Yeah i agree that tokido fucked up alot more than usual, especially that failed hk combo at the end.
also those missed tatsu > sweeps, sometimes he did c.mk instead. Was that a plink gone bad?

That win is 100% legit. He didn’t gimmick Tokido out, he simply won a tight match.
The Super is legit but the Ultra was a mistake by Tokido. Tokido also demoned JR’s teleport and Perfected him in 2nd round of 1st match. Good shiet overall.
That was the impression I got. Missed Sweeps after tatsu including a missed Plink after tatsu. Things like poor fireball spacing and other assorted mistakes from Tokido. Now JR did exactly what he was suppose to do and make him pay for screwing up. So nothing taken away from JR. He did his job and Tokido didn’t. You can’t blame JR for Tokido’s problems.
you guys really feel jr outplayed tokido? when i watch this i feel just the opposite. i dont know who is better tokido or infiltration, but jr isnt really in there with those two. i mean jr is risking the entire match on one move… if he misses he loses, if he lands it he might win. obviously he isnt even trying to outplay tokido if he does this.
match 1: round 1 jr does well. round 2 perfect for tokido. round 3 is pretty even the super that jr does is after he whiffs a jumping hp. i guess you could call that an educated guess?
match 2: tokido dominates the whole time. jr does a desperate ultra at the end of round 1.
match 3: round1: he is getting beat up pretty bad; lands an ultra off a wakeup jump? seemed pretty deperate to me.
round2: tokido does an ultra after teleport - this is the only ultra or all the matches that isnt what most would consider random or desperate. jr does another random ultra at the end of the round tokido misses the punish and loses.
so, jr doesnt land 90% of his ultras/supers he lands 50%. i would say that is pretty random…more like a coin flip.
Well we can say that IF tokido didnt fuck up his combos or did a df sweep into that demon, he probably would’ve won.
jr definitely outplayed tokido. tokido looked unfamiliar with the matchup. jr even had the perfect punish for tokidos rh whiffing.
first of all a perfect isn’t that uncommon in akuma mirrors… akuma mirrors are pretty ridiculous sometimes. you also have to keep in mind how often tokido whiffs that sweep after LK tatsu - not having that damage and that crucial time + spacing to set up further pressure really prevented tokido from maximizing his advantage. JR’s second connected demon (the ultra demon in game 3 round 1) was a guess, you’re right, but it was after tokido stunned him, failed the combo ender, and went for a DF mixup, so it was a guess that tokido was going to go for a DF throw, which easily could have been his only window to make said guess to turn it around. tokido had to have fucked up on his input though and gotten the DF slide, which is extremely punishable - a DF kick would have beaten JR most likely, but again tokido fucked that one up. im guessing he wanted the DF throw though which would have lost to the ultra anyway. after that JR makes a brilliant read on the tele and lands an extremely heavy combo, which is enough to maintain enough control to win the round. and then tokido throwing his chances away in the last round with the random SRK, so that seals the deal.
seriously though, if you don’t understand just how blindingly fast akuma mirrors can fly by, then something tells me you’ve never actually sat down with an akuma who is around your caliber (if you actually are an akuma player i dont know) and had a solid series of matches. you could easily do a FT10 with an equally skilled akuma and have ridiculous matches the entire time or matches that are literally ended after only two reads.
EDIT: also did you see all of JR’s crHP’s against tokido’s random demon flips? JR knew when tokido was getting over eager and punished him for it basically every time.
I’m guessing all this hate comes from J.R’s youtube videos where he plays people that always fall for the same demon flip resets/mix-ups and jump over Ultra Demon setups. I agree that those matches are incredibly boring which is why I don’t bother watching any of his matches unless he’s up against top level players where he plays a much better, solid game and is less adamant on throwing out unsafe demon flips and demons which is why he consistently places well at each EVO.
Woulda coulda shoulda, he didn’t so at this point it is moot. I do agree we might have seen a slightly different outcome had he not botched all those, but still he made those mistakes and as a result got punished for them. That is part of the game.
If you are not playing your A game against a good player then you are going to get beat. I don’t think he landed a single sweep after Tatsu which really hurt him.
JR had nice cr.hp
Tokido doesn’t contest jumpins too much.
That is really Tokido’s weakness. He is a smart player but he allows his opponents too many free jump ins. He needs to talk to Daigo about punishing those jumps.
I’m gonna be honest, when I heard JR beat Tokido, I figured he beat him with some gimmick bullshit. But after watching the videos, I see that was definitely not the case. Tokido made more mistakes and JR capitalized on them. That demon flip to catch Tokido’s tele was a great read. I’ll admit, I’m not a very big fan of JR, but I have to give him his due props for this match.
People can say what they want, but if you watch that match you’d see JR was on point and Tokido was slipping up. Ok ya, empty jump into Super? Kinda gimmicky. But that doesnt take away from JR reading Tokido and punishing him left and right
Woulda, coulda, shoulda, but didn’t.
Yeah but its unusual to see tokido fuck up that much
JR outplayed him.
tokido isnt the best gouki in japan anyways…
After seeing the video, I’m utterly shocked on how sloppy Tokido played. He missed a ton of cr. HK after light tatsu BnBs. Still doesn’t take away from the fact the JR won. He was intimidated at all, and punished Tokido for his sloppy play. Props to him.
Tokido was complaining that there was a delay on the Alienware monitors, up to 3 frames.
LOL JR is not capable of outplaying Tokido.
When I watched that match I saw Tokido using all of Akuma’s tools and making some pretty bad mistakes. JR just sat back and did barely anything. He still can’t do his main’s combos properly (far roundhouse to light SRK SO GODLIKE) and he landed a couple gimmicky demon setups to win. The big game changer ultra demon just punished a mistake by Tokido, again. If Tokido hadn’t missed so much stuff, the match would have been very lopsided in Tokido’s favor, so like Rico Suave I’m assuming that JR has a lucky horseshoe way up his ass.
When Japan talks about the US’s level of play being low, guys like JR are exactly who they are talking about. It reflects poorly on everyone when Homo Genius players like him can make it out of pools.
Yea I never understood why he doesnt go for a cr.mp, cr.lk, etc after landing a roudhouse o.0
