredibly long arms, although much longer then Rex but their main killing tool would’ve also been the mouth as well.
Hardly any of the dinosaurs are from the Jurassic period, in these movies…
99% of the public would rather see a dinosaur they know the name of…so that pretty much kills off all the “bigger than T-Rex” dino’s people keep listing. Carcharodontosaurus ain’t putting a single ass in a theatre seat. D-Rex is fine, seeing as people will be curious to see a super Dino, and it does fit the natural progression of the storyline. And it also will showcase the fact that humanity is just one discovery/experiment away from fucking shit up the asshole.
So in other words, fuck any sort of depth and thematic integrity. Let’s just go for the lowest common denominator since people in general are stupid, am I right?
I mean in reality, training raptors is pretty lol, but given the context within the JP universe, I can see it possible. In the JP universe, raptors are supposed to be extremely smart, so it’s not unbelievable that they could be trained. Or they’re programmed that way cus lol bioengineering.
Actually it’s already been confirmed that the Raptors aren’t domesticated/trained by the crew of the movie lol. It’s probably like people who live with bears, they simply tolerate Starlord.
Well seeing how there were only 2 books, lost world book was a million times better then lost world movie. They should have just added the chameleon dinosaur from the book. Even Trex was scared of it
It’s irrelevant if most of the dinosaurs aren’t from the Jurassic period, the selling point of this movie are dinosaurs, not mutated monsters.
So how many people of the general public “prior” to Jurassic Park III even knew about Spinosaurus? Oh wait…
Considering “if” the leaked picture is true, then they could’ve simply opted to use Giganotosaurus, which is practically what D-Rex looks like.
Because nothing can’t ever be renewed or made from old content but within a different atmosphere and perspective right? Because using Real Dinosaurs should be considered the “lowest” denominator now for a series that predicated itself upon them in the first place. Only shallow minds would assume such a thing as being stupid and it seems debates around here with some people can’t go anywhere without saying “fuck” to try and prove a point.
Once again, Agree to Disagree, since I have this itching feeling we don’t see eye to eye.
Your original point was that the D-Rex wasn’t Jurassic enough. So yeah, it was relevant. Also, it’s not mutated, it’s genetically enhanced…which is exactly what the original dinosaurs were, in JP1 (albeit to a lesser extent)
A lot more than people knew of Carcharodontosaurus. And Spinosaurus sucked and JP3 was a failure, so maybe introducing another unknown big bad carnivore isn’t such a good idea, princess.
Nobody gives a single fuck about Gigantosaurus. And they don’t want ‘practically’. They wanted a super predator that was capable of climbing 100 foot walls, running super fast, and whatever else D-Rex can do, that other dino’s can’t do.
So we’re going to do a SECOND “dino’s escape from their enclosures” movie? Yeah, brilliant idea, genius.
You’re complaining like a little old lady, bitch. Grow a nutsack and learn to be a man.
They are using real dinosaurs. They just decided to splice it up with a never before seen dinosaur, because THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT A HUGE BIOTECH COMPANY WOULD PROBABLY FUCKING DO. And it gives them tons of creative liberty, as well.
That’s because you’re a dummy. Don’t ever make movies. Nobody will see them, and they will hate you.
Not too argue but well, these guys have fucked up quite a bit now lol, like 30 people on screen have already been eaten, fuck knows what the total death tally is cause of these mad scientists. Like recreating history is one thing but practically inventing new bio weapons for no good reason has gotta be against some kinda international law or something lol.
Whats wrong with a movie about a pissed of triceratops or some shit? I dont really dig the whole create a monster thing, its not gonna be any more cool than a normal dinosaur on the rampage, hell I still feel sorry for the goat in the first movie, they made T Rex bad ass as hell in that one. Nobody got that feeling they just trying to Bay out dinosaurs for the sake of it?
“Bay-ing out” dinosaurs just for the heck of it would be the case if they didn’t keep the whole “misuse of scientific power” theme from the original JP.
"BAYing OUT?? Oh god, are these lab dinos going to cause explosions with their farts while continous 360 camera shots make the audience sick while Aerosmith blasts in the background?
Are the raptors going to evolve into Jive talking stereotypes?
Well this is not a jurassic park game, it might as well be. You can play as dinosaurs or humans and try to kill each other. I much rather play as the dinosaurs and kill people
