Julia Partner Thread

Played with Julia and Akuma a few times. Very fun team.

This is the team im going to experiment on today to see what i can do with them if its a solid team them im sticking to it.

Looking for someone to pair someone with Zangief and was looking at Julia. Anyone know which order I should run them and any synergy they have?

Both Julia and Gief are versatile, and can be either points or anchors. The reasons for this are that both Julia and Gief have relatively little trouble landing a cross rush into their partners, and both also have very high damage combos off a tag-in.

I would say that Julia is slightly better in a point role in a Julia x Gief team because Gief has better uses for his meter, so Julia can be used to battery for Gief. Gief has great EX command throws, an incredible super, and sometimes needs his EX green hand against projectile users. Julia, on the other hand, has relatively little to do with meter beyond a great super. Her incredible back dash also means that in a lot of situations you can backdash three times and raw tag and avoid a big punish. That, combined with the fact that she might be the easiest character to start a cross rush with (courtesy of her godlike cr. LK) means that you should rarely need to use bar to tag cancel out with Julia.

I’m actually rethinking my team order now that I’ve picked Julia back up (for a third team, but if it works out it could move up the list…). I used to play Juri/Julia, but I’m thinking I should switch that around. The problem there is that if I do, Juri will end up with a ton of meter she has no real use for.

That said, the benefit of having Julia in front seems to be damage, plus so many ways to get Juri in (either with or without meter), and using meter for PC shenanigans once I get that down. Oh, and of course, even more than anything else, that gawdlike cr.lk and her footsies in general - she can get her job done (get the life lead), get Juri in and then Juri can either pressure or zone, and control the ground with fb stores and overheads until they inevitably make a bad decision (ie., jump).

Thoughts?

Its a solid team. I played that team pre juri patch and it was working well enough to win. The problem with that team is getting rushed down cause Julias dp is slow and can get grabbed out of start up. Juri has the same problem unless you spend 2 meters to ex pin wheel and tag, Juri’s alpha counter is not reliable as well. But the team is solid nonetheless.
Team order should be Julia x Juri since Julia has an easier time getting the first hit with cr lk magic series hit confirm. From here you have OPTIONS

  1. If you’ve taken minimal damage Relaunch with Juri with cr lp > st lp > launcher. This is extra juicy with gem activations on “Partner connects with #n Luanchers” stipulation
  2. do a combo of your choice into lvl 2 with Juri (yes i know it was nerfed post patch)

If you have Juri upfront your fishing for a random hit with a dive kick or cr mk hit confirm which has OK range. Basically your chances aren’t as good as they are with Julia. Theres really nothing Juri can do better than Julia, i mean you can argue Juri’s gdlk cr fp as an anti air but julia has a DP and cr fp as well. In conclusion I think Juri is best as a supporting character to Julia and should tag julia back in if Julia has a healthy life since her rush down is better. You should only be zoning with Juri if you have the life lead or your temporarily running down the clock to restore Julia’s life.

Sound advice. I need to learn more about Juri in general. Does her counter work as a reversal wake up option?

It does, just have to be careful not to get baited.

<---- often gets baited

As an aside, I put some more time into Cammy x Julia again and um… damn, I’m really enjoying this team. Has more synergy than I thought. Cammy actually does make a decent battery for Julia, and both have good pokes and of course Julia’s ridiculous cr.lk into everything…

I did find I had trouble against a Gief/Sim team tonight though, not sure if that’s just me not playing the matchup properly (likely) or Sim and Gief being frustrating matchups in general (unlikely).

I’ve got some experience in the Julia vs. Gief matchup, and basically you just need to zone with your normals as much as possible. There’s no great way Julia has of approaching Gief that isn’t a gimmick (like Wind Roll into Tequila Sunrise or whatever). Don’t try jumping in or crossing up, as you will almost always get Lariated. Don’t try lunge punching as Giefs are always buffering st. LK x st. MP. Just keep your distance and use cr. LK x cr. MK to poke, and cr. HP to anti-air. It’s a laborious matchup, but it can be done.

You’re pretty much screwed if Gief has the life lead though, as there’s literally no way to get in on a downbacking Gief with Julia.

