learn to read,i never said that jr was using parlour tactics, just got lucky.i even went on to say that i dont know how an ft5 against tokido would pan out since i havent been following him up until now.
what you implied that i said about jr’s akuma was actually directed on floe’s rufus.
Funny thing is Ryan Hart thought similar at EVO 2k8 in 3s. He lost to JR in semis play and thought JR would never beat him in a FT5 MM. Guess what? JR beat him.
soooo…Surprising that JR beat tokido but not impossible. Random is a very scary opponent, almost impossible to read and tack on JR’s execution and setups and that’s a foe that can win alot of matches.
I went 5wins in winners 1 in losers for a 6-2 record (top 50 or something) I used akuma twice. I lost to Ricky Ortiz by 5% and got BODIED by Joon (beast ken).
I did well in MMs I was hoping to find akuma/cammy forum people but just forgot and got drunk as hell. I mm’d half of Canada and found out that a dude named JS Masters is a buff rog, otherwise won the rest.
Whether anyone cares to read this I don’t know, but here I go:
About JR? I don’t see where the hate is coming from. I don’t think there is such a thing as random in high-level play, and I personally think that SFIV can be very random sometimes. All I see is that he’s a player who takes risks and knows when to capitalize on his demons. Yes, his ultras have saved him many times but we shouldn’t use that against him. I’m a person who thinks having “revenge ultras” is a HORRIBLE concept, but that’s not the point. What I see in JR’s play is someone who is constantly throwing that flip out, and even though I’m a terrible IV player I’d be readying my SRK against him 24/7. He is a good player and a very offensive one. Some have said that he’s always doing the same shit, but then I wonder why they aren’t countering him if he’s so predictable? I can’t hate on a guy who beat Tokido, he’s a very good Akuma player. I don’t have the credentials (I’m an ST’er) to comment on how deep his skill is but I have tons of Street Fighter experience to know when a player is at least good.
If there is one thing I’d dislike about JR its that he seems very cocky. I’ve seen him taunt players to hell but I’m biased because that’s not my personal style of play.
Yeah ok, I wasn’t even competitive at 3s, wasn’t even a member of SRK back in '04 when I first played 3S at the machine at the Gemspa corner store on St. Mark’s Pl. in NYC, and I knew that I was getting hit with a “JR special.”
Momochi/Tokido are the players I watch the most now, but come on. Respect one of the best Akumas in the game.
Our EVO qualifiers ran quite nicely, though we had a lot of setups to field the 100+ entrants and obviously a LOT less players. I can’t imagine having to wait so long - it would definitely be a pain in the nuts.
The footage we saw of the EVO crowd was insane. Would you guys be able to hazard a guess as to how many setups each bracket had? How did things actually run on the floor? Naturally the stream largely focused on one (or perhaps two?) of the setups used for finals and so on though I’m curious as to what you guys had to use to claw your way through the ranks.
Bokkin, saw your stream too. I was like, ‘Hey, a srk member at evo.’ Looked like a tough fight for you but it was good nevertheless. Too bad there were no streams of ‘shin’ as I watch and pick up tips from your vids.
As for JR, it’s not that he isn’t good etc. In general we expect a bit more versus demons all day is all. Akuma is just more than demons.
I think (think) Tokido doesn’t DP the jump-ins too much. Or at least not for insta-dive chars like rufus or Cammy; which I believe contributes much to their strength.
In order for the Cammy matchup to be even you must learn to react to the dive/jump with a DP. The reason many find the matchup tough is because Cammy negates Akuma’s standard anti-air - the crouch fierce. Most Akuma players don’t specialize in DPing jumps like Ryu players do, even though Akuma has a better DP.
I don’t really compete in the Toronto scene but JS is known to be the best in the area. He came second at last year’s T tournament. He lost to Arturo’s Seth in the grand finals.
If anyone was in the 3S scene you would know you don’t get good at 3S unless you understand footsies. JR knows fundamentals, and the only reason he lands so many “random” demons is because he understand footies quite well. He applies loads of pressure on the opponent and then waits till they panic and they press a button and whips out a demon. It’s different play style for sure. Some might see as random, because it’s not tactically precise. but it’s not random really. he’s definitely making guesses, but they’re well calculated guesses.
It’s pretty random, you’re just dressing up the word by calling it a calculated guess. If you’ve ever played with JR you’d know it’s not like he empty jumps behind you to test if you throw or crouch tech first, he’ll throw that shit out whenever no matter who you are.