That’s pretty much what happened, Gief got the life lead and I just could not get in. Gief/Sim is an incredibly annoying team, feels like unless I establish that life lead early there’s nothing I could do.

That said, it was honestly a matter of me being impatient too, as in one of the rematches I believe I played my main team (Camy/Juri) and still did horribly lol.

Preciate the advice, as I’m hoping to improve my Jules from here on out.

Kinda come to realize that Lars and Julia dont have great synergy together…Lars doesnt add much damage to Julia off tag cancels and julia also doesnt get much off lars unless you combo cr.mp > cr.hp xx SE: Rising Storm > stuff xx SE: Rising Storm > tag. Its not really practical because you essentially have to hit confirm off of a single cr.mp. If he does his standard Mjolnir BnB, she can tag in from Mjolnir ~ L Lightning Screw > tag, but I dont think the damage she brings is worth it. On top of this, Lars doesnt bring much in terms of covering Julia’s weaknesses.

Just some thoughts. Still soul searching for a partner for her.

Anyone play Alisa X Julia ? Any comments? I feel like Alisa’s combos would kinda make tagging into Julia a little pointless since the hit counter will be so high from Alisa…she does a shit ton of hits. Also, Ive been told she doesnt build good meter…that being said, she has good zoning and does good damage. I just dont know if they would have good synergy together. I guess ill test her out tomorrow and get a feel for her.

In 2012 I played Julia X Ogre, but sometimes also Julia X Alisa. She does add something to Julia’s game plan: a zoning game. Although I personally don’t consider Alisa a true zoner, since she can get in quickly with cr.hp, keep up the pressure with her DES moves and inflict some serious damage (even a hit confirm starting with a j.mk and two cr.lp’s can net you over 300 damage without meter). According to how you play her (with or without a lot of DES pressure), she might not build that much meter, but in 2013 she doesn’t need it that much anymore, due to DES cr.mp now being easier to link into. Tagging off Alisa might indeed be a little futile, unless you tag early or alter your combo’s (remember that she has a DP that lofts your opponent really high. As a matter of fact: st.hp CADC, hp dp, tag to Julia is a very damaging punish combo). I’ll probably be going with Alisa x Ogre from now on, but if you ask me, Alisa x Julia should still be a very strong combination.

anyone have any input regarding Kaz / Julia synergy?

Julia has a nifty standing reset with swift step explosion > jump forward MK as late as possible, even after this patch that got rid of most standing resets. From here she can hold back to cross under or stand still - it’s really fast so it’s basically a true 50/50. The only problem is that it sacrifices a ton of damage off of SSE as a starter, so the most optimal use is after landing it mid combo. Hence why I’m posting here.

So far I think the best team to utilize this reset is Chun Li/Julia. Chun is a very solid character on her own and can build a ton of meter for Julia, plus she can set up an SSE reset by comboing high/low into cr.FP > HK spinning bird kick. I still want to experiment with Pandora synergy but it seems pretty fucking awesome so far. Chun Li can JC pandora off a lot of stuff, or she can EX kikoken > Pandora and Julia can combo Super Art.

I think the logic is that after a SSE, when the opponent drops to their knees, they’re considered airborne and not in a juggle state (I think). Hence, your late j.mk cross up is probably forcing them into a standing flip.

It sounds like a good trick if you get SSE after say a tag cancel as you describe. Could be use with Chun’s SBK, Ken’s Tatsu, Maybe Law’s spin kicks (or FFR), any thing that keeps the opponent in place for SSE to hit after the last hit of whatever move you’re using.

As far as Pandora stuff goes, I’ll admit it’s gotten better, but I’m personally avoiding it as I don’t like to take gambles like that if I can help it. Maybe someday, I’ll brave the concept of Pandora but for now, it’s not for me.

So what are your guys’ thoughts on Julia/Akuma? Been playing this team since day 1, I’ve also teamed her w/ chun and dudley but I’m really like pairing her w/ Akuma. Akuma sitting on meter is always nice, and like it was said earlier Julia w/o meter isn’t bad.

Sooooooo many months later and I’m back to playing these three (plus Marduk) exclusively lol.

I can see this team getting ridiculous damage off of any touch in neutral. Kind of a scary thing to deal with. O__O
